- inactive, on 12/18/2008, -13/+51If Sarah Palin and Sex and the City are among its top moments this year, feminism is a dead movement.

- inactive, on 12/18/2008, -18/+34Feminism. lol. Aww that's precious. Now get me a beer, and while you're at it get your milkers out..
- fluidfoundation, on 12/18/2008, -13/+26Settle down, sugartits.
- inactive, on 12/18/2008, -14/+25Feminism was never cool.
- ravosava, on 12/23/2008, -1/+12If you want me to look up to female "icons" like Palin, who can't name all of the countries on the North American continent, or the whoring women from Sex and the City who used their vaginas more than their heads and cared more about shoes than real issues, than I'm going to have to say this: Worst list ever.
- ralphweaver, on 12/23/2008, -1/+10What utter crap. Buried. Palin? Obama? Bitch Mag? SitC? *gag*
- roxgod666, on 12/22/2008, -1/+9HAHA Congrats bitch you're famous.
http://womensrights.change.org/blog/view/is_digg_s ... - mommie4a, on 12/18/2008, -7/+14What a great and needed list - no doubt there could be 100 items on it. Being involved with a few of the efforts makes me feel very humble too. Thanks for taking the time to write about the contributions women together and as individuals have made in 2008. On to 2009!
- reyalp, on 12/19/2008, -0/+6Unless you're a woman who wants to marry a woman.
- satyr9us, on 12/18/2008, -6/+11This is a very thoughtful article, inclusive of a spectrum of human endeavor-- from human rights activism, to entertainment, to the profiles of women in the public sphere. The Sarah Palin item is especially interesting: it wasn't simply a matter of a woman attaining the VP nomination in a major party, but moreso the fact that individuals committed to feminist ideals rallied together against her candidacy, thus defeating the narrative that feminism is a shallow cause rooted in mere gender identity. Truly a watershed moment.
- mikbunn, on 12/18/2008, -2/+7Although I agree with you about Sex and the City being a ridiculous selection as a feminist event, you should probably read the Sarah Palin item before commenting.
- reyalp, on 12/18/2008, -16/+201. Electing President Barack Obama
buried. Obama has nothing to do with feminism, and he sure as hell doesn't deserve a place on the list higher than the release of Betancourt. - reyalp, on 12/18/2008, -5/+8Apparently we have different interpretations of stunning.
If the hierarchy isn't important, why enumerate the list? - rabidg00se, on 12/23/2008, -0/+1Dugg for rightness, almost buried when I figured out what SitC meant.
- Jempina, on 12/18/2008, -13/+13Digg. The anti-equality site? Hmm.
- dcnano, on 12/18/2008, -12/+12We're trolling posts that tout progress in equality, now? Dugg for being well-written and providing a fresh viewpoint that we normally don't get around here.

http://criggo.files.wordpress.com/2008/10/chick.jp ... - lizriz, on 12/18/2008, -15/+10I love this list. It's so inspiring, and I love how it's such a mix of different types of moments. I'm a huge Hillary Clinton supporter, but I do think that the Sarah Palin nomination had such an interesting effect on people's perspective of the sexism evident throughout the race. And throughout the Internets for that matter.
It is wonderful to think that there could easily be 100 moments on this list, big and small. - catechism1, on 12/20/2008, -11/+6Once again we're supposed to believe that the women of "Sex and the City" are the real feminist icons, while somehow like Sarah Palin is sign of a return to the dark ages. This kind of 1960s feminism only exists in Hollywood and in colleges. American women know who to look up to.
- jerseyg, on 12/18/2008, -15/+10This is a fantastic list -- its amazing to see how far we've come this year.... from Hillary to Betancourt to Sex and the City proving that women can headline a summer blockbuster
- Jempina, on 12/18/2008, -14/+8Barack Obama certainly has something to do with feminism; particularly since feminism is about equality and he represents the success of racial equality to a lot of people. He also has a stunning record of protecting women's rights - and so does Biden who sponsored the Violence Against Women Act and charted some of the most progressive language ever presented to Congress on allowing women to represent themselves in court during a domestic violence case.
And as for being higher than Betancourt - I'd stop worrying so much about the heirarchy and instead look at the list as a collective nod to great moments in the past year. - BoneStamp, on 12/18/2008, -15/+8"Do you think it's right when they try feminism when they are drunk at a party...?"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oftOCN1jkNo - Jempina, on 12/18/2008, -21/+13feminism is cool again...:)
- radcampaign, on 12/18/2008, -15/+6Great list. Thanks for sharing.
- DannytheRed, on 12/18/2008, -15/+4I like your pick for number one. Very smart. And very right.
