The background is blown out of focus like the shooter had a long lens and a wide aperture but then too much of the stump the bird is on is completely sharp. That is why it looks fake on first glance to almost everyone -- your brain knows about depth of field from seeing enough real photos. The front and back of the stump should be slightly blurry.
