- droogieboy, on 05/13/2008, -2/+50 It's the meds.
- zen4444, on 05/13/2008, -2/+42Old people don't have to worry about all the absurd, and inconsequential ***** that is youth.
- diggB, on 05/13/2008, -0/+24I remember while I was growing up, my dad used to have a short temper and keep to himself. Now, as my dad grows older (now into his late 70's), nothing seems to perturb him. He spends a lot more time smiling and laughing at life. His marriage has never been stronger. So yeah, I can believe that with age comes happiness.
- 28dayslater, on 05/13/2008, -3/+26I'm quite sure evidence will eventually show the dead are the happiest.
- bicyclethief, on 05/13/2008, -3/+25Reminder: this study was done in the Viagra era.
- BigManOnCampus, on 05/13/2008, -0/+22It's been true for me.
My 30's are much happier than my 20's, which were better than my teens, which was better than my single-digits, which is better than not existing. - rockefeller2, on 05/13/2008, -1/+18My skateboard doesn't work well in grass.
- chanop, on 05/13/2008, -2/+20Try telling this to my neighbor. He spends his days of retirement making sure those damn skateboard punks stay off his yard
- staeiou, on 05/13/2008, -0/+16And guess what - he enjoys it.
- aladrin, on 05/13/2008, -0/+16Thank you for stating internet logic so well.
- Harelin, on 05/13/2008, -1/+14Translation: Having never experienced life as an older person, I am fully qualified to say that younger people are happier... based on my extensive lack of experience.
- Maytel, on 05/13/2008, -0/+12With that logic, you must be happy?
- EricAnderton, on 05/13/2008, -0/+9Your 30's are like your 20's with money. It's awesome.
- diggB, on 05/13/2008, -1/+9Wow. There's a lot of cynical statements here ... I'm guessing that most of them are coming from the younger crowd?
- bigmac7669, on 05/13/2008, -1/+11....who also got taxes taken away from them when THEY were younger so the school that YOU went to could be built...
We all deserver the "silver platter" when we are old after dealing with all the BS - privatejoeker, on 05/13/2008, -0/+7This is only true if you don't like your job. I know plenty of people who retired, became bored with life, and went back to work part-time.
- bosssmiley, on 05/13/2008, -1/+8Two words: half-decent pensions. They're chortling, we're boned.
- gnimsh, on 05/13/2008, -0/+8Let's see, old people don't have to go to work any more, they can spend their days reading or going for a walk, hanging out with friends or their loved ones, just doing whatever the hell they feel like doing. I think I can see why they would be happier.
- bicyclethief, on 05/13/2008, -0/+6Yeah but young people don't have to worry about incontinence.
- chanop, on 05/13/2008, -3/+15or.........I was just cracking a lame joke. You're pretty emo, aren't you?
- DrSnugglebunny, on 05/13/2008, -0/+8I used to think old age would be that way but given the way the world is going I have doubts my cynicism is going to ebb with age. Curmudgeon-itude, here I come! I'm gonna be one crotchetly mofo.
- inactive, on 05/13/2008, -0/+5viva Viagra!
- gwaggy12, on 05/13/2008, -0/+5"***** hasn't added any friends. Add them as a friend now using the link above!"
...telling. - calvmari, on 05/13/2008, -0/+4School is a confined box if you're one of the lazy tools who idly sit and absorb information. If you instead use the resources the schools make available to find information and make your own conclusions you won't feel so dissatisfied.
- inactive, on 05/13/2008, -3/+8Lighten up, Frances.
- amanilaenvelope, on 05/13/2008, -1/+6Well of course they're happy, they are always having sex.
- amanilaenvelope, on 05/13/2008, -1/+5Well your own statement is your defense mechanism at work because somebody points out a possible reason for you to be this way and all of the sudden you whip out the whole ***** conspiracy-like excuse to make your self seem like you've found the way to be "free" while all of us are mindless idiots.
so my question is : How did this hobo find his/herself on the internet? - bpetestrange, on 05/13/2008, -0/+4I'm in my middle 50s and happy. My advice? Don't believe too much that this advertising-obsessed culture tells you. I love this country, but commercial advertising is a kind of cancer that sucks the joy out of people by making them feel inadequate. Question everything. Defy classification. Anybody that is an original thinker does. The past does not equal the future. I'm sounding like Sarah Connor in Terminator 2. I love rock and roll. I go to clubs and see bands. I play Gears of War and Call of Duty 4, etc. I am very happily married. I have a fulfilling job. I write. You know? Don't fall asleep. Choose to be passionate. Happiness is about loving and being loved. You can be righteous and outrageous at any age. I think it's important to not believe everything everyone tells you. I think it's important to be assertive. I think you're happier if you've grown a pair over your lifetime, so you set boundaries with people. Hey, does this qualify as a rant? Probably. It's a happy rant. Peace out. I hate when people say that.
