- IbnDigg, on 10/19/2007, -17/+351No wonder the Iraqis hate our troops
- Steel_Blue, on 10/12/2007, -20/+185Yea but for every one like that, there's one like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E3sxop1-PkI&NR - ZenMojo, on 10/12/2007, -9/+160American accent, standard US camo, American bottled water.
What a group of *****.
Maybe that's why they do this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sdpoiazTyDc&NR - Eleo, on 10/12/2007, -7/+130Based on the accent, I'd imagine he was American.
- bashar129, on 10/12/2007, -3/+108I can see the FOX headlines now...
"US troops send relief aid to Iraqi children!!!" - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -25/+123The guy playing football in that above youtube clip is British -
1) Americans can't play real football and don't have that kind of ball skills
2) The guy is holding a SA80 style rifle, not a M16 - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+84Having fun by treating malnourished children like animals? What kind of a sociopathic prick do you have to be to get your jollies like that?
- Recuso, on 10/12/2007, -11/+88Honestly. I can't beleive how these soldiers acted. It's infuriating -- "not in my name" indeed. America's reputation is being made worse daily becauseof the war and actions like these.
Sad thing is I believe I can hear one of the children yell "irmi!" which'd be arabic for "throw it!" - SmokedL, on 10/12/2007, -9/+87@ZenMojo
Isn't it sweet how they complain about not getting permission to kill the kids that were throwing rocks at them? He literally rants about not being allowed to kill these small children.
Let me repeat that, he wants to kill small children so as not to let the small stones they are able to throw damage his truck.
Wonderful. - BalsamLane, on 10/12/2007, -8/+85What an *****! So much for winning the hearts and minds.
- SpanishBrowne, on 10/12/2007, -3/+72An alternate title for this article - "The birth of a terrorist'. Nice job america.
- m0tbaillie, on 10/12/2007, -10/+77Don't be so utterly naive. This is the US Army, not the US Navy SEALS or some other elite force - these ***** sound like they're fresh out of high school (and most likely are, judging but their actions). They're not walking on water, they're losers that graduated from the lower half of their class, probably had little to no ambitions, and decided to "go waste them some a-rabs" by joining the army.
There's a difference between joining up and putting on a uniform to serve your country and being a good man with morals and integrity - a soldier that best represents America and can be looked up to - and being some punk ass ***** that joins that army on whim out of high school because he a) either has no other options (***** off in high school), or little to no ambitions. Judging by his actions, it does not surprise me in the least. Little things like this go a long way to exhibit one's true level of moral fiber (or lack thereof).
Disgusting, utterly ***** disgusting. - Phatt138, on 10/12/2007, -5/+71Shiftt - "those same kids throw rocks and stones at them when they drive by
what do you expect?"
I'll tell you what I expect:
I expect trained US Military personnel to have the moral fortitude to rise above mocking and punishing small children for their increasingly justifiable dislike for American occupation.
Those kids are less than 10 years old. It wouldn't be 'okay' for some 18 year-old punk in the streets to treat children like this, much less someone who wears a gun and represents the ethics of his entire country.
These guys need to be dishonorably discharged. They're obviously more concerned with impressing one another than they are with doing their jobs. I understand that troops need to blow off some steam, but this isn't the way to do it. Netroid had it right: this is dehumanization, and it's that very lack of respect for human life and welfare that leads to the horrific instances of abuse we've seen from American soldiers in Iraq. Of course, one can hardly expect more from a military so desperate for recruits that it takes just about anyone who's willing to go 'kill a few A-rabs.' - scottylist, on 10/12/2007, -14/+80America treating the rest of the world like dogs, this is news?
- JustinT9669, on 10/12/2007, -3/+66Sad...the last kid running for the water didn't get it. :(
- Renuvian, on 10/12/2007, -7/+66Didn't sound like much of a British accent to me. Or Polish. Can't forget Poland.
- tafkase7en, on 10/12/2007, -4/+60You have got to be kidding me. That is sick.
That just ruined my day.. - N3wtR0ckn13, on 10/12/2007, -6/+59I hope the press gets wind of this. Terrible.
- CandidateZero, on 10/12/2007, -5/+56I don't think Americans mistake their own troops. But as long as you're questioning that, stiasssiac, why don't you question if that was a truck they were riding in the back of, or if it was made of metal?
Suffice it to say, that dude on tape is an *****. One can only hope he's in the minority. - jonathan190, on 10/12/2007, -5/+54Such stupid behavior on the part of the troops! Why would you act like that? I mean, they really need that water and they just tire those kids out by frigging dangling the bottle right in their faces. That's just ridiculous behavior.
