- dwaxe, on 10/28/2009, -1/+10This thing better infect those Twilight vampires.
- laniekins, on 10/28/2009, -0/+7Hopefully they find some way to treat the bats, we need them for controlling the insect populations. And people can start caving again :)
- bkeller81, on 10/28/2009, -1/+7The fungus is spreading so rapidly because it is being carried from cave to cave by humans. We are part of the problem. There is no reason why we cannon also be part of the solution.
- slifty, on 10/28/2009, -2/+8Unclearly Titled Article, Confuses 90% of Digg
(Or maybe it was just me... All I know is I was hoping to read an article about a bunch of badass bats going out and killing diseases) - kkm3, on 10/28/2009, -0/+4Bad news for bats = bad news for batman = bad news for humans.
- digitalArtform, on 10/28/2009, -0/+4Save the bats.
Then make them fight each other until the very strongest is found. - slvrbullet87, on 10/28/2009, -0/+3I will run with the odds and say he is dead.
- laniekins, on 10/28/2009, -0/+3In my caving club, that has been a major issue that we have been discussing over the past months. Half of us want to keep caving and let nature take its own path and the other half want us to stop caving in order to prevent the fungus from spreading further and wait until we can find a way to stop it.
- NoamChimpsky, on 10/28/2009, -0/+3So, first the honeybees suffered sudden hive collapse, now the bats are dying off, and yet those damn Asian lady beetles are everywhere. Why do only the useful species seem to be suffering?
- cyberthief, on 10/28/2009, -0/+3i have bats in my house, i love watching them in the evening and hearing them in my old chimney. My very favorite part is going outside and never being bitten by a single mosquito all year. I hope this disease never makes it over to the west coast.
- Chaserloser, on 10/28/2009, -0/+3I just turn the batman spotlight on.
- dennisa31, on 10/28/2009, -0/+2maybe one day space bat will return with a cure!
http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/shuttle/shuttlem ... - houi, on 10/28/2009, -0/+2Why can't there be something like this that kills the mountain pine beetles!!
- chriswastaken, on 10/28/2009, -0/+2Ok, so where do the environmentalists stand on this?
The natural course has taken it's toll on bats and a disease is taking it over.
Should we go after the cause and try and save this species of bat?
OR
Do we let them fend for themselves in the wild and let the strongest survive? - digitalArtform, on 10/28/2009, -0/+2Where was Ozzy when this went down?
- chriswastaken, on 10/28/2009, -0/+1Asian Lady beetles?
Like the ones I get mad at on the freeway?
Edit: Sorry. They're lady bugs, not the horrible driver type. - Bean888, on 10/28/2009, -0/+1Awesome! Where can I get one of those disease killing bats?
- Vindicoth, on 10/28/2009, -2/+3Did anyone else read, Creepy "disease killing bats ", ? As in bats that kill diseases?
- Fjinks, on 10/28/2009, -0/+1http://tinypic.com/r/16kvrev/4
- sipsyrup, on 10/28/2009, -0/+1Sat under a bridge the other day in Houston to watch them fly out of it... It's pretty awesome how many can fit in one bridge.
- professorfurley, on 10/28/2009, -0/+1batflu is the new swineflu
- Akairenn, on 10/28/2009, -1/+2We must intervene; clearly this is all the fault of humans, because we killed the dinosaurs and broke apart several super continents or something.
- bone625, on 10/28/2009, -0/+1Just keep them away from their cocaine and it will all be fine.
- Arrestedevelopr, on 10/28/2009, -0/+1Werewolves.
- NightC, on 10/28/2009, -0/+1This is messed up! I love bats! and they kill MAD bugs!
- ScottyAnimal, on 10/28/2009, -0/+1Ditto
- noirbass, on 10/28/2009, -0/+1Oh crap, let's hope this doesn't turn into the next swine flu-esque media circus.....
- EnderSaveUs, on 10/28/2009, -0/+1Creepy bat-killing disease wipes out 90% a colony.
- rrwest, on 10/29/2009, -0/+0Bats are a great way to keep mosquito populations in check.
One bat can eat around 1,000 per hour on a good night.
Do yourself and nature a favor, build a bat house. - Spirckle, on 10/28/2009, -1/+1I'm sorry to be cruel about the bats that die (not really), but their kids that survive will have a strange freaky immunity to this disease. This cycle of disease causing species bottleneck and subsequent species improvement has existed for hundreds of millions of years.
I am more astounded that humans suddenly discover that something like this can happen to the current state of nature and cry about the impending doom.
Things change. Same as it ever was. - Ajjah, on 10/28/2009, -3/+3Just because your parents can't hear that ringtone doesn't mean EVERYONE can't!
