- DeskFlyer, on 01/25/2009, -5/+99I bet Wal-Mart still made a profit on the sale.
- ariez84, on 01/25/2009, -0/+79The Judge then sentenced her to work at Walmart for another 20 years.
- d2002, on 01/24/2009, -2/+77If you're going to steal at least don't steal ***** crap.
- noupsell, on 01/24/2009, -3/+52every employee of Walmart or any other retail store pays the price for stupid ***** like this by having to go through more hoops by loss prevention (which have many ways to track theft) Some of the highest theft #'s in retail are internal and many of the crimes are by jaded, low paid employees, that bought the brainwashing when they were new hires, that they were working for a corporation with a heart, only to quickly find out the company had no soul. Somehow this justifies it in their minds, but they either forget or didn't realize they signed on to be automatons.
- haikuFU, on 01/24/2009, -0/+46This happened all the time at the Wal-mart I worked at in high school. The one guy they busted for it was the son of a judge, and he got 20 hours of community service for it. He had several laptops at home, thousands of CD's and hundreds of Sega Genesis games.
He would just change the price using a Telxon unit, go through the checkout, and then change the price back from the Telxon in his car. - Tyrghast, on 01/25/2009, -3/+40Hey in this day and age, shouldn't they be thankful to even have jobs? I mean *****, I was working at a cell phone repair warehouse until I got let go this week...
- Ymeg, on 01/25/2009, -4/+41Not getting paid a decent wage justifies stealing?
- KingPsyz, on 01/25/2009, -0/+30this is news?
seriously... this happens every day in every city in just about every retail outlet. From discounts for friends, maybe an extra coupon for a regular, manager's taking home product... ***** it's a daily occurance. I busted a guy at Blockbuster who was a manager and would ask me to take the trash out every day and he'd always "lock up" the gate at night for the dumpster... only to find out he was tossing 75% of the SNES and Genesis carts in the garbage when they were shipped in and marking them as undelivered.
I saw the carts in the bag one morning and asked why we were tossing games, if they were overstocked I'd buy some... And it all came crashing down. - aufte, on 01/25/2009, -2/+31Just because someone makes a profit off it, doesn't mean you deserve more work for a menial job that doesn't require any kind of education or skill.
- blitzeh, on 01/25/2009, -1/+29I work at Walmart and my starting wage was $8.20. Factor that in with benefits, stock options, and profit sharing that gives up to $400 a quarter to every employee, and thats incredibly fair. Maybe you should get your facts straight, Walmart is a hell of a lot more fair to me than Target was.
- FurtThePirate, on 01/25/2009, -3/+29Not justifies but causes.
- kentifer, on 01/24/2009, -0/+26When i worked at walmart, there was a pricing error on an area rug.
The customer service managers were told cashiers to not accept the price it was ringing up as, and to mark it at $10 off the price listed on the shelf because of some pledge.
When one of the CSMs went on break, they bought the rug and told the cashier that they had to accept the price, as it was the one that showed up. They were given an ultimatum, to return the rug or get fired. They chose to be fired. - timedalkat, on 01/24/2009, -27/+52Maybe if they made a decent wage.....
- callmemorbid, on 01/25/2009, -0/+23look at what was bought.... thats the sad thing...:( cribs diapers food and household items thats sad
- inactive, on 01/25/2009, -2/+25It it no way excuses their behavior.
...but it might help explain it. - anklesnap, on 01/24/2009, -5/+27why steal at all?
- groof, on 01/24/2009, -6/+28I thought this was going to be an Onion article...
- zanyjim, on 01/24/2009, -0/+18I always wondered if you could get away with this....
- Ramenhood, on 01/25/2009, -3/+18Walmart pays pretty well for the work, plus benefits and stock options (one of the only stocks that have held steady)
- saltydawkins, on 01/25/2009, -0/+15Amazing reception on the Telxon! I could barely get them to work reliably from inside the building, let alone in the parking lot.
