- fluidfoundation, on 02/07/2008, -0/+23He shouldnt have said "Thank you, come again!". They did.
- sgr215, on 02/07/2008, -0/+22You would think getting a gun stuck in your face once would at least get you the rest of the day off. I'm going to take a wild guess here and say his boss is an ***** too.
- SenorCoconut, on 02/07/2008, -0/+20unlucky for the second robber as well
- sarazen, on 02/07/2008, -3/+17Dare I say, that is a bad neighborhood.
- juice33, on 02/07/2008, -0/+7There's gotta be better stores to rob nowadays, convenience stores are way too cliche
- Asianwaste, on 02/07/2008, -0/+7This guy's got nothing. There was this ferry to Jamaica. Now... there's 2 sides to Jamaica. The ones you see on the post cards which is the tourist friendly spot, and the ones behind the scenes which are high in crime and not too kindly to whitey. Guess which side of the island our ferry gets off?
Anyways, my friend tried to make his way through the wrong side of the island to get to the tropical paradise he all know and love. He gets mugged and beaten down. So he decides to make his way to the nearest police station. Gets mugged on the way to the station too. Then he decides, ***** it. I'm going back. On his way back to the ferry he gets mugged again. Luckily the ferry was still there because he was mugged THREE TIMES IN 1 HOUR. He came back looking quite ***** up. God only knows what would've happened if he had to spend the night at the docks :P. - runninmac, on 02/07/2008, -1/+8Oddly enough, I was literally just wondering if there would ever be any news from good old Grand Rapids to make it on to Digg... I wasn't expect this to be GR's big debut!
- sparkler, on 02/07/2008, -0/+6Geez so much for the old saying "lighting never strikes the same place twice." I really hope this guy bought a lotto ticket.
- simpranos, on 02/07/2008, -0/+6"I wasn't even supposed to be here today"
- mal1964, on 02/07/2008, -0/+5He gets 25% every time his friends rob him.
- tlo182, on 02/07/2008, -0/+4FTA: "Gutierrez said he has no plans to quit his job at the store because he has bills to pay and a wife and children to support."
Kind of hard to DO that when you're constantly staring down the barrel of a gun emptying your wallet! - LukeBK, on 02/07/2008, -0/+3I live in Grand Rapids and the funny thing is this is not one of the bad areas in town. When I was in college I worked at the gas station next door to this one for about 6 months and never got held up.
- Hangly, on 02/07/2008, -0/+3Doesn't Michigan have like the highest unemployment in the country right now or something?
- enigma55, on 02/07/2008, -0/+3Yea, you get into the place and find somone already robbed the place. All the risk for no money.
- Jeffler, on 02/07/2008, -0/+3With his luck the boss was the 2nd robber
- Asvetic, on 02/07/2008, -0/+3FTA, He gave the robbers what they asked for, is conveniently open Sunday evenings and located (according to the Google Map) on W. Fulton St. and he doesn't plan on quitting... sounds like he's a glutton for punishment.
- Tamant, on 02/07/2008, -0/+2wow what are his chances of being robbed again?...oh wait
- jmpeagle, on 02/07/2008, -0/+2you want life to be zero-sum? So what if something really good happens to you like winning the lottery...do you then think it is fair for you wife and kids to be killed in a car crash?
- dodgejon, on 02/07/2008, -0/+2Grand Rapids is second in size only to Detroit, but that will change as everyone actually moves out of the city of detroit to the burbs. Named MONEY magazines best places to live http://money.cnn.com/magazines/moneymag/bplive/200 ...
- billbillbilly, on 02/07/2008, -0/+2a lotto ticket? you think someone who gets a gets robed twice has good luck
- danevahey, on 02/07/2008, -0/+2cant quit his job cause of his kids and wife. gotta feel for the guy
- theuber1337, on 02/07/2008, -0/+2Northwest GR is a little sketchy.. but I wouldn't say bad. I mean.. I park my car a few blocks south, but I'll walk those streets any day, the bums are friendly too. But I grew up in the murder capital of Michigan in the 90's, so my idea of a bad town is different.
- inactive, on 02/07/2008, -0/+2That would be one really really bad day in ones' life. I hope no one goes through it.
- INDOAZZ, on 02/07/2008, -0/+2Better Luck tomorrow.
- sparky77, on 02/07/2008, -0/+2huh? What the hell are you talking about? This happened in Grand Rapids, Michigan, not Grand Rapids, Minnesota.
And yes, Grand Rapids is a nice city. I live 30 minutes from there. - crodragn, on 02/07/2008, -0/+1Risk your life over convenience store level of money? I'll pass, thanks
- spyd3rweb, on 02/07/2008, -0/+1And thats why I moved out of Grand Rapids 20 years ago...
- manitoba98xp, on 02/08/2008, -0/+1First: that would hardly be zero-sum. And secondly, I was kidding. World peace and wealth for all would be nice. :)
- inactive, on 02/07/2008, -0/+1Tomorrow will be the most beautiful day in Raymond K. Hessel's life.
- aakashtuli, on 02/07/2008, -0/+1Thats called some bad luck
- molecool, on 02/07/2008, -0/+1Man, I would have quit after the first time.
- nsummy, on 02/07/2008, -0/+1That site is the biggest advertisement I've ever seen. More words are dedicated to ads than to the actual story!
- manitoba98xp, on 02/07/2008, -0/+1Life should be zero-sum. For every bit of bad luck, you should get some good luck. Sadly, life is not such.
- orbingpunk, on 02/07/2008, -1/+2Little? Grand Rapids is one of the largest cities in Michigan!
- gordonp, on 02/07/2008, -0/+1Here's a better version:
http://www.wzzm13.com/news/news_article.aspx?story ... - mucko, on 02/07/2008, -0/+1"I wasn't even supposed to be here today!" -- Dante Hicks
- RoshanK, on 02/07/2008, -0/+1I can imagine what was going through his mind the second time, "Not this ***** again".
- blastin311, on 02/07/2008, -0/+1I hear ya! I am from GR. The 7-11 next to the jail used to get robbed monthly.
- DoodleMaster, on 02/07/2008, -1/+1but not in minnesota
- inactive, on 02/07/2008, -1/+1I think he needs to rethink what he wants to do in life and go work Burger King.
- joshua5, on 02/07/2008, -1/+1dugg for google maps
- NavajoJoe, on 09/23/2008, -0/+0Maybe he should move to a safer part of town. Being with the foreclosures the way they are:
http://www.marketgrandrapids.com - stone2020, on 02/07/2008, -2/+26-1-6! Twice as bad as 3-1-3.
- dailyapplecrisp, on 02/07/2008, -1/+1maybe the robber tried to launder the money and the intermediary got the same idea as the first guy.
- Churbs, on 02/07/2008, -2/+2when i went to look at colleges with my sister (hope college, near Grand Rapids), I saw more sketchy people on one block then in east Cleveland.
- digindrivefast, on 02/07/2008, -1/+1I was going to ask how many gas stations Grand Rapid has!!
- nitrojunky24, on 02/08/2008, -1/+1why do people insist on holding up convince stores? not like they have a lot of money or anything? I mean go big or go home!
- Battleloser, on 02/07/2008, -1/+1Get a gun, shoot the bad guys.
- DoodleMaster, on 02/07/2008, -2/+1and yes I'm from Minnesota....
- kittybit83, on 02/07/2008, -2/+1I actually live only about an hour or so away from grand rapids, And it's actually a very nice little community. I've once considered moving there myself.
