- manzplan, on 08/31/2009, -1/+26wow I just assumed it already was illegal
- dscan, on 08/31/2009, -2/+24I misinterpreted the title as the outlaws of the Bahamas are killing all the sea turtles.
- wozup, on 08/31/2009, -1/+16I like tuttles.
- DivisibleByZero, on 08/31/2009, -0/+13sea shredder?
- naturalpapa, on 08/31/2009, -1/+11As long as it's more profitable to keep them alive, countries will protect them. When it's more profitable to look the other way, turtles will be 'harvested'.
- Rain12913, on 08/31/2009, -0/+7Really?
- soupeh, on 08/31/2009, -0/+6+1 for humanity-crushing cynicism.
- DillingerSmooth, on 08/30/2009, -3/+8I am not sure why people would be selling turtles...
- dvsbastard, on 08/31/2009, -0/+4Pictures of the outlaws can be seen here:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/24992480@N04/29882237 ... - Midnightbrewer, on 08/31/2009, -0/+4People who want to eat? Life in the Bahamas isn't all that rich and cushy for the natives. There are many people who feed their families with what they catch fishing.
- patrickh64, on 08/31/2009, -0/+4Dugg for awesomeness.
- Wabem, on 08/31/2009, -0/+4Who the ***** would kill a sea turtle?
- tradderjohn, on 08/31/2009, -0/+4Yertle the Turtle approves
- Ikus13, on 08/31/2009, -0/+4I literally dugg you up only to bury you twice. People like you deserve to be dropped in the Amazon Jungle with nothing, not even clothes, for you to find your way back to civilization. Let's see if hunting is truly a natural instinct in you.
- detcade, on 08/31/2009, -1/+4well i like them
- inactive, on 08/31/2009, -0/+3Tonight I dine on sea turtle soup?
- lolmax, on 08/31/2009, -0/+2This completely ruins my plans to move to the Bahamas and make a living selling turtle-bongs on the beach :(
- tbonez, on 08/31/2009, -0/+2yea i read it like 'bahamas outlaws are killing all sea turtles'
- Ikus13, on 08/31/2009, -0/+2They're eaten.
- shiftkgb, on 08/31/2009, -0/+2Tiger Sharks love sea turtles, let them have their meals.
- navidb, on 08/31/2009, -0/+2because some kids *wink wink* like them.
- akinnee, on 08/31/2009, -0/+2A bad ass mother *****' tiger shark that's who!
- johnwayne1, on 08/31/2009, -0/+2Turtle Power!! Now if we could only get Japan to do the same for whales.
- inactive, on 08/31/2009, -0/+2http://shredderlessthan3soup.ytmnd.com/
- dangero, on 08/31/2009, -0/+2same here. Glad I'm not the only one.
- sooperdooper, on 08/31/2009, -0/+2When killing all the sea turtles is outlawed, only outlaws will kill all the sea turtles.
- fury420, on 08/31/2009, -0/+2hunting for humans is a natural instinct for humans too, what's your point?
- rebo2, on 08/31/2009, -0/+2I love that president.
- infinitus64, on 08/31/2009, -0/+1title could have been a bit clearer i first thought that the article was about outlaws killing sea turtles.
- xindi, on 09/01/2009, -0/+1I agree that the fishing fleets that use those large nets do a lot more destruction to turtles than the entire Bahamian fishing fleet. There really are not that many turtles that are captured for food in the Bahamas anyway. I have no problem with conservation because without it there will eventually be no turtles but the Bahamas is such a small player and certainly 10 times more turtles are killed each year by US fishing ships with drag nets.
Anyway what is the difference in a turtle and say a cow? In some countries they believe cows to be holy and they will not eat any type of beef. So who are we to judge what another culture calls a delicacy? - KungFuMoses, on 08/31/2009, -0/+1They sold better than seashells by the seashore?
- timschuit, on 08/31/2009, -2/+3Why aren't we "protecting" all animals? Not just the ones about to go extinct because some humans are ***** idiots?
- wozup, on 08/31/2009, -0/+1Shark?
- DiggerLater, on 08/31/2009, -1/+2I like turtles.
- xevidentx, on 08/31/2009, -1/+2As far as i know, in the USA, no one uses any sea turtle products. i know there's turtle soup but i thought that came from the common snapping turtles.
anyhow, good news - detcade, on 08/31/2009, -0/+1For someone named 'CptnObvs' you're pretty blindly ideological
- guanyin, on 09/01/2009, -0/+1You are just numb from all the other headlines that blame Obama for everything. Completely understandable.
- datagod, on 08/31/2009, -1/+2Anyone else misread the title as "Obama outlaws killing of all sea turtles?"
- antlerboy, on 08/31/2009, -0/+1this is wonderful! i've spent half my life in the bahamas and covering up sea turtle nests to avoid detection has been a regular activity of mine. the locals love eating the eggs.
this law wont stop everyone from doing it, but it sure is a good deterrent. i'll still be covering the nests up when i see them. - ricemonster, on 08/31/2009, -1/+2I guess I'm the only one.
- Mufonix, on 08/31/2009, -0/+1LOL, yeah lets see them enforce that one.
Hunting turtles in Jamaica has been illegal for ages but those governments have no capacity to do sh*t about it.
Hate to be pessimistic, but its all a PR ploy, not a great environmental advancement. - DeadpoolPHP, on 08/31/2009, -0/+1Sir, step away from the sea turtle.
- dtele, on 08/31/2009, -0/+1And remember... You do NOT **** with Turtles!
http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/9774/murderturtle ... - rabidjester, on 08/31/2009, -1/+2Nope, just you.
- str3ama, on 08/31/2009, -0/+1Good for them, and sad that so many countries have still failed to give the basic level of protection to animals indigenous to them.
- pavanb500, on 08/31/2009, -0/+1Good! Whale Wars was getting a bit redundant! Can't wait to see what mayhem the Sea Shepherds get into in next season's show!
- trebuchet03, on 08/31/2009, -0/+1Lots of people eat them... Grand Cayman has a fairly massive turtle farm. Some are released, some sold to aquariums and most are sold to market. But these aren't wild, these are hatched and raised.
- fury420, on 08/31/2009, -0/+1says who?
perhaps human society as a whole has evolved to the point where it is taboo & unthinkable to do so, but that does not mean the natural instinct is gone, merely suppressed. When people are faced with death by starvation or cannibalism people tend to turn towards cannibalism. -
