- inactive, on 07/08/2009, -1/+239This ***** is horrible. It makes you wonder how many innocent men go to prison for this type of lie and at the same time it discredits women who are actually raped. I am glad they saw through her lies.
- ZhiZaki, on 07/08/2009, -4/+18212 months for her....
10 years for him....
Fair and Balanced are the scales of justice.... - snobrder218, on 07/08/2009, -0/+90This reminds me of the cab driver who almost lost his whole life because some dumb hoes decided to not pay the 15$ cab ride and then yelled "rape" and made comments that he tried to make moves on them. Thank god the guy had a dash camera. Sadly, there wasn't "enough" evidence to charge the girls with anything. Pisses me off. Girls who falsely yell rape should be hit with a much harsher sentience and fine because they'll do anything to make them look innocent, and not give a ***** that someone's life is destroyed.
- scooterbaga, on 07/08/2009, -5/+91"...after investigating officers interviewed Mr Wood and witnesses, as well as studying CCTV, and grew suspicious about her version of events."
So basically CCTV saved his ass. Who says a surveillance society is all bad... Guilty until proven innocent by CCTV. - earthforce1, on 07/08/2009, -4/+86She should get the prison time he would have got if he was found guilty.
It's only fair. - inactive, on 07/08/2009, -3/+85No proof, no rape.
What's sad is a LOT of women pull this ***** just to get back at someone. And the ***** court system still entertains the idea even though there's not a single shred of evidence!!
It also reflects a lot on how stupid our society is. Rape and child molestation are two things that, once accused of, ruins your life - evidence or not. Yet people are actually dumb enough to make judgment calls!
It cries wolf for all women who claim rape. Now whenever I hear about someone trying to rape or someone who did rape, it's just not at all believable. It sounds bad, but hey: proof or it didn't happen. - Bananaboy8000, on 07/08/2009, -1/+62"met in internet"
- Kookami, on 07/08/2009, -1/+47I tried to meet a woman in a series of tubes once, but then her mushroom friend told me she was in another castle.
- weoh, on 07/08/2009, -2/+47The problem with crying wolf, is now if she ever does get raped, nobody will believe her.
- arial, on 07/08/2009, -1/+44Guilty until proven innocent :(
- diulei, on 07/08/2009, -0/+42I've always wondered - in a situation like this, could the falsely accused sue or otherwise get some compensation? I mean, he could have had his life destroyed because of a false accusation. This has to be at the very least slander.
- Pyehole, on 07/08/2009, -2/+42The punishment for a deliberate and false accusation of rape should be the same as the punishment for rape. Women want equal rights, that'd be one way of leveling the playing field.
- PacketScan, on 07/08/2009, -0/+39CCTV for the win? didn't see that coming.
- emotecontrol, on 07/08/2009, -9/+47FTA: 'I can't stop thinking that if there had been no witnesses or CCTV to prove that she was lying I would have been in real trouble and would have been sent down. I would have lost my friends and everything I've got.'
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Orwell was wrong. Public cameras are a public good. They protect us from the police, and they protect us from messed up trainwrecks like this woman. 20 years ago, this maniac would have got away with it. But today she's behind bars where she belongs. The ubiquity of public cameras helps to acquit the innocent, and that's a fine thing. - grimacebrown, on 07/08/2009, -5/+42I think you accidentally the title.
- inactive, on 07/08/2009, -3/+38Probably not as many who falsely report it out of spite or because they know they won't be questioned as to the veracity of their claim.
- j3rm1981, on 07/08/2009, -0/+35I met my British wife online. First time we met in person, it was at Buckingham fountain in Chicago. I've always thought she was brave or stupid for agreeing to meet me in person, but it never occurred to me that I, as the man, could have been in equal danger from a woman.
Sexist, I know. Stereotypical, I know. But still...scary. - Grolsch, on 07/08/2009, -2/+33Think through what you just said and you will hopefully see the fallacy in your reasoning.
- JohnGalt750, on 07/08/2009, -3/+33It's mainly a gender bias. If a man accused a woman of rape it sure wouldn't ruin her life.
In today's justice system, a woman could shoot you and have you charged for stealing her bullet. - Vodd9, on 07/08/2009, -1/+29No. The justice is messed up. Guilty until proven innocent? WTF?
- jamesotis, on 07/08/2009, -1/+29How so? I've re-read both with your criticism in mind and fail to see anything untrue or misleading.
- TrunksTheMighty, on 07/08/2009, -1/+2812 months is way too short for a crime like that. She should get the 10 years he almost got.