- steenbean18, on 10/12/2007, -3/+50Wow...that seriously made me cry. To think of what a terrible place those little kids have to grow up in to begin with is awful enough, but having the people who are supposed to be there helping them tease them like that is just sickening. No little kid should ever have to live in a place where their lives are in danger every day. Kids are innocent. Those little boys did nothing to deserve that. That clip makes me feel incredibly ashamed of the few men/women in our military who still don't have a conscience. (Before you digg me down for crying...I'm a girl, and there's nothing wrong with feeling compassion for other people)
- whereisian, on 10/12/2007, -4/+49it just gets harder and harder to support the troops when they behave like spoiled children wielding advanced weaponry.
- sugartru64, on 10/12/2007, -6/+51Did you listen to the guy talk?
They are without a doubt US troops. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+40Jackasses. Just give the kids some damn water. It's...a bottle of water.
I know not all our troops are like this, but there are certainly some dishonorable asses over there. - sonictruth, on 10/12/2007, -9/+47We support your war of terror!
- redthirteen, on 10/12/2007, -8/+43What a bunch of dicks !!
- JoeKickass, on 10/12/2007, -1/+36I logged in for the sole purpose of burying your sorry ass...
- reddevil3, on 10/12/2007, -2/+36*Anger and sadness*
- netdroid9, on 10/12/2007, -7/+41@shiftt: It shows they're pretty much dehumanized in the eyes of the troops. The next step'll be rape, or something of the like.
- dire, on 10/12/2007, -3/+35Just so people know, the military men shown in the video were U.S. Army uniform; those are the recent ACUs (Army Combat Uniforms) that are now being worn. The title is a bit misleading with it being a Marine.
In any case, I am a member of the U.S. Army, and just like any other huge organization/institution/government/what-have-you, amidst the majority of good people you will always have few dirtbags.
Being a soldier myself, I must say that they are a disgrace to the uniform, to the Army and to the rest of the United States armed forces. - RiotOfWords, on 10/12/2007, -4/+35American Troops, breeding a whole new generation of people that hate us.
- dagonweb, on 10/12/2007, -2/+31The same scene in the US with US state troopers throwing candy at a poor louisiana kid would be annoying. To see this here in the Iraq, occupational troops screwing around with a little kid, it is just heartwrenching. Plus the soldier in question squels positively sadistical about it, like he is poking a stick in a dying animal. I wonder what people like this do for kicks off-camera.
Off the record, I know a dutch soldier who has been in Iraq for a couple of months and he dealt with americans and british on a regular basis. Dutch and british soldiers are all highly educated. One has an engineers degree, one in his unit was university schooled. Half the americans at troop level used to be unemployed, burgerflippers, worked in postal rooms or some other unskilled labour. Most came of backward areas in the US and had rarely been to big cities, let alone a foreign country.
Standards for troop training and human development are unpleasantly low for US soldiers. This reflects in their basic humanity and morality; these are very simple mercenary soldiers, a paid career army made in large part by of simpletons and primitives. The poolicy to hire and then undertrain people like this is a policy that will be directly associated with war crimes in a couple of years.
To send retards like this into occupying a country, and poorly equipped too, is a criminal, negligent act. Those responsible should be held accountable. - burtonbe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29It's not just the American soldiers....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkXu1UVTSzU&NR - titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+27Wow and I thought the video was bad enough, but no we need an ***** to contribute too.
- Eleo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+28What really made me sad about this is the fact that this kid worked his ass off for the water and lost it to random passersby.
- SmokedL, on 10/12/2007, -4/+31"It's not just the American soldiers....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkXu1UVTSzU&NR"
That large group of soldiers coming in towards the end of that video hardly give the situation a second look. Takes quite a bit of air out of the argument that this is uncommon behavior if you ask me.
How many percent of abuses are documented through video or camera?
How many of those become public?
How many photos or videos of documented abuse, murder, rape etc have become public?
There is a documented minimum of 47,345 dead Iraqis so far http://www.iraqbodycount.org/
Few dead however are documented when the official policy is "we don't do body counts.". A more realistic number is that which a US university study came up with. They put the number of dead at approximately 655,000 Iraqis. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/6040054.stm
And there are still those that consider war to be an acceptable way to get what they want.
And these people get reelected.
The world is one seriously depressing place. - Sccatter, on 10/12/2007, -2/+29Absolutely disgusting. This kind of ***** makes me lose faith in the human race.
- tylas, on 10/12/2007, -4/+30As a Marine for 6 1/2 years and 2 years in Iraq, let's just say I have seen quite a bit of this and other stuff go on. Though I did not let this happen in my presence with my troops around, I can understand why the troops would knock themselves down so far as to ridicule little Iraqi children.
Everyone please do this for me. Instead of flashing into Youtube and watching this video clip and saying "they should be discharged!", place yourself into their position for a year, sometimes a year and a half at a stretch where this is your life - straight out of high school, then to the ass crack of the world to protect and defend for something you don't even care for - but it's your job so you do it. Month after month of political red tape and military ***** without a single day off. Constant danger of IED's, land mines, and mortars when you sleep. You are trying to protect a convoy of military and civilian trucks that drive over these IED's on a daily basis. You have a quiet majority that do care that you are trying to make a difference for them - but they are too afraid to talk because of what might happen to them or their family. And you have the "terrorist's" that just want you to have a generally bad day. You probably know of a few friends that have been cut down or blown up by these guys. In the middle, you have these kids.
