- mecharabbit, on 05/16/2008, -1/+50A polar bear family just moved in next door to me; apparently they lost their home on the ice shelf due to global warming. Let me tell you something, they're not very cute when they have loud parties until 2:00 AM and don't mow their lawn for a month. Home values in the neighborhood are dropping rapidly. I mean, I have nothing against polar bears in general, but...
- mlvassallo, on 05/16/2008, -3/+49Adorable or not, they will ***** kill you.
- seastobble, on 05/16/2008, -1/+31"It is estimated that bears kill over two million salmon a year. Attacks by salmon on bears are much more rare."

- inactive, on 05/16/2008, -5/+17how long since right wing extremists start bitching destroying the earth is impossible.
they must be monumentally stupid to believe humans can't harm the earth. - wankelrotary, on 05/16/2008, -3/+13"since I don't have kids, never will have kids..."

- seastobble, on 05/16/2008, -2/+9Bears are a proud people, although they're not people per-say. They're animals. Bears derive their name from a football team in Chicago. Bears have been known to attack man, although the fact is that fewer people have been killed by bears than in all of World World I and World War II combined. Brown bears bloves fishing. Brown... Brown bears bloves... God, why am I having so much trouble saying brown...
- inactive, on 05/16/2008, -0/+7Except that nobody was - it was just some adorable pictures of polar bears. You're the one who started in about global warming.

- cha5e, on 05/16/2008, -1/+5Threatened doesn't necessarily mean "there aren't that many of them". It can also mean "there's something that *threatens* them".
For instance: hypothetically, if you doubled the number of people in the world, but also took away all the food in the world, people would be threatened, even though (for a while) there would be a lot of us. Obviously the next step in that scenario would be a population crash.
In the case of the polar bears, the threat that threatens them, thus making them a threatened species, is that their habitat is shrinking. - DevilDriver, on 05/16/2008, -2/+5I agree. Buried for stupid title.
- Plower, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3sources?
- fxu1989, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3It's possible.
Ever thought about manbearpig ? Half man, half bear, half pig. - inactive, on 05/16/2008, -2/+5You really believe the politicians when they say, "Oh, if only we could drill in ANWR, everything would be better"? They keep saying that because idiots like you buy it up. You accept their excuses, all while giving them a pass on actually accomplishing anything real.
- Nosty, on 05/16/2008, -2/+5FEMALE polar bear Flocke plays in the pond in HIS enclosure at the zoo in Nuremberg.
Well which is it!? - CrucifiedEgo, on 05/16/2008, -5/+8Turn it off Jimmy, Turn it off.
- inactive, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2i agree with a site that doesn't work on every standards compliant webbrowser is a piece of crap, however i also agree that in their current latest versions opera is a peice of crap compared to firefox
- arjie, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2Not so funny, really. Would you digg up your house's foundations for a gold coin? The benefit does not justify the cost (of losing the house here, of losing the ANWR there). It's just that the cost isn't measured in monetary terms.
- stretch611, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2May your username become your reality...
- ukblacknight, on 05/16/2008, -1/+3IT'S BEHIN..... actually no, *****.. carry on...

- aechase, on 05/16/2008, -1/+3Them and robots.
- inactive, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2No. But it is kind of funny that we've got resources that could be exploited and we're sitting around with out hands in our pockets.

Where is your cute now? - monsterling, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2what what in the butt
- inactive, on 09/11/2008, -0/+2yes, damn humans.
please do us all a favor, and if you really think humans are such parasites, begin taking care of the problem starting with yourself - marcusbrutus, on 05/16/2008, -1/+3Polar Bear is a white meat? I think not. I do question his choice of Merlot, it would dominate rather than compliment the meal. A Shriaz might do a little better.
- inactive, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2A coke and a smile
- OwdenBowden, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2How long until Al Gore claims that he created the Polar Bear?
How long after that does Obama see "Change" for our Polar Bear brothers and sisters. - haterofps3, on 05/16/2008, -1/+3Don't you dare speak for humanity!
- xtremesniper, on 05/16/2008, -1/+3What animal wouldn't slice your throat clear off "if need be"?
- Aidje, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2Awful used to mean what awesome means now. But maybe you didn't want to know that. Or maybe it proves your point.
- Aidje, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2A gerbil.
- zbarnett, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1make excellent english?
- soupdawg30, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1Animals aren't people.
- Gunsdead, on 05/16/2008, -1/+2Um, considering these images are taken from zoo setting, I would suggest that these shots are already an extreme rarity.
- soupdawg30, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1You're all dumb.
- HousePlaya, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1First of all I didn't say it wasn't melting. I didn't say anything was bs,
I've done plenty of research...
Here's some literature as well: http://www.thedailygreen.com/environmental-news/la ...
All I'm saying is that there are way too many people who are making careers and gaining politcal power out of the global warming scare and not enough people doing research as you suggest. They use cute pictures of polar bears that look like they're stranded on ice, floating away to their doom in order to tug at our hearts (http://www.abc.net.au/mediawatch/transcripts/s1887 ... while not mentioning any other facts like record poulations in the past half a century: http://epw.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction= ...
Or this: http://forecastingprinciples.com/Public_Policy/Pol ...
How many news reports have you seen that are ultimately blaming humans for melting ice and threatening polar bears, and how many times have you seen the mention of drastic changes to the artic wind paterns playing a role (as reported by nasa: http://www.nasa.gov/vision/earth/lookingatearth/qu ...
The fact is that none of the speculation is based on current scientific studies but on forecasts and predictions of decades to come based on computer models. (Even though we can't predict the weather for more than a week.)
Yes, indeed, I suggest everybody "do some research." -
