- FreshPineSent, on 01/12/2009, -27/+334But I'm black, so I'm automatically not racist.
/s - benologist, on 01/12/2009, -1/+139I didn't read your message because as a white guy if I acknowledge your race I'm a racist.
- doublefelix, on 01/12/2009, -19/+117N_GGERS?
/South Park before you jump all over me. - mattyboy555, on 01/12/2009, -1/+97I'm not racist, I just hate everyone.
- CanadianCheese, on 01/12/2009, -6/+98What a completely absurd "study". So people don't comment when an ignorant prick makes a racist comment? Oh dear god, how terribly racist.
Ridiculous. - z00k, on 01/12/2009, -3/+86NAGGERS!
- SemperFly, on 01/12/2009, -1/+82I dugg you cause you're Black; therefore I'm not racist.
- belebih, on 01/12/2009, -14/+91"What is responsible for these attitudes? Experts say one culprit is images in television, news and film that portray blacks in a negative light."
Actually, I'd say it's more blacks portraying /themselves/ in a negative light. As long black folks, particularly youths, keep associating themselves with the whole douchebag bling gansta' ***** that's considered "urban fashion", that underlying negativity will always be there. - DiggzDE, on 01/12/2009, -3/+74I like it when black people hate whites because they think whites are "all racist", yet when you consider history, back when only white people had power in the United States, there had to have been some like thinking white men who agreed that black's should be considered equal.
If it weren't for those white people helping to push that agenda, then blacks would have gotten no where in their quest for equality.
So how can a person class all white people as racist when history in itself proves otherwise? - sandersdamnit, on 01/12/2009, -10/+79Jesus Christ thanks for letting me know that I'm more racist than I thought CNN. You know I always thought CNN stood for Clumsy ***** Network, and that just proves your point.
- fairmont72, on 01/12/2009, -11/+65I took a class a year ago entitled "Psychology of Prejudice and Racism", and this was the first thing the prof talked about. Our brains automatically stereotype things and categorize things. It does this to make things convenient. Without this "grouping", interpreting "judging" things becomes difficult and takes time. Critical thinking is kinda the answer to such a thing.
We're all inhertently racist and prejudice. It should be a goal, as human beings, to try and break this. To become less and less racist. To eradicate the convenient way you think about the world. It takes work. It's one thing to "know" that racism is wrong. It's another to really work at changing the way you interpret the world. It's completely possible to perceive something one way; knowing it's wrong; then being lazy and doing nothing to challenge your own beliefs. The racist and prejudice mind is the lazy mind. - shattadeya, on 01/12/2009, -5/+59Blackenese?!? Niggaplease....
- serif69, on 01/12/2009, -3/+56Shutup, honky.
- WNW3, on 01/12/2009, -2/+49Hmmm...looks to me like CNN is the racist one. The title of the article is "You may be more racist than you think" but who is the "you"? It's talking about white people being racist. So CNN is assuming only white people read/watch CNN...WTF is that?
- CabesMojo, on 01/12/2009, -1/+47Dugg you for supporting a Black person, there for piggybacking on your non racist coattails.
- thorbergdt, on 01/12/2009, -0/+44Last I checked Jesse Jackson was black.... so therefore some Black people must be racist. That fool throws the 'race card' around more than any.... its a pity really
we all know where this thread is going - Daxx22, on 01/12/2009, -4/+46I don't consider myself racist/prejudiced, but every time I see a black kid riding a bike I can't help but think "***** stole my bike!"
I blame the media. - StuartGibson, on 06/14/2009, -1/+36That's what I thought - if they're that much of a ***** then how kindly will they take to you commenting on it?
I think the study says as much about peoples tendency to avoid confrontation as anything else. - idavidtang, on 01/12/2009, -0/+34Oh naggers. Of course, naggers. Right.
- Shaggy3, on 01/12/2009, -1/+32C-c-can i say it??
- Kosh, on 01/12/2009, -1/+32I have a question, is racism simply the grouping of people into 'black', 'white', etc, or is it making a judgment on a certain group because of the skin color? Because I don't think there is a huge problem with the mere grouping, it is, as you say, natural, but the problem might come when you say "this group is black so they are INFERIOR". Did your professor comment on that at all?
- perryc, on 01/12/2009, -9/+40But I'm blackanese, so I am automatically not racist.
There, I fixed it. - inactive, on 01/12/2009, -1/+30I love *****, what are you talking about?
- valis, on 01/12/2009, -5/+34I'm a tolerant male heterosexual over the age of 50 with no particular dislike of anyone based wholly on their genetics. (It's only after some people open their mouths that I decide whether to ignore them or not.) So, according to popular belief - I don't exist.
