You should just let it eat a piece of lettuce (anything but iceberg). They prefer it much better and you can train to feed it holding the lettuce with your hand :). Soon the turtle/tortoise will like you and eat off your hand.

      This is just an FYI. I have a tortoise and it was surprising to me that they cannot eat any sort of protien, even though some vets recommend it (they don't know what they're doing).
