- garf12, on 10/12/2007, -1/+60God fifth gear sucks compared to top gear. I hope they hurry up with getting Top Gear back on air.
- felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+56Voxel = Vauxhall
I wonder if he owns a Shevvie, a Phord, a Murseydeys, or a Kryslur? - supergnome, on 10/12/2007, -3/+51I've never understood the drive for fast computers.
When I use my computer, it goes something like this:
1. Start computer.
2. Use Word, with CPU at 1% utilization.
3. Shut it down.
Typically, on a day, I might use as much as 5% CPU, maybe 15% if my antivirus is running. I use a Pentium 4 and average around 0% utilization. When I played Zuma, I don't think I went over 20%, even on the really fast rounds.
So why would I need a super-fast computer? I can never use that much power to begin with, and the electricity use is awful. Why would I want to spend *more* money on running Word every day?
I'm sure for hobbyists and enthusiasts this is a great thing, but planting my rear end in front of a computer has never struck me as much "fun". So congrats to the company - but I'd be more excited by a "stock computer" that uses 5 W and only costs $100. - Xarou, on 10/12/2007, -0/+31Apparently yes... if you would have RTFA.... I mean WTFV.
- MrMysterious, on 10/12/2007, -0/+30"Things got really serious when he got stickers" LOLOL!!! That's great!
- gamesector, on 10/12/2007, -6/+35Voxel...hahaha.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+27I wouldn't have ever believed it.
We need a ***** Car's Section in digg. - djblast, on 10/12/2007, -2/+29to johnhummel:
hahaha, you are probabbly the person i cut off everyday on my way to work.
drive faster. - curseboy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+28if you don't get it, then you don't get it....This video was not made for you. While we are at it, what kind of self respecting, testicle-carrying, Y-chromosome-wielding man drives a New Beetle?
- mdmadph, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16yeah, they've got a different term for the constant flow of water that's always falling from the sky. :P
- Stemp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14it's not rainning in England :D
- FzArEkTaH, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14all jokes aside, i could really go for a triple fat beef and bacon Mac-cheese burger!
- shertzerj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12I am not a fan of Fifth Gear. During this excruciatingly long wait for new TG episodes I actually downloaded an episode of FG. I felt like I was cheating on the show. Luckily I didn't enjoy it. ;)
- mzwaterski, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11@supergnome: that was the comment of the thread, the comment of the week, and possibly the comment of the month. Thanks for making me laugh!
- cougar618, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Best line in that clip.
- Lane, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11FIVE MILES PER GALLON!
- Toothy1911, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10This is the best thing Fifth Gear has done a feature on in ages. BTW, its an old Vauxhall Victor, not a Vectra.
- an0nymous, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Yes, but can he turn?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+16does the description say 0 - 60 mph in one second? is that even possible?
- Grimdotdotdot, on 10/12/2007, -7/+14It's not a Vectra either - it's a Victor.
- benbread, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Rockyrowks, 1: since when did we use Dollars in the UK, since when did we use US Gallons!? It's 85p/litre = 5.93USD/US Gallon.
- theblooms, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11This may be the fastest street car in the UK, but it is NOWHERE NEAR the fastest street car in the world. That would be Mike Moran's 1995 Camaro named Caspar. It is a 6 second 200+ mph 1/4 mile car.
- raid517, on 10/12/2007, -23/+29Oh go away and enjoy your triple fat beef and bacon Mac-cheese burgers you pair of fat redneck American *****...
- flameboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@stevetures:
(nope) - Hubris, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5He'll definately have a locker in that thing.....turning will be something he tries to minimize.
- ivachen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Yes, most of the old top gear minus Clarkson, the only one who matters. IMO Fifth Gear trys too hard to be close to their viewer by showing and giving away cars that they will be able to related to. No, I don't need nobody to tell me how well that base civic is, because there are thousands of them running around and I could get an answer from anyone on the street. I could read the Consumer Report on a lot of the stuff Fifth Gear covers...
Plus is it me or the old guy in Fifth Gear has some crazy annoying accent. - domr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+585.9 pence per litre.
= $6.08 / US gallon - indicas, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Great car but not too practical for around town driving, especially with the racing slicks - wouldn't want to get caught in the rain.
- ctheory, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@theblooms
You're right, it is held by Mike Moran. His car is street legal, licensed and insured, and runs on DOT approved slicks. Before that, it was held (if I remember correctly) by Steve Grebeck who drove a firebird for Mike or someone else, I can't recall, before his death in Orlando, FL in a friends Mustang. :( RIP, Steve.
