- theutopian, on 03/09/2008, -38/+237Does anyone really expect anything better from a government that places so little value on human life itself? China is a disgusting place. The Olympics are just an elaborate show. Thousands of people have been displaced, beaten, arrested just to put on a good face for the Olympics. The First World shouldn't come to the Third World like this. I'm a cat person. I have three cats. One, my friendliest one, I rescued off the street when he came up to me, said hello and fell asleep in my front car seat while I wasn't looking. I get sad thinking about the people who had abandoned the friendliest, most loving cat I have ever owned. China doesn't deserve cats. China doesn't deserve humans. ***** China.
- flutterby10, on 03/09/2008, -17/+166Sickening.......couldn't even finish reading this article
- ittech, on 03/09/2008, -15/+137We slaughter chickens and cows, they can do so for cats, especially if they really do eat them.
But there has to be humane treatment of animals, even those destined for food or just simply stray and diseased.
That they have no care for their method or conditions and are actively causing suffering and pain is just inexcusable. - ashwinmudigonda, on 03/09/2008, -18/+137Heck. It is China. The title could have replaced cats with "people" and you wouldn't be too surprised. Please, all. Boycott the Red olympics. These ***** don't deserve a slice of the pie.
- inactive, on 03/09/2008, -6/+108I guess they're going to have a bigger rodent problem just in time for the OIympics.
- chronichyjinx, on 03/09/2008, -6/+81I still don't understand how they got the Olympics
- mstcrow5429, on 03/09/2008, -26/+91Death to the ChiComs. The PRC is ruled by inhuman monsters, and no civilized nation should treat the PRC as anything but an international pariah. Its barbaric brutality to both its subjects and animals can never be forgiven.
- bskerr88, on 03/09/2008, -12/+67absolutely awful. i don't understand how anyone could do something like this.. sick people.
just like the soldier and that dog. god damnit. - imaxami, on 03/09/2008, -2/+55This is how the RAT population, or I should say: the REAL disease carriers, will explode dramatically and *poof*, REAL DISEASE will arrive just in time for the Olympics. Step 1: History Step. 2: See step 1 and repeat.
- DeadBabyFloat, on 03/09/2008, -5/+43Terrible news on this Caturday.
- hollywoodphony, on 03/09/2008, -9/+43I couldn't even read this. Just that sad thumbnail of the wagon full of cats was too much for me.
- MildApplause, on 03/09/2008, -8/+39Not a civilized country.
I don't care what kind of economic gains you've made. If you don't understand the idea of basic civil rights to living beings, you are barbarians. - MarsSentinel, on 03/09/2008, -8/+38DO NOT WANT (China)
- semisweetchild, on 03/09/2008, -5/+34The difference here is that we're putting the animals to sleep, not allowing them to die a slow and painful death.
- Deaconstructed, on 03/09/2008, -4/+30Because it's a life. Someone who can murder or cause such pain to an innocent creature [even if for survival/food] without feeling anything for the creature doesn't deserve their own life... because there's something seriously wrong with you if you feel nothing for other sentient creatures.
- inactive, on 03/09/2008, -8/+34meanwhile the pig you'll have for dinner is being slaughtered.
- lennybird, on 03/09/2008, -6/+30That grandma is awesome
- PueSi, on 03/09/2008, -5/+26I'm pretty sure he has nothing against the Chinese people, when people to refer to a country most of the time they're talking about the government.
- iupetre, on 03/09/2008, -6/+27This is so disgusting. This article made me sick to my stomach.
- inactive, on 03/09/2008, -2/+22Can you believe this? Google Translate translated this into:
"I can Haz justice?" The "哈茲" characters are "Haz." - Bigzz, on 03/09/2008, -1/+20I know- its so short sighted. If anything the cats are keeping the city healthier.
- oxdeltaxo, on 03/09/2008, -5/+24This isn't entirely shocking coming from the PRC.
- pauleric, on 03/09/2008, -5/+24No. Pounds don't club animals to death, or cage them up to die a slow painful death of disease or starvation. Or serve them in restaurants. And if you feel the urge to call me a racist for mentioning restaurants, first go read the ***** article.
- Ellipsys, on 03/09/2008, -3/+21I'm digging you down because his post doesn't include anything to say that the Chinese people are disgusting - He only cites the government and their inhumane policies towards people and animals, which you presumably agree with. Also, I don't have to live in the Sudan to know that cutting off a woman's clitoris is a barbaric, backward practice nomatter how you try to spin it as "multiculturalism". Some times things are just wrong, and you can't provide immunity based on some backwards guilt that you have to feel all "cultural" behaviors are viable.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vXxR0-Z_TI - Light0, on 03/09/2008, -8/+25lol china is BLOWING IT. wtf is up with those guys? they even banned religious symbols at the Beijing olympics!
- SemiSarcastic, on 03/09/2008, -4/+21A cat death camp? Are evil dictatorship countries finally starting to run out of people to kill?
- SilverBack101, on 03/09/2008, -8/+24List that up as another reason to boycott the Beijing Olympics.
- Rikkochet, on 03/09/2008, -2/+18For the same reason the USA will embargo and refuse to do business with any liberty-repressing communist regime... There are ALLLLLLLWAYS exceptions for the big guy you've offshored the majority of your assets to.
