- gbudavid, on 03/08/2009, -0/+51What a nasty world we live in.
- ChelseaBlacker, on 03/08/2009, -4/+44"not until day five, when he [the father] actually fed her acid I realised something was seriously wrong" says the mother. Really? It took you that long? Worst of all, these men are rarely prosecuted. Crazy that some Muslim countries tolerate this in 2009.
- Haoie, on 03/08/2009, -0/+27Domestic violence is intolerable.
- mmaine, on 03/08/2009, -2/+29FTA:"The theme of this year's International Women's Day on March 8 is "women and men united to end violence against women and girls."
International Women's Day isn't promoted as much in North America as it is in other parts of the world. People need to know that injustice/violence still exists towards women, just because they are women. - Khast, on 03/09/2009, -1/+28Stupid reason for violence. He should have put the acid on himself, because if he wanted a boy, the X chromosome comes from him, not the woman. Ah well, ignorance is his how he was raised to think, so he can spread the ignorance to his children.
Only cure for ignorance, is education...and that only goes so far. - durnit, on 03/09/2009, -8/+32how is bably formed?
- dangsta, on 03/09/2009, -0/+22how does deforming your own baby change you not getting a boy? wtf ridiculous.
- Ladymongoose, on 03/09/2009, -0/+21What a filthy excuse for a father.
- thoughtsonthis, on 03/08/2009, -8/+28This doesn't only go on in Muslim countries. It is rampant here in the United States. I never understood why some men have to do this to women. How can you do this to someone you love? What do you feel when this is happening? If some gentlemen who have done this, or even if you haven't, can give me an answer, it would be appreciated.
I have heard so many stories that beatings lead to the woman's death, that I can't in my mind understand why she would stay with this person. I, personally, would either leave or go to jail because I caused his death. - MikaStar, on 03/09/2009, -7/+26Acid throwing is not rampant in the US and don't even try to compare our justice system to their lack of. There's a lot of wrong in the US system, but by god when a woman goes to the police with horrific burns and says "so and so threw acid on me" it doesn't get "pushed to the back and forgotten" the police go and arrest the person, where as in places like Bangladesh that doesn't seem to be the case. Every country has domestic abuse, domestic abuse always has and always will happen, but it's how the justice system responds to it. In Muslim countries, there seems to be no inclination that they really give a damn that women and children are beaten, where as at least in the west, we care alot.
- Bloodwine, on 03/09/2009, -2/+20I can tell you that U.S. women are pretty bad about abuse as well. My mother rationalized the abuse I felt at the hands of my stepfather for nearly a decade. It took my stepfather nearly strangling me to death against the wall for her to finally realize that the situation wasn't quite right.
I hated my mother for being so weak, but I have finally gotten over it and forgiven her. Now that I am grown and live away from it all ...it's funny how time really can heal wounds.
I feel horrible for all the other children who suffer mental, physical, and sexual abuse. I admit I have less sympathy for abused wives, because they have the power to leave (well, in western societies at least. I do see the problem with other societies who treat women as property). I also wish more parents would stand up for their children if the other parent is abusive. Children are more important than the spouse. Always. - Zervaman, on 03/09/2009, -1/+13Faith in humanity -1000
- macmcraeart, on 03/09/2009, -1/+12damn bear scars. that ***** must hurt
- Lemonseamonkey, on 03/09/2009, -0/+9*sigh* now I know why I need the occasional 'cat makes friend with (insert other animal)' digg article.
- ChelseaBlacker, on 03/09/2009, -0/+9Thanx for sharing your experience, it must take a lot of courage to be able to share stuff like that.
- catymogo, on 03/09/2009, -3/+11I think someone should hold him down and let her drip acid on his balls every day for five days.
- t0ny, on 03/09/2009, -1/+9The acid store.
- electricmoose1, on 03/09/2009, -3/+10I thought I was the only one...
- theblueprint, on 03/09/2009, -2/+9Chris Brown.
- JollyDumple, on 03/09/2009, -1/+7I first read "Women, children scares off acid bear attacks."
Now I feel terrible and depressed, having re-read the title and description. That's sucks. It's just disgusting. - onestrawplz, on 03/09/2009, -0/+5Because women are more likely than men to be attacked solely on the basis of gender. Seriously, do we ever read stories of men having acid thrown on them just because they're men?
- inkswamp, on 03/09/2009, -1/+6That statement doesn't preclude denouncing violence against anyone else. It's just the way things are--physically men don't have to worry quite as much about being victims of violence, and socially, they are often given the role of dealing out such violence. So you have statements like that to act as reminders that violence isn't acceptable against women and children just because they are women and children. It's amazing to me that anyone actually needs such a reminder however.
- grantmoore3d, on 03/09/2009, -0/+5Time for the gallows for you then!
- anixmander, on 03/09/2009, -1/+6Read the article.
- unknamed, on 03/09/2009, -1/+6Pretty much, yeah.