If anyone has dealt with a number of children in the past you can attest with me that they can be a pain the ass. Now multiply that by 5 and then have them speak a foreign language and are mostly uneducated to boot. You have convoys going through your town everyday, so yeah throwing rocks and getting right in the front of the trucks is a good thing to do because the military can't do anything to stop them from doing it. On a side note, that is a good way to stop a convoy and then send some rockets to destroy some trucks and kidnap civilians. I know it has changed now but back when I was over if anyone came in front of a moving vehicle you were to run him over if you cannot avoid him - too much of a liability.
Now on top of all of that you have no real entertainment, yeah there's iPods and xBox's over there, but no form of release. You are on the back of a vehicle, have some water and MRE's, and then those ***** kids who have been ruining your operational security, confusing everything, and pelting rocks at you are now begging for water and food. So you play a joke on them and make them run for it, getting even and having fun your mind says.
Then the idiots put it on Youtube and a stupid couple of minutes by a damned Marine who wasn't thinking has the masses calling for their execution. I mean, I have seen staff and officers give out MRE's by chucking them at people and knocking them flat on their asses. Ahhh, poor kid.
Is it sad, yes. Should it happen, no. Does it happen, absolutely. This is war people, military is a broadsword, not a surgical tool. It is too big to control every little incident. I tried to stop as much of this as possible myself because I do not believe in it, but I think that I would have a hard time stopping a lot of you if I had you in my command.
The world is not all black and white, and emotions get in the way a lot. Get into their position before giving them too much. If you don't like it, then I take it to you to find a better answer to fix this Iraqi nation and take it to Congress. I am sure the troops don't like being there any more than you like them there, but we can't just leave now can we?
- T - Recuso, on 10/12/2007, -1/+27I wouldn't have dugg you down if you were a male either. You're right, there IS nothing wrong with feeling compassion for others and the footage was turly disheartening.
- maddonkey, on 10/12/2007, -7/+30because he has an american helmet (14 sec into vid)
and his accent when he taunting those children - samadam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23@jarland: i believe that he didn't call all the military that kind of person. In fact, he made two groups, those people, and the good people.
There are different kinds of people in every group, in every school, in every platoon. Life is like that. We can show videos of people doing good and people doing bad, but in the end, it is how the whole is percieved that matters. - heaintheavy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+27Are those flowers they are throwing, Mr. Cheney?
- IvanB, on 10/12/2007, -5/+28And someone else gets it at the end.
- karamba_kid, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21Yeah, like the they guy recording this video, or the one driving the truck.
- indicas, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21This is ***** up - and if this doesn't make it all over the news, it's even more ***** up. What the hell is wrong with these guys!
- ez12a, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21The guy playing football in that above youtube clip is British -
1) Americans can't play real football and don't have that kind of ball skills
2) The guy is holding a SA80 style rifle, not a M16
Look closely. Its an M4 with RIS rails and a vertical fore grip. The M4 magazine is clearly visible between the the two grips. He is holding the rifle by where the magazine intersects the rifle
The SA80 is a bullpup design, where the magazine is located towards the rear on the stock, allowing a longer barrel and greater accuracy. however the sa80 is plagued with problems..at least the earlier versions.
a quick search of images on google reveal that british camo is slightly darker than american, especially now that americans use the pixel-camo which looks almost faded in a way.
sorry, its an american soldier. - jawngee, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19This shouldn't be that surprising, should it?
A buddy of mine was in Somalia and told me similar stories about how they'd make the locals run after the humvees for bottles of water, only to have the soldiers toss the bottles over their heads and laugh when the bottles broke on the ground behind the villagers.
Look that behavior cannot be excused in any context, including war, and specifically from an all volunteer army. At the same time, you have a large population of under-educated kids in extremes of stress I couldn't even begin to imagine or even remotely empathize with. There are a lot of mentally ill soldiers that have been deployed that shouldn't have, fighting a type of war they aren't trained or equpped to fight. Let's not even get into how undermanned we are for the job at hand. So considering these things, this type of behavior shouldn't really surprise or shock anyone. - mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -17/+32Actually it was Evian water (French) but probably American soldiers.
This was pretty disgusting.. but it's hard to imagine the stresses these guys go through and how it plays with their moral standards .. I read stories in my paper by local marines coming home from Iraq and they speak of the how being in Iraq for over a year just completely removes nearly everything you thought you stood for.
And then they come home and try to adapt to their new reality. Some of them can't take it and either commit murder or admit themselves into a psychiatric ward. - ij00mini, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17What makes it worse is the fact that the guy holding the water is a Sargent, not some Private.
- JoeKickass, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18Hell, I wouldn't have dugg you down if you were a guy...
EDIT: Got me, Recuso = ) -
