- livegreenordie, on 05/19/2008, -2/+20 Why can't we?
- BUrAph, on 05/19/2008, -0/+16Wow, crazy coincidence. My parents went to Santa Barbara last week and sent me a picture of the same cat, dog and rat. The guy must have given the same speech to my parents, because I got a lecture from my mom about how important it is to get along and accept everyone...which clearly is possible if a cat, dog and rat can live together...but then I tuned her out. Anyway, here is the picture:

- Ikon, on 05/19/2008, -0/+10I see this guy almost everyday. Yes, the cat is actually balancing on the back of the dog, and the rat is actually balancing on the back of the dog.
If you want to see them, visit State Street in Santa Barbara, California. He never leaves, it's his home. - dinobot, on 05/19/2008, -5/+15Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies! Rivers and seas boiling! Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes... The dead rising from the grave! Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!
- ferreth, on 05/19/2008, -2/+11That goes to show you that animals make better people than people sometimes.
- punx, on 05/19/2008, -0/+6I have a 120 pound Golden Retriever who was afraid of my rat. The rat chased him around my house, just wanting to be friends, but the dog was terrified of him. But then again, if someone broke into my house, he would hold the flashlight for the burglars, and probably help load my stuff into their car. Strange animal.

- Auryn, on 05/19/2008, -0/+5If a Mexican, a white person, and a black guy can live in Harmony, then perhaps maybe one day we can heal the world!
And make it a better place.
For you, and for me, and the entire human race! - Heiliger, on 05/19/2008, -0/+4MASS HYSTERIA!
- jennabunnykins, on 05/19/2008, -0/+3I can't believe the cat was even grooming the rat!
- agentmedia, on 05/19/2008, -0/+3When i was young we had a we had a rat, cats and a dog they all got along fine
- kiwiboyus, on 05/19/2008, -0/+3The last time I saw them all down on State St. the dog growled and barked at another dog that was looking at the cat and the rat the wrong way. Very cool.
- akimbo, on 05/19/2008, -0/+3I guess the internet is going to replace the role of the moralizing parent :) (or is it just digg.com)
- Hedgecore, on 05/19/2008, -0/+3Weird, I've had rats before and it was my understanding that they were naturally dispositioned to freak out from the scent of a predator's urine. Granted *we* can't smell it on dogs/cats but they sure can. My roommate's cat went near the rat cage and my albino freaked out and panicked. I know they grew up together but it's still weird seeing the rat overcome it's natural instincts. Very cool that the cat groomed him too. I do feel bad for the cat and the dog though, male rats tend to leave a drop or two every couple feet they walk to mark their territory. Mine unfortunately had an amorous meeting with the TV remote. :(

- zcreem, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2Nice social piece, I really like the fact the poor old rat gets a bit of good press here.

- Filter, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2I've known it was possible for a long time. We trained our animals like that but our pets were never that close.
- teeheehee, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2Are you sure he never leaves? I'm pretty sure I've seen him in Santa Fe a couple of times when visiting....
- meestro, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2Funny, I've seen this guy on State St. in Santa Barbara. Someone had told me about him a few weeks prior, but I had forgotten until I stumbled right upon this pets. They were sleeping at the time, so I thought it was merely a trick of sedation, as the last 'pet trick' I saw in Santa Barbara was a beach bumb blowing my mind when he showed me his pet beetle who he 'trained' to sleep...then drunkenly showed me that he just dips him in wisky.
It's clear that the pets are awake in the video, so I'm more impressed now. - lucask, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2Went to school there, saw this guy all the time, he had the best pot in the city.
lawls - isilex, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1I actually have a couple pics of this when I was in Santa Barbara couple of months ago. Cute!
- Petron10, on 05/19/2008, -1/+2Too be honest, to live in such harmony, a disciplinarian government would exist and would, eventually, be seen as tyrannical. Regardless of a revolution, if there is one. Basically, without being tamed, (if you will), how can we live in such a harmony. I'm not saying I don't wish it could happen, but how can we?
- kaplanfx, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1I never saw him on state street (I lived in SB between 2000 and 2004) is he new?

- hepafilter, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1This guy used to hang out in downtown Tucson. He had a bird on there, too. My wife told me about him, and I didn't believe her. Ha.

- acegi, on 05/19/2008, -1/+1I'll give him another 20 if he can get the cat to get on the rat, and the dog on the cat.
- Visionary99, on 11/25/2008, -0/+0If anyone sees this guy anywhere I'm his long-lost (& don't laugh) but his College educated & corporate race brother. Please write or print the following email address and give it to him: volunteer_samaritan(at)live.com (I didn't type the @ symbol here to combat auto-spamming)
- mahimera, on 05/19/2008, -0/+0I'm surprised the passing dogs didn't attack the cat and can't believe the cat was even grooming the rat!...Its very Strange
