- Wisgary, on 07/19/2009, -1/+15No one. There are too many, and even the few that rise above the crap are going to be numerous and have a limited audience. It's not a similar environment at all to the one WC worked in.
- thundacatblue, on 07/19/2009, -1/+12That's like asking who will be the Johnny Depp of reality shows.
- michaelpinto, on 07/19/2009, -1/+9Cronkite was the public face of a very LARGE news organization, behind him was a huge staff and a national television network. Even taking into account the scale of things, CBS News in the 60s would make something like the Huffington Post look tiny. Also blogs and even cable TV are about owning a small niche audience — back in the day CBS was one of three major TV networks. Even if you came in last place in the 60s you were part of a mass media monopoly that hasn't been seen on that sort of scale since the 80s when cable started to rev up. I for one hope that the 21st Century is about many voices telling many stories rather than the "good old days".
- inactive, on 07/19/2009, -1/+8Actually the question is "Who cares who will be the Walter Cronkite of the blogosphere? Blogging is a useless art form.
- inactive, on 07/19/2009, -1/+7We don't need a Cronkite of the blogosphere.
We have jon stewart and steven colbert. - TexMexRex, on 07/19/2009, -1/+5Not Walter Cronkite. He's Dead.
- ThermiteTerrace, on 07/20/2009, -0/+3STOP SAYING 'BLOGOSPHERE'!
- sruffelman, on 07/19/2009, -0/+3I've heard that he's the most trollish person Leo Laporte has ever worked with.
- inactive, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2Walter Cronkite supported marijuana law reform. So whoever his replacement is, must follow suite.
- michaelpinto, on 07/19/2009, -1/+3I love Leo, but he was silly to think that he could mellow out the Gillmor Gang. In fact what many of us loved about the gang was that it was so uncivilized — and that includes Mike Arrington.
- Equinamin, on 07/19/2009, -0/+2so true AmyVernon. He was the voice of nations. I remember his commentaries' well, in Canada growing up.
New media is changing all our ways. All of us are Walters' in spirit of the past that many yearn for' but in the big picture(historically) was not all that great~ realistically and especially for women.
But with all people connected now
to the present day' where objectivity and freedom of speech are welcomed in our increasingly globalist
society, i think collectively' as many women do' that there are so many wonderful and thought provoking individuals, groups and globalist change agents who are committed to good blogospherin'
a team approach i guess.
Look at all those men and women around him. That is beautiful team work. - poprocksandsoda, on 07/19/2009, -1/+3Bloggers != ( Class || Honesty )
- vlmusicalsound, on 07/19/2009, -1/+3That's too sarcastic even for me.
- inactive, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2There won't be one, people get their information from too many sources for any one to parallel Walter Cronkite in popularity or influence, now a Katie Couric of the blog what the ***** ever is plausible.
- inactive, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2lulz you said blogging and art in one sentence good work.
digg. - akchrs, on 07/19/2009, -2/+3Me.
- joshuaer, on 07/19/2009, -0/+1I agree, It was one thing to jump into a new and upcoming media and bring the US into live TV news. It also helped that Cronkite was one of the only options for so long. National network news will also have 1 top person give people 20 options and most will pick one over the other. Give peopl 20 million options and no one really cares.
- AmyVernon, on 07/19/2009, -0/+1It's not a matter of longing for the good old days, it's more of a metaphorical question of who in the blogosphere might some day have the respect and, more importantly, trust that Cronkite had from his audience. And that's not a matter of the size of the organization behind you. Cronkite gained that respect and trust because he earned it.
- clyentnine, on 07/19/2009, -0/+1Juan Cole?
- AmnioticEntity, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1i always thought blogging was a mash up of the words bitch + log, so why do people take them so seriously if its nothing more than a bitch log?
