- WordsnCollision, on 10/01/2009, -2/+14So much for the Great Disappearing Bee phenomenon - they're all moving to the city.
- captininsanity, on 10/01/2009, -0/+7People never take the time to distinguish, but honey bees are very docile. Yellow-jackets and wasps aren't as nice...
- pathouston22, on 10/01/2009, -0/+5My parents - in a neighborhood (but no houses behind them) - had a very small natural bee hive on an old brick wall post in the corner of the yard for several years. The bees never bothered anybody, never attacked anybody or the dog (she couldn't get to that part of the yard anyways).
Then this year the neighbor for 2 doors down came over, went into our back yard, stood 2 feet away and sprayed the nest while they swarmed all around him. Dumb *****. Just because they were "on his house". - malogfx, on 09/30/2009, -1/+6cool
- ssquared22, on 09/30/2009, -1/+4Sounds like a fun hobby.
- TommyGunn32, on 10/01/2009, -1/+4Twice I read this as bookkeeping.
- Kaegro, on 10/01/2009, -1/+4Jacqueline writes: "Our 3 1/2 year-old daughter is fearless and she loves the bees. (She renamed herself Firefly when she was 18 mo old and that is the only name she will answer to.)"

lol'd - scallon, on 10/01/2009, -0/+2Observation hive in the guy's kitchen... Yeah i can't see anyway that could go wrong.
- weister42, on 10/01/2009, -1/+3Maybe Detroit can reuse all the abandoned city lots for beekeeping, no worries about crime because no one wants to mess with beehives. There ya go Detroit, the Bee City!
- Ziriux, on 09/30/2009, -1/+3Wow these are gorgeous pics I must admit. You would think a garden with that much activity would be ugly.
- crazy0, on 10/01/2009, -2/+4cant wait till urban beekeeping gets banned cuz of some ahole and their allergic reactions.....
- msoeden, on 10/01/2009, -0/+2yes, did you know that as of 2008, more than half of the world's bee population lives in urban areas? ;)
- Coffeedemon, on 10/01/2009, -0/+2To the Beemobile!
- MikeyMoose, on 10/01/2009, -0/+2Doh! I was hoping the reply would be "Yes, too quiet" and I could come back with "No noise means, ... no bees"
I'm glad *someone* caught on. - dig1x, on 10/01/2009, -0/+2Read all the captions to the goddamn slides, nitwit.
- msoeden, on 10/01/2009, -0/+2love the pic of the little kid w the smoker!
- osteor10, on 10/01/2009, -1/+2Brock's geodude would have fun with those.
- altgeeky1, on 10/01/2009, -0/+1That's grounds for trespassing and vandalism... and if you can prove economic harm (you collected honey, etc) you can sue in civil court also.
He can kill the bees on HIS property, but not yours. Just like if you had an apple tree, he can cut branches that overhang his property... but he can't waltz into your yard and decide to cut the tree down. - bjs3171, on 10/01/2009, -0/+1technically it's illegal right now. it's just not really enforced at all.
- plainOldFool, on 10/01/2009, -1/+2Un-bee-lievable
- altgeeky1, on 10/01/2009, -0/+1>So much for the Great Disappearing Bee phenomenon
The bee colony collapse problem does exist... I think you are joking..?
I know someone who started a colony in their backyard, and they're doing fine now, but that's not going to change the overall picture... - Coffeedemon, on 10/01/2009, -0/+1I thought that would take too much space and it could be days before the punchline so I cut to the chase.
- crazy0, on 10/02/2009, -0/+1deport them to the fields
- bjs3171, on 10/01/2009, -0/+1there are natural bee hives all over the place. do those bother you?
one of my housemates is keeping a hive on our roof in brooklyn. the only person to be stung, aside from the keeper, has been my dog. but that's because he's kind of a dumbass. - SteelChicken, on 10/01/2009, -1/+1should have shot the neighbor.
- BestBeekeeping, on 10/19/2009, -0/+0That's why urban beekeepers are so important - colony collapse disorder IS real, and everyone who keeps bees is helping to reverse it, bit by bit.
- kingofinternet, on 10/01/2009, -2/+2no *****, eating a spoonful of honey at bedtime cured my insomnia.
- bout2gonuts, on 10/02/2009, -0/+0Bee-utiful!
- prueab001a, on 10/03/2009, -0/+0Hi!
- Jeff901, on 10/01/2009, -2/+1I read this as
Amazing Feats of Urban Bookeeping (PICS)
I was wondering what was so good about urban accountants - sebconn, on 10/01/2009, -7/+6Call me crazy. But I don't want a friggen bee hive in my backyard.
- jer21, on 10/01/2009, -3/+2HELP! I'm covered in bees!
- MikeyMoose, on 10/01/2009, -2/+1It's quiet.
- chadpryor, on 10/01/2009, -2/+2What is urban about this? 90% of these pictures are people living out in the country, or lake-side suburban areas. This isn't urban beekeeping at all, it's just regular bee keeping.
- FormerBabby, on 10/01/2009, -4/+2TEH B33S R GOIN WAYS!!!
- RealmDown, on 10/01/2009, -3/+1Bee good
- MatlasK, on 10/01/2009, -4/+0They don't allow you to have bees in here.
- Merendino, on 10/01/2009, -6/+1Man informative article. I can cut my heating bills by up to 90%. I didn't even ***** know that! Now I do! Thanks urban beekeepers!
