- TouchingWood, on 03/17/2009, -1/+10This is really sad.
- Pseudorious, on 03/18/2009, -0/+7Maybe the name mountain chicken frog was just too much of an abomination.
Though I hate learning about extinctions, Montserrat is going to blow eventually and life on it will be wiped out anyhow. The UK has already granted full citizenship to all current Montserrat residents for this eventuality. - carbonetc, on 03/18/2009, -0/+7More about Chytrid: http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/2009/04/amphibia ...
For amphibians, it's the black death. - hammr, on 03/19/2009, -0/+4If you RTFA you will see that your "do they taste like chicken" jokes fail.
"The frogs are so called because their meat tastes like chicken. In both Caribbean islands - the only places where they naturally occur now - hunting was already impacting populations before the arrival of chytrid." - piesforyou, on 03/19/2009, -0/+2Lucky bastards. I wish I could be taken into a captive breeding program.
- prcrimm1, on 03/19/2009, -0/+2More from the moonbats. Montserrat, in the news a few years back. Blew its top and all of the population of humans had to be permantely removed. Maybe, just maybe, this havoc created a problem with the remaining flora and fauna. Just maybe, Oh, forgot to mention that eh. Any population stressed by a volcanic eruption, might just not be able to survive another attack from a separate source. And by the way the article said that a 2005 trek to the island had found no infections from the virus. Maybe, just maybe they brought it with them. The article suggests that incursions from the other islands could be the source. Moonbats spreading the fever. Now theres a headline.
- wjlaw100, on 03/20/2009, -0/+1Sorry, but from the title, I thought it was a restaurant reviewer, reviewing a restaurants latest sandwich.
Fungus devastates 'chicken' frog - wjlaw100, on 03/20/2009, -0/+1Aw, don't ask when you know it already!
- inactive, on 03/19/2009, -2/+2Are you serious? That thing is named Chicken frog.
- Poniax, on 03/20/2009, -0/+0Give them to the dog lady. I'm sure she wouldn't mind.
- mimimiaou, on 03/19/2009, -1/+1This is so depressing. If they had a "donate now" link there I would have been all over it, just to feel a little better about the world.
- tardigrade, on 03/19/2009, -1/+0Chytrid essentially prevents gas exchange through the skin
- bluebirdgm, on 03/19/2009, -2/+1"...Maybe I used too many chickens...Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a frog making a gift for you?"
- Terwa, on 03/19/2009, -2/+1'Chicken Frog' sounds like it could be a Wesley Willis song.
- collinong, on 03/19/2009, -4/+2but how does it taste?
- VenDrake, on 03/19/2009, -3/+1What did one lesbian frog say to the other lesbian frog?

- Brassbud, on 03/19/2009, -5/+1I think if somebody said, "Look at that mountain chicken!" the last thing I would expect to see is a frog.
