10 metre Greenland Shark - the largest shark ever caught on camera (not including whale sharks) seen in the Tsurugu trench(?)- commentary is in Japanese. The sharks swimming in front of the camera are 2 metres long, for an idea of scale.- Dustmuffins, on 05/02/2008, -0/+1Why do they always show random people on japanese television in the corners?
- PaulOwen, on 05/02/2008, -0/+1They are random celebrities, the deal is they get lots of money for putting on faces - it's almost acting for them.
I can't believe someone has actually dugg me down for adding a video of the largest sea monster ever caught on camera. Sometimes I think stupid peoples' spite has ***** Digg up beyond all recognition.

- pattywack, on 05/01/2008, -3/+32Dugg for picture of Mola Mola (sunfish)... whom is still, to this day, the most impressive fish at the Monterey Bay Aquarium.
- Rizmaster, on 05/01/2008, -1/+10Was. According to the article it was released into the wild.
- ichabunni, on 05/01/2008, -0/+3i think he meant the impressiveness is uncontended to this day
- Rizmaster, on 05/01/2008, -2/+2Yeah, but he said "the most impressive fish AT the Monterey Bay Aquarium." He could have said "the most impressive fish in Monterey Bay Aquarium history" or something along those lines. Whether or not it was his intention, it implies the fish is still there.
- pattywack, on 05/06/2008, -0/+0We've had a sad history with Mola Mola's in our Aquarium, but we do still have one, thus why I said "still, to this day." My favorite Mola Mola recently died. This news story has more info...

Sea Monster are real
We get the Giant Squids wash up down here on occasion they are huge- theOster, on 05/01/2008, -1/+9which is why i am ***** terrified of the ocean
- dudefaceguyman, on 05/02/2008, -0/+2Agreed. Well...I generally have a fear of all fish so I'd be scared in the river too knowing those huge ass ***** catfish are in there...
I like eating fish though. Sort of a revenge against them for scaring me I guess.. But I'll never ever get in the water with known fish lurking about.....
- dudefaceguyman, on 05/02/2008, -0/+2Agreed. Well...I generally have a fear of all fish so I'd be scared in the river too knowing those huge ass ***** catfish are in there...
- SuperVepr308, on 05/01/2008, -1/+3Giant squids have always fascinated me. Have you actually seen a carcass up close?
- Blandyman, on 05/01/2008, -1/+3I like SCUBA diving and have always wanted to fund a deep-sea venture to send a crawler to the bottom of the ocean that runs off of some sort of renewable energy source... maybe harvest energy in some way from the nests of the chemosynthetic fish of the deep? Damn that would be awesome.
I think the only reason we haven't explored as much as we can is because of that... we can't keep anything down there long enough to explore a good amount.

- ICWeener, on 05/01/2008, -2/+6I can't fathom its size without a human in the frame. Next time they catch a giant squid I want to see a man dressed as Boba Fett stuck in its mouth...for comparison purposes only.
- Aurabolt, on 05/01/2008, -6/+1I love how the picture links on the bottom of the page are useless.
- alisiacam, on 05/01/2008, -3/+5something has to be said about the number of giant fish found near japan. I wonder whats in the water....

edit : eat that. - SomGuye, on 05/01/2008, -6/+1Aren't those catfish really rare? Same thing for the stingrays. Seems like anything unusual is automatically hunted to extinction.
- FMDC, on 05/01/2008, -1/+1No, they aren't.
- anatraj, on 05/01/2008, -2/+2um, catfish rare?

- hasslinthehoff, on 05/01/2008, -1/+13What's even more amazing is how well they go with hushpuppies.
- tonyscha, on 05/01/2008, -6/+1Title says sea monster, article says catfish, buried as Inaccurate!
- ATLien74, on 05/01/2008, -0/+1That "catfish" could swallow you whole. I think it qualifies.

- JepthaAxe, on 05/01/2008, -1/+1The giant squid is a capture from this film:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjp_jumlO3A - mnemy, on 05/01/2008, -2/+7People are always so proud to kill a fish that big. But for those rare things to be that big, they have to have survived for 100s of years. It's kind of messed up that you kill such a creature for fun.
- algo, on 05/01/2008, -0/+4even worse, they get trawled and end up in school lunches.
- QsheiK, on 05/01/2008, -1/+1That octopus looks like it's wearing Groucho specs.
Amazing pics. How do you even begin trying to catch something like that? - BrokenNebula, on 05/01/2008, -1/+3Well, hello new nightmares.
- flamingduck, on 05/01/2008, -1/+0that would make a lot of catfish tacos
- gKarkanis, on 05/01/2008, -0/+2What about the Nessie from the Lochness? And don't forget about Ogopogo too!
- Unouchable1, on 05/01/2008, -0/+0Nature is amazing, just when we think we've seen it all we find something like this that blows our minds.
- nodeuces, on 05/01/2008, -0/+6I wish they would have dropped the bomb on the Mekhong instead of Hiroshima....OR DID THEY?!
- SuperVepr308, on 05/01/2008, -0/+1dugg for the OR DID THEY?! I use that all the time:)
- dbsmoker, on 05/01/2008, -0/+4Why'd they put the LEAST impressive ones towards the end? Lame.
- MightyBob, on 05/01/2008, -0/+1I think you under estimate the horror of the giant starfish.
- Norris667, on 05/01/2008, -0/+1So what, no blue whale?
- ATLien74, on 05/01/2008, -0/+1One of my dad's old friends went on some expeditions in the Amazon back in the 50's or 60's, and he used to tell me about the pink freshwater porpoises, and the giant 500 pound catfish that were the size of a VW. Well, there it is.
- wrestlingnrj, on 05/01/2008, -0/+1Mekhong river, remind me to never swim in it.
- socoolisme, on 05/01/2008, -0/+1No cloverfield monster no digg. I don't care that it's fictional.
- jjcyber, on 05/01/2008, -0/+3Lol, lets see, giant crabs, giant squids, and giant jellyfish. Yeah, Japan's up to something funny. Either that, or all the anime and tentacle rape I've seen has actually been accurate accounts of real events.
- M4RSH4LL, on 05/01/2008, -0/+2Can someone explain why most of the giant sea creatures come from around Japan?
- jer21, on 05/01/2008, -1/+0So this is where the Japanese get their ideas for porn from.
- ragingdemon626, on 05/01/2008, -0/+0The eye of the squid scares me. It reminds me of Cyrus; the cyclops from Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay.
- Lastgreatwar, on 05/01/2008, -0/+2This is just another reason for me to stay out of the ocean. Thanks digg.