- lisaawesome, on 01/25/2009, -0/+14Target pays shiiiiit. It cracks me up when people bitch about WalMart and turn around and shop at
- choppergirl, on 01/24/2009, -0/+14http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cHcajIRcBvA
- ariez84, on 01/25/2009, -0/+13The Judge then agrees, and order her to pay back the amount she stole. Totaling an amount of $547.50. The defendant then replied: "But your honor, that's the same as working 20 years for Walmart". The Judge then LOL.
- greenlight2001, on 01/25/2009, -0/+13Theft is awesome!
- lisaawesome, on 01/25/2009, -0/+12Or they just don't give a ***** at all to begin with.
- cubicledrone, on 01/25/2009, -0/+11Embezzlement my ass. $450 is petty theft. Why the ***** is this anywhere near the news?
- lisaawesome, on 01/25/2009, -0/+11At 20 bucks each the jeans would be 140. The crib could easily be 100. That right there is nearly half the 500 dollars. It doesn't say how many of the pizza, air fresheners, etc he purchased nor does it say what brands. You can pay 7 dollars for 1 frozen pizza so it is not at all hard to get 250 dollars out of the remaining items.
- leif77, on 01/25/2009, -0/+11I'm getting 10.50/hr there... while it's still tough to live on... at least I'm not making minimum wage... granted I'm an hourly supervisor... i think the job is worth a little more than that but they could replace me in a second so i don't make a fuss...
- kenhatesemos, on 01/25/2009, -3/+14walmart employees get paid pretty well for the work they do, dont be ignorant.
- ShainRules, on 01/25/2009, -1/+12Dugg for clever title.
- brandita, on 01/25/2009, -1/+11Well at least the have principles.
- Emachine, on 01/25/2009, -2/+12On my last day at Best Buy I gave away HDMI cables at cost (aka at 1/10th the price)...
- Ajajadude, on 01/25/2009, -0/+10...that pretty much sums up working in retail.
- gbudavid, on 01/24/2009, -2/+12Where is she when I need Her...
- Phazoni, on 01/25/2009, -0/+9What idiots. You have to do it in small increments so no one notices. Blatant stuff is always caught. Go and watch Office Space or Superman 3. :)
- mongo22, on 01/24/2009, -3/+12Wow, that's pretty ballsy. There are better ways to make money.
Side note: It is amazing that the Walmart workers don't get paid more or atleast get proper uniform attire. - ColeChampagne, on 01/25/2009, -1/+10Dugg for title
- jjason1985, on 01/25/2009, -1/+9"Family Pack" of beer? haha
Even worse, the accused were stealing diapers, etc. I hope that child wasn't going to help with that Family pack. - RedSepher, on 01/25/2009, -1/+9And people wonder why people are losing their jobs...
- purzzzell, on 01/25/2009, -0/+8If you're running a retail outlet, it's not "IF" there's employee theft, it's "how much is there?" and "can I catch the worst offender(s)?"
- distressless, on 01/25/2009, -0/+8What Purzzell said is correct I worked there while going to college, I worked 39 hours a week, and benefits are available, if you can pay for them. I didn't know anyone that wasn't management that could.
- ariez84, on 01/25/2009, -0/+8Her lawyer then used the 8th Amendment to defend her, citing: "Prohibition of cruel punishment".
- themastersb, on 01/25/2009, -0/+8I know I'd like to have a job.
- brandita, on 01/25/2009, -4/+11Wow you have a friend that steals...how cool!
/sarcasm - purzzzell, on 01/25/2009, -4/+11You lost me at "benefits".
Wal-Mart is known for not giving employees full time (by an hour or so) so they DON'T need to provide benefits. - aufte, on 01/25/2009, -12/+19Do you really deserve a 'decent' wage for stocking shelves at Wal-Mart?
- Swivelstick, on 01/25/2009, -0/+7Chappy your intelligence does make you look ignorant.
- ohiomama, on 01/25/2009, -0/+6that was my initial thought too. this lady didn't steal movies or CDs. seems like she was trying to get by. kinda like the guy who steals bread to feed his family (though on a bigger scale, but still) :(