- EntangledPhysx, on 03/09/2009, -1/+5How ironic. It's actually the mans fault the baby wasn't a boy. The sperm dictates whether the baby will be a male or female.
- unknamed, on 03/09/2009, -4/+8@k3rfuffl3
Your reading comprehension skills are seriously lacking... he wasn't saying that abuse doesn't exist in the United States, he was saying that when abuse does happen here it is prosecuted and prosecuted hard (unless the woman doesn't co-operate which is the most common problem). - cyberthief, on 03/09/2009, -0/+4no kidding.. you would think that in that country like that , having the prettiest young woman to marry-off would be the way to go. just sounds like he was taking the most sadistic route of murdering his daughter. And this doesn't only happen over seas, we hear stories like this all the time in british columbia too. It's very sad.
- wing05, on 03/09/2009, -0/+3Muriatic/hyrdrochloric acid is a concrete and masonary cleaner.
I watched my parents use the stuff diluted with water to give the basement floor of our new home a cleaning before they put down a coat of grey epoxy paint.
They went through a couple of straw brooms as the acid ate the straw away.
That said, anybody who tries to do anything to my wife or kids with that stuff, I will hog tie, suspend, make tiny razor cuts all over their body and then dunk them in acetic acid or isopropyl alcohol over and over again. - buckrogers1965, on 03/09/2009, -0/+3Brown is obviously another secret Muslim.
- reposado, on 03/09/2009, -2/+5Its bad luck to be a female born in a fundamentalist muslim country.
Little/no rights. Denied education. Denied freedom. etc. - Schamus, on 03/09/2009, -1/+3I thought exactly the same thing.
- FyberOptic, on 03/09/2009, -0/+2I know some people will try to say "this happens everywhere", but it's simply not true when we're talking about magnitude. And I quote:
"These attacks are common in Cambodia, Afganistan, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and other Asian countries."
"While less common than in South Asia, acid attacks occasionally occur in other regions of the world."
This is just not something you hear about happening hardly ever in most of the more, dare I say, civilized nations.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acid_attack - rento, on 03/09/2009, -0/+2***** Talibans!
- Nateon, on 03/09/2009, -0/+2I can't imagine why you would do this to your own daughter. I believe that there are absolute moral truths and this is definitely something that goes far on the immoral side.
- Kanuhduh, on 03/09/2009, -0/+2I apologize if this seems insensitive, but I read the title as "Women, Children, and Bears scared of acid attacks. Which I took as some sort of play on acids trips :(
- killerhammy, on 03/09/2009, -1/+3the father who did this is ***** up
- jabbajabba, on 03/09/2009, -0/+2""It is of no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society"
- ThermiteTerrace, on 03/09/2009, -0/+2If there were any justice in this world, Jay-Z would have stepped in to wail on Chris Brown while singing "I've got 99 problems but your face ain't one"
- buckrogers1965, on 03/09/2009, -0/+2Because education has no effect on ignorance. Oh, wait...
- Bloodwine, on 03/09/2009, -1/+3Rhianna decided to get back together with him after the incident. I have problems feeling sympathy for a person who refuses to take care of themselves or avoid bad situations. There is no excuse for her to remain with him.
If she gets hit again, then shame on her. - inactive, on 03/09/2009, -1/+3I was like, who would attack a bear with acid? That's ***** nuts if that bear still has one good eye.
- DrShotgun, on 03/09/2009, -0/+1For clarification, I don't think the lack of police attention was due to Muslim bias. Police in neighboring India are infamously corrupt and rarely actually help fix problems, and Bangledesh is even more corrupt and impoverished.
- FyberOptic, on 03/09/2009, -0/+1Actually, one woman who was blinded and disfigured in one of them countries gets to blind the man who did it to her.
Unfortunately, her mentality has been warped by their ignorant society. She feels that based on their religion, a woman is worth half a man, so therefore she only has the right to blind him in one eye. - inactive, on 03/09/2009, -3/+4Now I know how baby is formed.
- Cornloaf, on 03/09/2009, -1/+2The hippies on Haight Street.
- inactive, on 03/09/2009, -0/+1So the solution is to gather these men who do this and put acid in their penises, hands, ears or what ever suits you. My personal solution is to place a hollow point firmly into their head but maybe that's just going too far, can't quite help it since I'm a father who love's his daughter. We can talk about how horrible this is, and that their crazy or sing a thousand kum-bah-yas all day. But the missing element in any issue involving threats to our humanity is the eye for an eye solution. The crime you committed with be your punishment( or something related to it) if found guilty
- tection99, on 03/10/2009, -0/+1Words can't express how F*&K'd up that is!
- inactive, on 03/09/2009, -1/+2You're right. Gender-specific violence is worse than gender-neutral violence. /s
Just kidding. I see your point - the girl was attacked based on her gender. It's all pretty sick. -