- LuckyASN, on 07/08/2009, -0/+27A friend of our family was going thru a divorce a while back. The wife (mega-bitch) said he molested their kids. After a pretty thorough investigation, in which the police weren't buying it, the kids admitted that he never touched them and the mother told them to say it or be punished. After that, the mother also admitted to making the whole thing up and coaching the kids on what to say, how to say it, etc.
The judge gave him full custody and a blank check. So he at least got some compensation. - Wolfie351, on 07/08/2009, -1/+26Good thing this didn't happen in the US. Overzealous prosecutors here would have hidden the evidence and sent him to jail to pad their sex crime statistics.
- Quisquis, on 07/08/2009, -1/+25Baseless generalization is baseless.
- Serinus, on 07/08/2009, -0/+24I prefer innocent until proven guilty regardless of CCTV.
- inactive, on 07/09/2009, -1/+23If a man sees a naked woman through the window, the man gets in trouble.

Welcome to America. - diggapleeeze, on 07/08/2009, -1/+23Pics or it didn't happ...oh wait.
- inactive, on 07/08/2009, -1/+21If you get accused of rape I'd like to see how you handle the way people look at you differently even if you are innocent.
- inactive, on 07/08/2009, -0/+20it's funny because it didn't happen
- jjason1985, on 07/08/2009, -0/+18They wanted to smoke in his cab. Thats how it all started.
- Zarokima, on 07/08/2009, -1/+19She should get the sentence that she almost got him for.
- yocouchdigga, on 07/08/2009, -1/+18on the interbewbs.
- skinturtle, on 07/08/2009, -6/+23Women do this a lot..they are a messed up species
- luckless, on 07/08/2009, -3/+19Hey I gotta agree, as long as they are only placed in public locations I don't see serious harm in CCTV. After all you shouldn't be doing anything illegal in public anyways so what's the big deal if they're CCTV installed.
- ToastedFart, on 07/08/2009, -0/+16How can you justify that? You're right about lying and raping not being the same, but lying about someone raping you? The accused could be put away for 10 years and loose everything, even though they were innocent. So shouldn't she, in effect, for trying to put an innocent man away for 10 years, receive that same sentence? What's the logic behind putting her away for a year?
- Elderon, on 07/08/2009, -0/+16Emotecontrol I think I have to disagree with you slightly, particularly with this part
"Public cameras are a public good. They protect us from the police, and they protect us from messed up trainwrecks like this woman."
I guess my big issue is it really depends on who runs and has control of the cameras doesn't it? Protection from the police? that only works so long as the police cooperate and allow access to camera footage otherwise they could just as well beat you uncouncious in the street and there would be no evidence. - wizzroom, on 07/08/2009, -2/+17Craigslist: Where unlucky guys try to get lucky among fat, ugly, and/or psychotic women.
- jrburkh, on 07/08/2009, -2/+17Worse, in my opinion, is:
12 months in jail vs. "So I heard Gary Wood was arrested for rape...:" for a lifetime - inactive, on 07/08/2009, -1/+16no... its much worse. Her single lie could have cost him his future and his life. Personaly I agree with him. She should have gotten more.
- inactive, on 07/08/2009, -1/+16i think getting raped isn't as bad as being sent to prison for 10 years for something you didn't do and then get raped hundreds of times in prison
- ACiDGRiM, on 07/08/2009, -0/+14This is wrong. The law shouldn't make ANY assumptions, it should be as objective as possible.
- oda1, on 07/09/2009, -1/+15Are you... are you suggesting what I think you're suggesting?
- InfinitySnatch, on 07/08/2009, -2/+16No.
- ell0bo, on 07/09/2009, -1/+15Yeah, it sucks. Happened to a friend of mine in college. We were all really tight friends, I was a freshman. He, a girl, and I were drinking at his place one night, I said I was going home, she said she didn't want to so I just left her there (it was a fraternity house, but I was cool with the guys). Next day she came back, everyone was yelling at me for leaving her there, and she told us he raped her. I went there to kill him, he claimed he did nothing, it wasn't pretty. She refused to go to the cops, everyone hated me for leaving her there, and I stopped going to the house.
4 years later, I ran into her at a bar. I had long fallen out with that crowd after that, and she drunkenly confessed to me she made it up about him raping her. She had slept with him, but didn't want everyone to think she was a slut so she told us he raped her. God that made me feel horrible in so many ways. - diggapleeeze, on 07/08/2009, -1/+15for pain and suffering sure. Maybe loss of wages if he missed work.
- gantz9x, on 07/08/2009, -0/+13This is why men turn into women.
- EddiePotato, on 07/08/2009, -0/+13@JoeSpaceTime: Please point out the "numbers" that exhale99 made up, and please provide statistical substantiation for your own claim. All exhale said was "it makes you wonder", which it does, whereas you're claiming to know something for certain that you can't.
