- frooo, on 04/18/2008, -1/+85Interesting case: Women sues pet company after her husband dies after receiving an organ from an infected woman who got the virus from a hamster she got at a pet store.

I, for one, welcome our furry hamster overlords. - Akaji, on 04/18/2008, -1/+16Ass-hamster?
- SpectreFire, on 04/18/2008, -0/+14I really don't think soap opera writers could even come up with this *****.
- Typhoon2009, on 04/18/2008, -0/+12That's like saying "Mosquito kills man" (West Nile) or "Housecat kills man" (cat scratch fever) or "goldfish kills man" (insert some fish-related illness here).
- ThEDeMoNKiNg, on 04/18/2008, -4/+15They're evolving...
- steamedrice11, on 04/18/2008, -0/+10I was expecting to read about some hamster physically killed a man after reading the title.... apparently not. It's still interesting tho
- MattJF317, on 04/18/2008, -1/+11Did this guy put it in his ass too...?
- terrix, on 04/18/2008, -0/+10This is rather silly, the virus is normally harmless, it just happened this guy's immune system was put out of commission since he was on suppressants. Its not PetsMart's fault the woman's organs were used while infected, nor could this possibility be reasonably foreseen given the company isn't run by doctors who know the ins and outs of organ transplants. Tragic, yes, but the man had bad luck, there are any number of things people could be infected with when you get donated organs and whether or not you live is such a crap shoot. They exercised due care, I could only see the organ donors as liable for not telling their doctors they had pet hamsters or the hospital liable this being factored into whose an eligable donor, but then again, if your getting donated organs, you take what you get, there are no guarantees on the quality of the parts and its silly for this woman to think such.
- matt487, on 04/18/2008, -1/+10Dugg for the title
- anagoge, on 04/18/2008, -2/+11Rick Astley would NEVER give you up or let you down.
- CSHYDRASHOK, on 04/18/2008, -0/+8Don't keep rodents as pets, its not safe. Too much sun light isn't safe. Sex isn't safe. Damn there isn't much that's safe. Its called life and life isn't a sure thing its a risk.
- doritos456, on 04/18/2008, -7/+15LOL
- evildeadguy, on 04/18/2008, -0/+8I'm calling off work in the morning saying I have fin rot
- kh99, on 04/18/2008, -0/+8You're right - it would take a lawyer to come up with that.
- Osirus1156, on 04/18/2008, -5/+12"Two other people died of the virus in 2005 after receiving infected organs from the same woman as her husband."
Why was she even allowed to give another organ in the first place? - DucoNihilum, on 04/18/2008, -1/+7Are they sure it wasn't a chipmunk?

hamster 1 - humans 0 - jerrylin, on 04/18/2008, -0/+6When I first read the title, I was expecting to hear Richard Gere has died from internal complications.
- emailingRob, on 04/18/2008, -0/+6Anyone else remember the Scrubs episode where 3 of Dr Coxs' transplant patients die from the donors' rabies? I guess they don't check for uber-rare diseases. Not that I'm referencing a television script as a reliable resource, mind you.
- darienphoenix, on 04/18/2008, -0/+6YAAAARGGH!
- lunachique, on 04/18/2008, -0/+6Know why gerbils can't drive? They get stuck in Gere!
- DyDx, on 04/18/2008, -0/+5Um, because when an organ donor dies _all_ of their needed organs are transplanted _immediately_? So they all got infected at once, it's just this guy survived a few years longer.
- Akaji, on 04/18/2008, -1/+6Wow, that's so funny and original! Man, I wish I had the brains to come up with such an original prank...
- talkinboutru, on 04/18/2008, -0/+5third time's a charm
- emailingRob, on 04/18/2008, -0/+5They look, and feel... well... like hamsters, mostly.
- Asianwaste, on 04/18/2008, -1/+5Was thinking the same thing. That damn hamster killed everyone that loved him.

- kh99, on 04/18/2008, -0/+4The only party involved that has money. You just know that a lawyer thought that one up.
- Tallon29, on 04/18/2008, -0/+4Armageddon!
- sassafras1232, on 04/18/2008, -0/+4Why does the organ bank not screen for this? It seems that most people who get organ transplants also get immunosuppressive drugs as well. So any organ carrying this disease could be fatal to implant.
- chrispeters, on 04/18/2008, -0/+3You would think the hospital would test for bacteria and viruses before passing the organs on.
- MioTheGreat, on 04/18/2008, -0/+3Lemmiwinks!
- amerine, on 04/18/2008, -1/+4haha, i read the headline and was like "omg.. its The Sims!"
- desuexmachina, on 04/18/2008, -0/+3More importantly, if somebody is waiting for an organ, they really don't have the time to wait around for all these tests to manifest.
- ubuwalker31, on 04/18/2008, -0/+3alt.binaries.pictures.erotica.hamsters.duct-tape -- 'nuff said.
- qber, on 04/18/2008, -0/+3Have you ever met a two time, soon to be three time organ donor who's still alive? Think about it...
- oneredeye, on 04/18/2008, -0/+3They should be suing the hospital that performed the transplants. The company who sold the pet to the woman who donated her organs should be beyond reproach in this case. Besides, the disease is incredibly rare and only causes problems in people with a compromised immune system (organ recipients). This is just a case of overzealous suing.