- zomgwaffles, on 01/12/2009, -0/+29Stereotyping = "attributing certain characteristics to those groups"
Racism = Treating someone differently (negatively OR positively) based only on their skin color. - smotpoker, on 01/12/2009, -3/+30 PHRASE
"People who annoy you"
R S T L N E - GregLoire, on 01/12/2009, -0/+26Seriously, what are they supposed to do? "OH MY GOD I'M BREATHING THE SAME AIR AS SOMEONE WHO SAID A DIRTY WORD -- GET ME OUT OF HERE!!!"
- iloveobama, on 01/12/2009, -3/+29This is why we need the government to implement mind control chips in our brains. I feel so much white guilt after reading this. Look at how rampant racism is in the United States, where a black president was just elected. Obviously no social progress has been made in the past 100 years. It makes me sick as a progressive liberal.
- starslinger72, on 01/12/2009, -3/+28um *****, wiggers and what not are looked down just as much.
- alpha88, on 01/12/2009, -10/+34What's the opposite of black?
Normal. - kinerry, on 01/12/2009, -13/+36Everytime I see someone use the word "Zionist", I know they are racist.
Also, if they belong to a black only fraternity, receive a scholarship or job because of their skin color, etc. - CabesMojo, on 01/12/2009, -1/+24Glad I wasn't the only one who thought that. The study just seems utterly ridiculous. What kind of bull crap science was that? So if they showed some one steal something and you didn't get super upset with it, would that make you a thief?
- buenit, on 01/12/2009, -1/+23JerkNowitzki, you're completely missing the point DiggzDE is trying to make. He is simply trying to say that back in the day there were a lot of whites that helped push for black freedom, therefore not all whites are racist, like a lot of minorities think.
- Flashypoo, on 01/12/2009, -0/+22They get the exact same treatment, actually. Treated like a ***** joke in the real world.
- wampalord, on 01/12/2009, -2/+23I bet a bunch of minorities made this study
- Cwolf267, on 01/12/2009, -3/+23The thing is, you tell white teenagers to stfu in a movie theater, they usually do.
You tell black people to stfu, and it's because you're racist, not because they're being annoying and ruining the movie for everybody else. Also, they're WAYYYYY more prone to start a fight. - irascib1e, on 01/12/2009, -2/+22Actually, the test results show that %50 of blacks are unconsciously racist against themselves.
- bruuks, on 01/12/2009, -0/+20when teaching in china a few years back, one of my students remarked:
"We're not racist in China; there's no black people here." - Frankyfan3, on 01/12/2009, -1/+21Everyone's all a little bit racist :)
Avenue Q explains it best:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9CSnlb-ymA&eur ... - inactive, on 01/12/2009, -2/+21I'm extremely racist, I know it. I mean, my wife is Latina and I'm always hating her. But I love my children, damn I'm so conflicted.
- fairmont72, on 01/12/2009, -0/+19The act of grouping people based off their physical appearance is not racism (imagine staring at a group of black people and a group of white people, if you identified the white group as "a group of white people", that would not be racism). It's attributing certain characteristics to those groups, based off of their physical appearance, that may start to lead towards racist behaviour.
I say "may", because simply thinking something about a group of people is not racism. That is prejudice. And prejudice can be aimed at ethnic groups, gender, age, weight, etc. Prejudice is the hardest thing to eradicate. However, that prejudice belief system is what leads to forms of discrimination: racism, sexism, ageism, lookism.
So yeah, you're right. Merely grouping is not bad (and I say "bad" from a moral perspective that egalitarianism is "good"). But when you begin attributing certain beliefs to these groups, even when you know nothing about the individuals of the group; that's when you start forming prejudice beliefs which most often lead to discriminatory behaviour. - crazyechidna83, on 01/12/2009, -1/+19why is racism always singled out as white people being racist towards black people? Try the experiment reverse way or with some Asians or Middle Easterners, white people aren't the only ones capable of racism.
- pathouston22, on 01/12/2009, -11/+28I'm not racist, I don't blindly hate all black people. I hate black people that dress like thugs, act like thugs, play loud music, and do bad things. I do like black people who don't play loud music, don't act like thugs, speak intelligently, dress cleanly, and are functioning members of society.
Unforently, the ratio of good to bad black people is not balanced in the direction I would prefer. - kolobcreek, on 01/12/2009, -10/+26Why I don't give a *****:
1. Stereo types are fun.
2. Just because I'm prejudice doesn't mean I break the law.
3. Stereo Types are often true.
4. I'm an economist.... One prejudice to rule the all... MONEY
5. There are too many quality people in the world to hate why restrict that to one or two ethnic groups when you can hate everyone. - BXRWXR, on 01/12/2009, -0/+14This thread is why we can't have nice things.
- Briandrews15, on 01/12/2009, -2/+16In other news, telling people they are different makes them believe it.
- PennFarmer, on 01/12/2009, -0/+14I think the implication is more that only white people can be racist.
- WiretapStudios, on 01/12/2009, -4/+18Who let the old guy in?
