- edebolt, on 10/24/2008, -0/+16well Monkey meat and particularly live monkey brains are superb but lets not forget about the succulent recipes of Long Pork that have been served on some sea voyages on the high seas. Bon Appetite.
"Long Pork"
The term comes from Caribbean Islanders, (who often did not recognize their enemies as human, and were usually in need of extra protein) then later applied by ship captains to early colonists to the New World. The growing season along the New England coast is different than that of Europe, the soil also requiring extensive tilling and the use of worms to be made as fertile as what the colonists left behind. Most early colonists only had enough food to last them for a few months, and were expected to grow crops and raise livestock immediately upon arrival. This was almost never the case, and more often then not, along with sickness, the colonists faced starvation. When the ships that placed them returned in a year or two, instead of the thriving homestead the investors that funded the trip had hoped for, they usually found a tenth of the original number, lean but not starving, and crazed by the deprivations they had faced. No fields were planted, and it was obvious that they had resorted to cannibalism for sustenance. Feeling pity for the colonists, most captains would say that the colonists had resorted to eating long pork, as a code that other captains would understand, but people back home would not. At the time, any cannibalism was considered a crime, even to save your own life, and those that broke that law faced excommunication from the church, exile or even death.
The term long pork is used among most cannibals throughout history because, unless you are a modern forensic pathologist, the only way to distinguish pork from human flesh is the longer muscle tissue in the limbs of a human. In all other respects, the texture, color, feel and taste of the flesh is the same (watch the movie Fried Green Tomatoes). Thus long pork.
I love telling this to people who assume that people, like every other exotic meat, tastes like chicken. It does not. It tastes like pork. - WhiskeyLemur, on 06/30/2009, -0/+16You win.

- zigspective, on 10/24/2008, -0/+13???
This article is pointless. We've known that bonobos and chimps eat monkeys for a very long time now. - zip000, on 10/24/2008, -0/+12I think you know a little too much about cannibalism.
Maybe branch out a little is all I'm saying - Haoie, on 10/24/2008, -1/+10Bushmeat isn't uncommon in many isolated parts of the world.
And yet, it's sort of disturbing. - nathanskinner89, on 10/24/2008, -0/+8There's no wrong way to eat a rhesus
- Diggopolis, on 10/23/2008, -0/+8Thank God for Amy... she saved me the embarrassment of having to do that! ;)

- Samurai77, on 10/24/2008, -1/+8You so win!
- Dathadorne, on 10/24/2008, -0/+7Does everybody understand that Humans are as closely related to monkeys as Bonobos are? It's not cannibalism at all...That would be like saying that when humans eat monkey meat, it's cannibalism. Both Humans and Bonobos are apes, branched off from old-world monkeys about 25 million years ago.
- Dogtanian, on 10/24/2008, -1/+7God damn.
- g33b33, on 10/24/2008, -0/+6have an action verb for dessert.
- Harabeck, on 10/24/2008, -1/+7Sounds more like a war than a hunt to me, especially if its so rare. Bonobos have been shown to be highly intelligent, learning a basiec language, being taught to start fires with lighters, make knives with fling knapping etc. Whos to say they wont declare little monkey wars too?

- ceredron, on 10/24/2008, -2/+6I think you actually mean Babies: the other other white meat
/disregard article except title - asnider, on 10/24/2008, -0/+4I'm not sure why this shows us something we'd rather not know. They eat monkeys. So what? Monkeys are not apes and, even if they were, humans have a tendency to eat apes in certain areas of the world ("bushmeat," as someone mentioned earlier), so it's not like they're doing anything worse than we do.
- monkeeofevil, on 10/24/2008, -0/+4Hey, your not my spokesman!
but yes, I approve. - spiritflare1, on 10/24/2008, -1/+5lots of tribes in central africa and western africa catch and eat chimps and bonobos, and in some southeast asian countries as well. monkey see, monkey do.
- 55mph, on 10/24/2008, -0/+4dugg for monkeys.

- ThDecider, on 10/24/2008, -0/+3meh,
we already know that chimps hunt monkeys. why is this such a surprise? - Slade605, on 10/24/2008, -0/+3Kudos for following morals,
- Never judge a book by it's cover.
- Never say never
So, judge a book by it's cover. - str3ama, on 10/24/2008, -0/+3They also engage in varied sexual acts including oral sex, lesbian/homosexuality (previously thought to be a way of showing rank or authority, but there has been proof that it may be for pleasure adding them to a list of animals that have sex for fun, rather then for procreation). They took notice because they walk erect, which is long ago figured to be one of the things that classified humans as superior, along with opposable thumbs - which was disputed with most great apes. These guys are violent sex machines, just like humans..the resemblance is very uncanny.
- monkeeofevil, on 10/24/2008, -1/+4LOL, I dugg you up just because it made me laugh and was so random
- inactive, on 10/24/2008, -1/+4Dugg back up cuz I lol'd too.
- honeybrass, on 10/24/2008, -1/+4oh, we have a new meme! In before ....
I'd better start using it before it becomes stale and we get tons of complaints and then just like sheep the digg community starts digging down the meme users. So get in before it gets out!! - TimothyPrice, on 10/24/2008, -0/+3That is somewhat disgusting.

- Harabeck, on 10/24/2008, -0/+2"That'd be live saying that humans are declaring war on animals that we hunt"
No not really, we are far, far above anything we eat. Bonobos are much closer, in terms of competition of territory, food sources, etc, that we are to any wild animal. - rushiku, on 10/24/2008, -0/+2"No not really, we are far, far above anything we eat. Yes, today, how about just 200 years ago?
"Jonas! I'ma gonna kill me one dem wild pigs! Sombitches, cain't tell ME I need to allow them access to their sacred holler!"
Better(?)
"Form up men! We're expecting an invasion force of some 1000 deer and a bear. Look sharp!" - inactive, on 10/24/2008, -0/+2Further proof that apes are smarter than vegetarians.