That's still a cool video though. - cmyke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Audi S4, or WRX? :)
- Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3To set the record straignt, it's a Vauxhall Victor: http://uk.geocities.com/autoliteraturecollector/cars/Vauxhall.1969.Victor.cover.jpg
From Wikipedia:
"The Vauxhall Victor was a medium/large model of automobile produced by Vauxhall Motors, the British subsidiary of General Motors from 1957 to 1976, when it was renamed as the VX Series and continued until 1978, when it was replaced by the Carlton, which was based on the German Opel Rekord D. The last model was manufactured under licence by Hindustan Motors in India as the Hindustan Contessa, during the 1980s and early 1990s, with an Isuzu engine.
The original Victor was the first European car to used the panoramic windscreen, and for a time was Britain's most exported car, with worldwide sales in markets as far flung as the U.S. (sold by Pontiac dealers, as Vauxhall had been part of GM since 1925), Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Asian right hand drive markets such as Ceylon (now Sri Lanka), India, Pakistan, Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore." - wolfkeeper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@ mdmadph
"climate" :-) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6This guy may be able to take on some funny cars.
- raid517, on 10/12/2007, -8/+11You may have saved the Frenchies assess but not ours mate. If you got your history from anywhere else other than Hollywood, you would know that the truth was we saved your assess. You were all to lame and cowardly to fight, so you waited until most of the job was done before jumping in at the last minute when all of the hardest fighting was over and tried to steal all the glory. Oh and if you mean all of that substandard WW1 junk that you SOLD us under your lend lease scheme, thanks very much and all for that - and for the vast national debt we accrued as a result of it, which we have only just recently finally managed to pay off under the governorship of Tony Blair. WWII was a business proposition for most Americans - just like Iraq and most of the other wars you fight are today.
- inboxnews, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3In case you're interested, this is the latest episode of Fifth Gear [10x04] which can be downloaded from here: http://www.finalgear.com/shows/fifthgear/
- jkendel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Don't be a jackass.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Funny_Car - JigglyRump, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm not impressed by the sheer power of this car as much as I'm impressed by its ability to actually put that power to the road. How the hell he got enough traction to stick 2200 hp without shredding tires is beyond me.
- curseboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Don't everybody act like functionality and performance are at all exclusive...you can have a car that does 0-60 in 5 secs, has four doors, a decent trunk, comfortable back seats, all wheel drive and gets 25mph on the freeway.....that's exactly what I have. I have never seen a New Beetle or Cabrio or Corolla or any other "practical" car that didn't slow traffic on the highway just getting on the onramp.
- TheCheeta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I was going to say, I just bought perhaps the most practical car I've ever owned... a 2007 VW Passat. But, with its 2.0 Turbo and DMG, I get 0-60 under 7 seconds... that is hardly onramp-blocking speed. Oh.... and I get 31 mpg on the highway.
The Passat is not the only one, either. Take your pick of the Euro sedans and coupes. All very practical. All very nice to look at (Audi, BMW, Mercedes, VW, Volvo), and all with very respectable performance. Acura TL. Some Suburus. Honda Accord. There are plenty of 'practical' cars that have respectable performance numbers that don't break the bank and don't suck gas. - oddball, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1not a locker, prolly a full spool...
- Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4I think the brick is less aerodynamic.
/sar
sidenote - that presneter is an id.... - Dustyb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Completely different shows. I love Top Gear, and I wouldn't disagree that it is one of the best produced shows in the world. But Fifth Gear is a great show, covering completely different subjects Top Gear is all about isane and mad cars, and Fifth Gear is more about the race scene and regular cars and hatchbacks. If you don't like the host, he's new this season, and just getting the hang of things.
And if you've done your reserch Fifth Gear uses most of Top Gears old camera crew, AND most of Top Gears old hosts. - mdmadph, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2john, the fact that it's street legal is just a funny side story -- no one (not even the owner) would use the car for constant daily driving. don't be a dumbass.
- edzieba, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@Hellsadvocate
It's actually 'guys like him' who drive at/below the limit consistently that DESTROY jams, rather than create them. The space opened up in front eats away at rolling jams, whereas driving more quickly leaves no space in front, so you just have to brake at the rear of the jam, propagating it further.

- chkltcow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sounds like my WRX. The nice thing about a turbocharged car is that when I baby it and drive like a sane person, I can get around 30mpg. When I want to have fun though, it's just waiting under my right foot.
- FzArEkTaH, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"but I'd be more excited by a "stock computer" that uses 5 W and only costs $100."
you know that's really not a bad idea, sounds kinda like the $100 laptop project, but really i know ALLOT of people that this would be a GREAT option for. Not saying it would be for me, but for other people ;) - oddball, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2NO. They do 1/4 mile in 4 seconds, at 300+mph, 0-100 in UNDER 1 second...