- dtfinch, on 05/13/2008, -3/+7Happiness is proportional to number of grandchildren.
- diggB, on 05/13/2008, -0/+4Somehow I can't imagine anyone named DrSnunnglebunny's as being crotchety ...
- inactive, on 05/13/2008, -1/+6Golden years? Why shouldn't they be? With the tyranny of the vote the elderly awarded themselves the greatest package of benefits in the history of civilization, and openly robbed America's youth in the process. The baby boom generation merits the benefits far less than their forefathers. Social Security is a ponzi scheme that must be slashed.
- jefuchs, on 05/13/2008, -0/+3I'm not old (by my standards), but I'm in my late forties. My life is freaking great. Lots of money, no debt, not caught up in dating, peer pressure, or worrying where my life will lead.
No way I'd go back to being a teenager or 20-something. - nonrate, on 05/13/2008, -2/+5This is because the older generation, the "me" generation, has amassed and kept the wealth for themselves. They know about the ***** the younger generation faces, but they don't care because they won't be around to deal with it and expect us to support them as they get even older. Ask them sometime and be surprised what you hear.
- inactive, on 05/13/2008, -0/+3That's part of the fun.
- Ender008, on 05/13/2008, -0/+4What the *****?
- bicyclethief, on 05/13/2008, -0/+3Preparation H doubles as a lubricant.
I think I've gone too far this time. - inactive, on 05/13/2008, -0/+2I'm hoping the 30s is akin to the "sophomore slump" in high school and college because even though I'm better off financially than I was in my 20s, I'm also burned out with my career and losing my drive to climb the ladder. Hopefully things will mellow out a bit in the future. Hopefully.
- bdbr, on 05/13/2008, -0/+2Everyone already should know by now, Social Security pays out more than people pay into it. That was fine after the baby boom when the population was growing, but if you're young, it'll be bankrupt at the current spending rate before you get to see any of it.
- inactive, on 05/13/2008, -0/+2Actually it's the boomers who may very well take it up the ass the most when it comes to retirement benefits. A LOT of them didn't start saving for retirement until they were in their late 40s and 50s because they assumed they'd have the fat company pensions that their parents had. I'm 37, and have been saving for my own retirement for about 10 years now. I pretty much assume Social Security will be a need-based welfare system for the elderly by the time I retire around the year 2035, so I'm not counting on getting a dime out of it.
- chanop, on 05/13/2008, -3/+5I am so programmed. Is that why you're a blind Ron Paul follower? You're fooling yourself if you think all war is going to end (like you said in a previous post) if Ron Paul were president. Or is it because I know that Arabics flew planes into the Trade Center, not the government. You're either extremely dillusional, very easily fooled, or just a complete *****-tard
- Opiate, on 05/13/2008, -0/+2No lie.
- inactive, on 05/13/2008, -0/+2Well kept secret.
- Princeamor, on 05/13/2008, -1/+3It doesn't have anything to do with you being young or old, its simply who decides to be happy, they will be a happy person forever.
- bdbr, on 05/13/2008, -0/+3Control is a big factor in happiness. Young people are often at the mercy of parents and school, and money is always tight. As we grow older we're at the mercy of responsibilities - job, family, etc. Beyond that, the external factors become less prevalent. Of course, if you're poor in the US, it sucks at pretty much any age.
- chanop, on 05/13/2008, -0/+1"There's a reason commercial planes aren't allowed to fly over most of DC..." yet they mistakenly do on a monthly basis, without getting shot down. You must not be from the Northeast
- ViperX116, on 05/13/2008, -0/+1I would be happy too if I could sit on my ass all day and not have to worry about grades or working to pay the bills.
- greeniemeani, on 05/13/2008, -0/+1We were young and wild and free
- oldcyborg, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1Altho' I don't give kids, or anyone else, a bag of *****, I fail to see where I am so much F***ing happier.... IOW, I ain't buying your *****........
