A lot of people did. For those who have paid even the slightest bit of attention to his work over the last couple of decades or so, probably aren't too surprised to see where he's at today. He is, and always has been, one funny *****. Especially on weed ;P - EochaidRiata, on 10/12/2007, -4/+24"Young Jon Stewart - 1994 - On Letterman
Who would have ever thought Jon Stewart would be where he is today."
He is doing the exact same thing today that he was in 1994: hosting a talk/comedy show on cable television. - dingdingding, on 10/12/2007, -5/+23get of my lawn!
- PAJK, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20His reach has extended the Internet, and namely, Digg's video section. You must be new.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18What do you mean? If they show it here in New Zealand surely you aussies get it...
- b403, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20This was lifted from http://throwawayyourtv.com and they deserve credit; great site.
- somnus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Yes, that is a link.
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -5/+19My opinion of Australia has just been lowered.
- brettrobot, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1732 is plenty young... damn whippersnappers...
- Thater, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13Actually it's one of the highest rated cable shows on TV in the us, not to mention it's two peabody awards and it's 9 emmy's. I think he's doing a lot better than you'd like to admit. In fact the ratings have doubled for The Daily Show since Jon Stewart came on board.
- whitesaint, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8on weed? is that us or him? If it's us, I second that :-p
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I didn't realized till checking the wikipedia right now that he's nearly 44!
Although 12 years ago would make him 32 at the time, hardly 'young' - Dundasbro, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11I am Australian and I assure all of you that I am well aware of Jon Stewart, and he is greatly loved by those I know :p
- scrubadub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Ahh the leather
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11Where the hell are you getting your information?
From wikipedia: "Television ratings show that the program generally has 1.5 million viewers nightly [5], a high figure for cable television." (that's for sept 2005) - Settra, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10The Daily Show.
On comedy channel you prude. - bpapa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Somebody should try and find this clip from around the same time - one of the first few episodes of the Jon Stewart show on MTV, Dave Chappelle was on hyping Robin Hood: Men in Tights. 10 years later, those 2 would rule Cable comedy.
- sathias, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7@diggAddict
Are you new to the internet or something? Jon Stewart has a considerable following here in Australia, especially among the internet savvy Aussies, as well as Stephen Colbert after his effort at the Presidential Correspondence dinner.
I just wish we had as diverse and free speaking a media as the US seems to have. The closest thing we have to the Daily Show is the Chaser, and while they do some very funny stuff, they aren't as politically active as Stewart and co. And the idea that someone in our media could speak out against the government as Olbermann did this week is just unheard of.
But what do you expect from a country that spawned Rupert Murdoch :( - ArcticCelt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"I'd say he was perennially overrated until he scored with the Daily Show."
In the contrary, it proves that people that saw something in him where right about it, even if he did not succeed at first try. It almost proves that he was underrated. - MikeF74, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Trust me, what really makes you feel old is remembering seeing him on MTV's 'You Wrote It, You Watch It'.
- sakuraz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6was on SBS too.
I think you're watching too much footy and not enough quality TV - LexisNexis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4He hosted the Oscars for chrissakes!
- NapoleonGold, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Now he is interviewing Perez Musharaf (probably wrong spelling) and I would not be surprised if he takes all News stations interviews, coming onto his show instead.
The sad part is he has more News savvy then all the "News" combined.
I bet you money the GOP watches the Daily Show VERRY carefully. - SuperCujo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8I think Jon Stewart has to be very thankful to George W. Bush and Dick Cheney. They make his job so easy nowadays...
- kloo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Checkout Foxtels The Comedy Channel for him in Aus.
- monkeyman08854, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@ supercujo
He is thankful. Did you see his speech at last elections? The one where he begged the United States to make his job hard? If not, look for it. It was a good episode. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7in the torrent age, what show isn't on the internet the same night it airs?
- blackjack75, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"His reach did not extend to Australia as far as I know - sorry no digg."
You must be kidding right? How can you live in an english-speaking country, visit digg regularly to the point of calling yourself diggAddict and not know him? I even had friends talk to me about him, and I thought I was the only one watching this in Switzerland... and none of us had ever been to the U.S. He's famous because he's awesome to the point that some people will learn your language just to watch him. - blackjack75, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If they did ... you'd hope that by now they would have realized how deeply wrong they are wrong.
- zip000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I think (or hope anyway) that the guy was kidding.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Damn 1994 was a long time ago. That clip makes me feel old. Stewart hasn't changed much. Smart and funny as hell.
- newevilmind, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The funniest part was when Dave Letterman says "I don't think Regis truns down anything" so true.
- ogletree, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Anybody could have raised the ratings from that idiot that had before him on the Daily Show. Oh I hated that show I had to change the channel during the contant comercials for it. John Stewart is one of the funniest guys out there. I hope he never leaves the show and goes to a Network.
- crossers, on 07/14/2008, -0/+0 If you will search you can find somebody!

- thecharliefarm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1i'm with you diggaddict, i'd never heard of him and clicked the link to see if i recognised his face - he looks familiar, but man... i must've been living under a rock. he may have some aussie fans but put it this way, he's definitely not a household name down here.
- xGORDOx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Think he could have pulled off the leather jacket if he used his real name?
Jon Leibowitz.
Doubt it. - dutchrapley, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0The best part isn't that Jon Stewart was on Letterman in 1994, but a minute into the clip, that is a shot of Dick Dale on guitar.
- truspark, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Actually back then everyone had high expectations of young Jon. He was always in the running for the next late-night show. I'd say he was perennially overrated until he scored with the Daily Show.
- ScottyQuest, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2*laughing* Get "of" your lawn? Like become from your yard?
...In my day we said "Get off my lawn" but I guess the times are a'changin.
- Scott - xtr3m, on 10/12/2007, -13/+8Ok, let me try too:
Who would have ever thought that online video would be as big as it is today and that every episode of Jon Stewart's show would be posted online the same night it airs? - fnaqzna, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3Link?
- erichb1, on 10/12/2007, -14/+6Man he was not funny in 1994.
- banderbe, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1Jon Stewart sucks.
- Buckeye70, on 10/12/2007, -13/+4What a celebrity who leans to the left? Who would have thought.
- 0v3rk1ll, on 10/12/2007, -12/+1Who gives a ***** anyway? Nobody wants to hear or see that weirdo.
- SeaRover, on 10/12/2007, -29/+3OK, I give. Where is Jon today?
Oh, that's right. He's on a cable show with ratings so low that they are statistically unmeasurable. That's some success.
I would guess that about 10 times more people know who Anna Nicole Smith is than are aware that Jon Stewart exists. - diggAddict, on 10/12/2007, -49/+6Jon who?
Is this some local American comedian - I've never heard of the guy.
His reach did not extend to Australia as far as I know - sorry no digg.
