- lussonaturae, on 05/17/2008, -3/+35Sad, but hey 94 is a good life. His wines have always delivered on taste, body and price. Although I haven't purchased his more expensive varieties, the affordable ones in the grocery stores have never let me down.
- coop925, on 05/17/2008, -2/+19I have to agree with lussonaturae - great wines, great prices... he came to the restaurant I worked at 5 years ago and opened a bottle of the first year Opus One for a tasting... what a treasure. Rest in peace - I hope the family keeps the dream alive.
- ucdbunny, on 05/17/2008, -1/+15RIP, hes contributed a lot to my university hes pretty popular here.
- mrbradg, on 05/17/2008, -5/+18You're a douche bag.
- SubaruPowah, on 05/17/2008, -1/+12As much acid reflux as this man has caused me, I couldn't stop drinking his wine. It was entirely too delicious. You lead a great reason for me to drink wine. Hope to see you in the afterlife good sir.
- nienhulm, on 05/17/2008, -0/+11I raise my glass and tip my head in appreciation of his wine.
"Wine is bottled poetry."
Robert Louis Stevenson - unicronband, on 05/17/2008, -2/+9More than the wines he made, the overall impact on the world's wine growing industry he had was enormous. His top shelf wines brought due respect to California's offerings. His moderately priced wines appealed to people who before had no interest in wine. Because of that, wine is more affordable, available and better quality than ever. You'll be missed Bobby.

"I'm supposed to spit it out, but NO WAY JOSE! I'm not spitting this stuff out. It tastes like fruit!"

- seandfeeney, on 05/17/2008, -1/+6I wasn't much of a wine fan until I found his wine - RIP you will be missed
- rtoo, on 05/17/2008, -0/+4damn i bet that dude chugged a ton of wine and he still lived to be 94. Id say thats proof enough wine is good for you.
- itsbob, on 05/17/2008, -0/+4Good man, great wine, sad loss
- finalmillenium, on 05/17/2008, -0/+4My sister used to work for the Mondovi and Sons Winery. She said that they ran a great company and loved their employees.
May he Rest In Peace. - ebjonerud, on 05/17/2008, -0/+4Seriously...our new performing arts center is awesome.
- garnetstreet, on 05/17/2008, -0/+4I got to bartend a party for Robert Mondavi at Copia in Napa Valley 4 or 4 1/2 years ago for a company called Patina. Robert gave a speech about though being near or in his 90's, a lifelong sense of curiosity had kept him young, as life can be endless opportunity for learning and sharing. He seemed very grateful for his good fortune and eager for new adventures. I was impressed and inspired.
Safe travels Robert, cheers to your continuing journey. - KingGorilla, on 05/17/2008, -1/+5GOOOO AGS!!!!
- wakkow, on 05/17/2008, -1/+5go aggies!
- ftw420, on 05/17/2008, -0/+3Proof that wine can give you a good long life!
- Spoomeister, on 05/18/2008, -0/+3Apparently his casket is oaky, with subtle undertones of cedar, smoke and blackberry.
- sliderocity, on 05/17/2008, -0/+3He'll be particularly missed here in Davis. His legacy and generosity will live on in the beautiful Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts, and the soon-to-be-completed Mondavi Institute for Wine and Food Science.
- duggdowncatisad, on 05/17/2008, -1/+3I don't know about you, but when I was in university we couldn't afford wine, we drank mostly Keystone and Beast.
- rjpaulisick, on 05/17/2008, -3/+5Yes, Robert Mondavi lead a great life resulting in affordable and great-tasting wines...but the family history and turmoil within leaves me anxious to see how the Mondavi family will react to this, from a business perspective.
- grapfx, on 05/17/2008, -0/+2I hope his stepson gets to finally share in his fortune.
- PopcornDave, on 05/17/2008, -0/+1Fair enough. :)
- Chordinator, on 05/17/2008, -0/+1I have long buried your comments. well, not really... but I'll start with this one.

funny - inactive, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1Is Shawn Mondavi okay?
- inactive, on 05/17/2008, -1/+2You are assuming, incorrectly, that I put in more than a cursory effort.
So, put a cork in this thread, it's done... - tylerjohnson, on 05/17/2008, -0/+1One of the last times I saw him, he came into Bouchon, and he couldn't even drink his tea, he had his Asian woman doing everything for him, pouring the water, etc. Great man, innovator, brilliant winemaker, couldn't drink tea.
- inactive, on 05/17/2008, -0/+1Stop WINEING about it.
(RIP) - spankaccount, on 05/17/2008, -0/+1I was able to visit his Opus One vineyard about 5 years ago and grab a few bottles. We will see how they are in 20 or more years from now. The California wine industry owes a lot to this man.
- whalt, on 05/17/2008, -4/+5Another tragic death linked to alcohol.
- frozenwookie, on 05/17/2008, -0/+1i think in his memory, next diggnation they need to be drinking some Mondavi wine!
- duggdowncatisad, on 05/17/2008, -0/+0Lame spammers are lame.
Don't throw your money away at a casino, buy a good bottle of wine instead. - PopcornDave, on 05/17/2008, -1/+1Oh come on now, you don't want to age him in a barrel and let him ferment?
Christ, if you're going to try, try harder. - biii, on 05/17/2008, -2/+1http://www.sacbee.com/101/story/946116.html

- cquilliam, on 05/17/2008, -3/+2Damn, he almost made it to 1.0
