- TexMexRex, on 02/19/2009, -24/+476His eyes should be surgically removed, and donated to someone who can use them.
- toastjam, on 02/19/2009, -18/+381"I don't want to blind him for revenge," Bahrami said in her parents' Tehran apartment. "I'm doing this to prevent it from happening to someone else."
But then:
"I told the judge I want an eye for an eye," Bahrami said. "People like him should be made to feel my suffering."
So which is it? Sounds like revenge to me. - qream, on 02/19/2009, -63/+348I guess she's never heard of Ghandi.
"An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind" - rwallen, on 02/19/2009, -13/+263They should blind him with science instead.
- inactive, on 02/20/2009, -5/+209I don't think the acid did anything for her sense of smell.
- SQLDigger, on 02/19/2009, -2/+200Like maybe the victim... that would be sweet justice indeed.
- contradictator, on 02/20/2009, -5/+140Her lawyer, Harvey Dent, declined to comment... twice.
- videodroner, on 02/20/2009, -22/+130Get acid thrown on your face leaving you blind, and then let's see if you'll quote Ghandi.
- nutsackninja, on 02/19/2009, -17/+124Finally a girl that would even find me attractive.....
- inactive, on 02/20/2009, -12/+93Yeah, a figure of speech that directly applies to this incident.
- mydickhertz, on 02/20/2009, -6/+82Yeah, he said a bunch of treat others like you wanna be treated. Apparently, this guy wants a bunch of acid on his face.
- twiztidsinz, on 02/20/2009, -2/+77violence used by women.
- Jarrane, on 02/20/2009, -7/+82What do you mean it doesn't apply here? Revenge punishment is exactly what he was talking about.
- YoWhatDaFuxUp, on 02/20/2009, -14/+85If he would have raped her they would have stoned her to death instead..
- SmooveO, on 02/20/2009, -17/+88Her attacker obviously lives life by a different set of rules. Make him suffer by HIS own rules.
- andyb747, on 02/19/2009, -22/+87what form of violence isn't justified in Islamic law...?
- njunderground, on 02/20/2009, -0/+64don't be so hard on yourself. you sound like a real catch, nutsack ninja.
- DurtyJ, on 02/20/2009, -17/+81***** awesome. The only sadness is that he gets just drops in his eyes. It should be delivered via water balloon.
- shaka776, on 02/19/2009, -18/+81To horrendously paraphrase one of my favorite moments in Kill Bill Vol. 2:
That woman deserves her revenge and [he] deserves to [be blinded]. - Asheis, on 02/20/2009, -23/+86I don't care what any of you say, it's horrifying what he did to her, and he deserves this punishment. You throw acid on someone and scar/blind them for life, why SHOULDN'T you experience that pain?
- kismetropolis, on 02/19/2009, -1/+63That's actually a creative way to interpret it. I doubt it'll go over like that, but what a compassionate angle on such violence.
- KineticShampoo, on 02/20/2009, -3/+57This isn't Minority Report.
- czeman, on 02/20/2009, -15/+67"We cannot condone such cruel punishment," wrote one blogger. "To willingly inflict the same treatment on a person under court order is a violation of human rights."
What about HER rights? He knew damn well what he was doing. Splash acid in his face already. In fact, let her be the one to do it!!! - JDoorjam, on 02/20/2009, -9/+58... eh, actually, it probably will.
- Jak08, on 02/20/2009, -1/+47but 3 lefts do
- sockpuppets, on 02/20/2009, -1/+45Why do you end every comment you make with !!! ?
- SnuKs, on 02/20/2009, -1/+44Why aren't you running our justice system?!
- neonoodle, on 02/20/2009, -6/+46Whatever doesn't kill you just makes you stranger.
- virtualonliner, on 02/20/2009, -0/+34I know it is nice that you guys know him and his principle. But it will be lot better if you get his name right too. It is Gandhi, not Ghandi.
- jonnywoot, on 02/20/2009, -1/+34But two Wrights make an airplane.
- LocalDocal, on 02/20/2009, -2/+35Wow, I was prepared to go in here, and say I completely support her regardless of what other diggers/bloggers think, but you got a much better idea. Even if eye transplant isn't possible, perhaps his eyes could be donated to medical research.
Thumbs up for you. - Ghoztt, on 02/19/2009, -19/+52Ghandi was indeed talking about forgiveness.
May humanity come out of this dark era of reasoning and hate. - pilot3033, on 02/20/2009, -0/+32In general, if you see something bracketed in a quote, it was added by the editor (aka, the person relaying the quote to you) usually to clarify or shorten the quote. In this case it's been done to repurpose the quote to fit the article. You'll most often see this when a quote is taken out of the context of a larger paragraph/speech, where a bracketed word will add context, or change a pronoun to fit the new sentence syntax. For example you might see "[his mom]" is place of "her." An editor may also use brackets to fix grammar, or at the end of a sentence "[sic]" to indicate that an error in the previous sentence was made by the person speaking/writing rather than the editor reproducing it for you.
- YME1280, on 02/19/2009, -14/+45What's fair is fair.
- Haoie, on 02/20/2009, -1/+31I don't think it works by removing a whole eye.
Corneas can be transplanted though. - djchoongjae, on 02/20/2009, -2/+31I don't think she'd react too well to the idea of wearing her attacker's eyes for the rest of her life...
I do agree that his eyes should be surgically removed. THEN they can pour acid on his face. - diggduggjoe, on 02/20/2009, -3/+31I would agree. They scream about his rights, yet he got a trial. She had no trial, he violated her rights. Is it cruel and unusual punishment? Who cares? It is not America and they can do whatever they wish in their country. I really don't think she is looking at revenge. I believe she wants to make an example of him. The Muslim world has more of these types of actions due to their culture. This is a way for the woman to fight for all women in her country by demanding he pays for his crime. I like the surgical removal idea. It doesn't have to be painful. The best part of this punishment is it will last as long as her suffering will. He gave her a life sentence, this will issue he gets one, too.
- paulsabo, on 02/20/2009, -12/+39If she wants him blinded, I say blind the son bitch
- DBeta, on 02/20/2009, -1/+28Or, if in a chain, it leaves everyone with one eye, except maybe the last guy, but that's cool, because eye-patches rock and depth perception is over rated.
- DephexTwin, on 02/20/2009, -0/+26Drat.
- v3rtex7740, on 02/20/2009, -7/+31Most civilized countries have no death penalty. If an act is illegal for a citizen to commit, it's best that it applies to government as well.
- jitterbits, on 02/20/2009, -5/+29Stranger? lol
- CVL4317, on 02/20/2009, -2/+25Gandhi doesn't say that the eye cannot be transplanted though
- LibertyPrime, on 02/20/2009, -3/+25Justice through violence isn't restricted to one religion or religion altogether.
- inactive, on 02/20/2009, -2/+23He rescinded the Old Testament ways of eye for an eye. It is written in Matthew 5:38-39 - 38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ 39 But I say to you, Do not resist the one who is evil. But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.
- makkaveli19, on 02/20/2009, -1/+22THAT WAS A DIFFERENT COUNTRY.
please get your ***** right. iran doesn't stone women to death for rape. ***** - ortucis, on 02/20/2009, -2/+22I have heard of Gandhi, never heard about Ghandi.
- inactive, on 02/20/2009, -7/+27So, by your logic, its ok to change a horse midstream, because the little quote doesn't apply to the real situation?
- djbon2112, on 02/20/2009, -1/+21The sentence is one drop in each eye. I'd throw a beaker in his face.
- hoisonsauce, on 02/20/2009, -2/+20Like...her?