- Wartz, on 03/09/2008, -1/+16I'll laugh if there is a plague outbreak just as the Olympics start.
- cdubd, on 03/09/2008, -2/+16The Chinese government also knows how to take care of their dogs:

Never mind how the link looks, it is a forum that has posted an MSNBC article. I remember reading this same article on MSNBC, but when I went back to find it, I wasn't able to. This was also the only article that has a picture. - pencilneck, on 03/09/2008, -0/+14Next month on Digg, Beijing government scrambles to solve massive rodent outbreak.
- octophobic, on 03/09/2008, -4/+17Judging by the "diseased" cat pic I'm guessing it's really a facility owned by Umbrella Corp.

我可以哈茲正義?? - toomanytuxedos, on 03/09/2008, -4/+17Most creatures in the wild do not cage their prey up, torture them then kill them slowly and painfully. Most animals do a quick ambush to grab their dinner, and it is over in the matter of minutes or even seconds. Sure, a snake may strangle a mouse to death (ouch!) but it doesn't torture it and mess with it first. It jumps out and grabs it, strangles it then eats it. End of story.
- STAX242, on 03/09/2008, -9/+21They say you can measure a culture by how they treat the most the most vulnerable.....and that doesn't just mean the handicapped it also means the most dependent... pets, be it cats or dogs! The civilization that brought us silk, gunpowder etc has lost face, credibility and any measure of acceptance by those who recognize that culture does not always equate with "humaneness", "civility", compassion etc. I am not the only person that feels that if people can not euthanize unwanted pets but permits them to die a horrible and protracted death are people who have "no hearts" for others but themselves.
- signal15, on 03/09/2008, -3/+15Well, they also just paved the way for the streets to run wild with rats and mice. Even today, the fleas on the rats carry bubonic plague, among other things.
Getting rid of the cats is swapping one problem for multiple problems. - norman619, on 03/09/2008, -9/+20*****. They kill most of the animals they "save."
- UberGeekGamer, on 03/09/2008, -14/+25Actually PETA would agree and love what the PRC is doing to these cats.
- bradcrc, on 03/09/2008, -19/+30Darn Chinese. In America we would never take stray and abandoned cats to "compounds" and then put them to death.
oh wait...
well at least we don't eat them afterwards. :) - ShrimpCrackers, on 03/09/2008, -0/+11This is actually true, not many people know this. In 2006 PETA themselves reluctantly admitted that they killed 99% of the animals they took in and has a furnace to kill them. PETA specifically is against "pet ownership" and believes animals should roam free or die rather than "suffer being a pet". This is because PETA sees all animals as equals to humans, but see's "the human slavery" of animals to be ever worse.
What PETA doesn't see is that many households treat these animals like a member of the family. - gradient01, on 03/09/2008, -19/+30The only thing that communist governments are better at than lying is killing. Arguably the US has made some bad choices, but these are trivial compared to the millions that have been murdered in the last century by the intellectual inheritors of Marx. It's 1936 all over again folks, and you can bet that we'll be at war sooner or later trying to protect ourselves or our allies against mother China. Taiwan is next ...
- MrXfromPlanetX, on 03/09/2008, -2/+13Just because the US government sucks, doesn't mean it's okay for other governments to suck to.
I'm not a fan of NPR, but every once in a while they put out a story with real substance http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?story ...
"Morning Edition, April 23, 2007 · During the past week, dozens of women in southwest China have been forced to have abortions even as late as nine months into the pregnancy, according to evidence uncovered by NPR." - auntazalea, on 03/09/2008, -2/+13What crap- the question isn't what Peta ,or compassionate liberals, are doing it is what are YOU doing- other than ranting-
- down4twenty, on 03/09/2008, -2/+12misery of searching for food? animals have been doing that ever since they have evolved. this food seeking instincts are so strong, even thousands of years of domestication can't stop dogs and cats from surviving and becoming strays once they are abandoned. The problem is with the lack of animals help groups that would provide accurate data on these animals and provide treatments and vaccinations. But how can you expect this from a country like china, which mistreats it own citizens and destroys its own environment with no apprehension?
- Wartz, on 03/09/2008, -0/+10I would laugh at the irony.
Chinese Gov Killed The Cats To Stop disease, Bubonic Plague Breaks Out As Rat Armies Invade The City Unchecked By Scorned Feline Protectors. - M4v3rIC, on 03/09/2008, -6/+16The first photograph was taken in Guangzhou... a place nowhere near Beijing. In fact, it's on the other side of the country. I don't blame the submitter for this error, but I do blame the reporters for the inconsistency. I know this very well may be happening, but after claiming to investigate Beijing's cat death-camps, I now tend to question the validity of the article and I have to say, I have to be skeptical as to what is true and what is not.
- Doomsan, on 03/10/2008, -3/+13What?
- Roger, on 03/09/2008, -3/+13What else can they do with them when no one wants them? Stockpile them in Alaska?
I don't support the killing of animals, but if it must be done I'd prefer if it was humane. - inactive, on 03/09/2008, -9/+18meanwhile, the chicken you'll have for lunch has its head chopped off.
