I don't blame the submitter for this error, but I do blame the reporters for the inconsistency. I know this very well may be happening, but after claiming to investigate Beijing's cat death-camps, I now tend to question the validity of the article and I have to say, I have to be skeptical as to what is true and what is not.

The photo of "Da Niu Fang" doesn't even show what the caption says, and as far as I know this place called "Da Niu Fang" doesn't exist. not found on any map.
        I'm not denying that this cruel treatment of animals doesn't happen, all I want to say is this is very shoddy reporting on Mr. Perry's part, and like with any article (good or bad) you should analyze it instead of taking the reporter's word.

          I find it interesting that the Americans are bringing more and more of a smear campaign against China as the Olympics draw nearer. It would seem that society can't get their heads out of their asses and actually look into things. Instead of being bitter about the actual outsourcing, maybe they should focus on WHY the outsourcing is happening in the first place? A lot of people don't want to work a lot or study in school so they can land a decent job. That's a problem. Just look at the kids growing up today....

            How do they "pretend" it's wrong? They support the healthy, viable ones and favor killing of the sick and diseased ones. Seems perfectly reasonable. My only complaint is that they limit their policies to animals when it would be more appropriate to apply the same principles to people. In 2006 PETA themselves reluctantly admitted that they killed 99% of the animals they took in and has a furnace to kill them. PETA specifically is against "pet ownership" and believes animals should roam free or die rather than "suffer being a pet". This is because PETA sees all animals as equals to humans, but see's "the human slavery" of animals to be ever worse.

        What PETA doesn't see is that many households treat these animals like a member of the family.

At least the understand that they have an over population, but for most parts of the country, which are poor, they can't have fancy ways to keeping cats from reproducing like the US or other wealthier countries can. This is what they HAVE to do to keep cats from becoming an infestation.

        If you really want to save the cats, why don't YOU go over there and pick them all up and take them to your house.

Most animals do a quick ambush to grab their dinner, and it is over in the matter of minutes or even seconds. Animals unfortunately have a sense of fear and feel pain, should they be tortured before they're killed? Have you seen some of the videos and stories uncovered recently about what goes on in some of the slaughter houses? Inbred retards working in the facilities finger ***** the chickens, sitting on them until their eyes pop out of their heads, breaking their wings, so on and so on for kicks, then they kill them. The animals are crammed into cages until they can't move. Pigs suffer a similar fate as do cows as well. Most of these animals never see the light of day, from the time they are born or hatched they are in a closed in building, caged. At least before the mass produced factory farms took over the animals had a somewhat normal existence although probably just as bad in some cases. Another prime case of greed running rampant, out of the all the animals killed annually quite a lot of the meat is just wasted. Surely the businesses mindset is, who cares we'll raise more. I grew up like most people eating meat but if I had to kill the animals to eat them I'd become a vegetarian real quick. In fact it's hard but I'm trying my best to stop eating meat. This is one of the main reasons I can't begin to believe in a supreme being creating this world. You might believe the fairy tale ***** about Adam and Eve but what in the hell did animals do to deserve their treatment and fate? Think about it, starting with a clean slate and the ability to do anything, why do things have to kill other things to survive? If a being had the power to create all this and this is the best he, she, or it could do that's pretty damn lame.

If you had to kill a cow/chicken/pig in order for you to eat , then you'd probably end up eating a lot more vegetables. Some people can do it some can. it's pretty easy to go to the store a pickup something that looks nothing like the animal that it came from. As for predators, most of them dispatch their prey fairly humanely (throat/jugular). Granted it's much easier to eat an animal if it isn't kicking and moving around. The prey animals aren't made to suffer for very long. I'd rather be a deer taken down by wolves rather than ANY animal consumed in china.

          Eating some fried chicken is fine since it's natural for us to eat meat, but when I look at what kind of life the animal had before being eaten (usually pretty bad), I tend to feel a little guilty.

We have lost that source of nature we all share. This is just an example of how far we ll have strayed. If you're feeding people then cool, I don't like Cat but it's edible and will sustain people who need food.           Cows for example, are improperly killed even when workers are "trained" to stun the cows before giving the death blow.

          When they are skinned afterward it is usually done in a sloppy manner, despite regulations. Thanks to the conditions cows are forced to live in, their skin is often covered in their own fecal matter. So when they are skinned, all sorts of things fall onto the meat.

The treatment of the cats seems somewhat inhuman, although, it seems impractical to pick each cat up in a limo to take it to the vet to have it put under. I see no reason to chop off part of a man's penis for a "covenant with god" - I think we really need to be beyond blood sacrifice. The cleanliness argument I hear is brought up frequently, but is quite flawed in that it only takes education to learn how to wash under the foreskin. Aesthetics is a foolish reason as well, as we've created a climate in this country that the normal, natural penis is viewed as ugly. Male circumcision creates an anatomical change that affects, in general, how men are able to feel pleasure and I don't feel anyone's parents should be deciding for them how sex is going to feel for the rest of their lives. So in short, I see it as outdated and only slightly less barbaric than female circumcision.

      Now I admit China's got a lot of problems, just like any other developing countries out there. It's going through a phase America and many other western countries had gone through. pollution issues, human rights issues, animal rights issues, etc, all the so called first world countries had them. Chinese government is still very young, not even 60 years old yet. It's like a 10 year old trying to figure out the right way to go. The other western countries are like 30 year olds, instead of trying to help out, they keep yelling and beating up the child. Yes, the child may be stubborn, he may not want to walk the same path as his parents, but it doesn't mean he'll end up all bad, nor he should give up hope.
      Either way, I'm quite sick of seeing extreme narrow-viewed comments like this on Digg. Grow up, and go visit the outside world once in awhile.

Yes it's a nice way of saying it, but it's accurate, and the most humane way we have of doing it currently. And poison, while the correct word, is used with intent to imply a negative connotation when in reality (within the medical community) any substance can be considered a poison under the right circumstances. So while you point out semi's selective use of words, you too are guilty - as are we all.

You can talk all you want, but please realize that the US is not some total evil entity and business is all bad. Without business and without profit the world would be alot worse for many people (from the low echelons to the high). China is a rough country outside cities, suffers from degraded human rights (US out of control tazer use has nothing on some of this stuff) and living conditions are deplorable in many locations. However, to say that the US has made conditions since,say 1960, worse is ignorant and reveals deep misunderstandings about how the world was and how it is now.

Something I really get a kick out of is the fact that Bush's appointed Secretary of Labor, Elaine Chao, was born in China, her father owns a major manufacturing company there and has other ties with manufacturing there, what a coincidence. While at her position she has shown as much concern for the US worker as the Chinese government has towards their people. So called business minded people are all about money, if they're not kept in check by regulations they tend to get carried away. The current mortgage melt down a prime example.

That seems to be the message being put out anymore by them, especially by the MTV crowd. Unfortunately people of all nationalities, colors, etc., etc. are just as guilty, human beings are human beings. The white run US government has been behind quite a lot of ***** throughout history but there isn't a country out there that hasn't been just as guilty, just maybe not on as large of scale. Look at Africa, there are so many black Africans killing other black Africans it isn't funny, why, normal reason, power and greed. Mexico, all of Central America and South America are no different than the USA. The Spaniards invaded, killed and took over the indigenous (Indian) population down there, now they're known as Hispanic, if it weren't for that they wouldn't be. Unfortunately not a lot of people handle power very well, they let it go to their heads, and color or nationality has nothing to do with it. There isn't a country, nationality, religion, group of people, whatever, that isn't guilty of all the atrocities you mentioned.
