- Chimone, on 04/08/2009, -0/+30Poor dude
- Mutt76, on 04/08/2009, -0/+28These kids would make Skee-Lo insanely jealous...
- agentsrecord, on 04/08/2009, -0/+24"By eight he was as big as an adult but doctors didn't know what was causing his growth spurt, until they discovered a problem with his chromosomes."
A problem the NBA is very interested in understanding. - failedpimp, on 04/09/2009, -3/+26That's a HUGE bitch.
- Shaving, on 04/09/2009, -3/+16Anyone else think it's weird that this article uses inches even though it's from the UK?
- Charlie1er, on 04/09/2009, -0/+12...playing basketball with all his 13 years old friends.
- jorazzle, on 04/09/2009, -0/+11It does really suck. I was 6'6" by the time I was 13, and it really blows as a kid. You can see the comments below "ohh.. lucky!" but I would've rather been normal height.
- nixpix66, on 04/09/2009, -0/+9***** dunking, can they play Crisis?
- SimpleDiggName, on 04/09/2009, -0/+8He's so tall he can't even fit in the thumbnail.
- Absyrd2, on 04/09/2009, -0/+7Auto-basketball scholarship.
- theSAMOL, on 04/09/2009, -0/+6I dunno how great it would be to be that tall.
- Andrew33, on 04/09/2009, -0/+5but that's about it
- JFitzpatrick, on 04/09/2009, -0/+4I'm curious. These kids seem to have run away growth because of genetic makeup/body producing too much growth hormone/etc.
While most of the super tall kids I've seen are super skinny (I'm sure it takes a ton of calories to fuel that kind of upward growth) I'm intensely curious to find out what would happen if they hit the weighs -really- hard. Just imagine it... insane levels of growth hormone in your blood, plus the faster regeneration of youth on your side. You could end up with a 7ft tall dude that could go straight up Godzilla on something. - cumiciki, on 04/09/2009, -0/+4dugg for the thumbnail
- Duggan360, on 04/09/2009, -0/+4"you don't even have to get on your knees!"
- jasonboyee, on 04/09/2009, -0/+4at 12 months he was the size of a 3 year old...get the F out here!
- phishneslo, on 04/09/2009, -0/+4i think they still use inches... we americans and britts like our imperial units... i think when we tried to convert to SI, people shot the signs with their second amendment...
- netwizard, on 04/09/2009, -0/+3I'm 6'1 and regularly see kids that are in junior high ..that are my height on the train and sometimes their taller..sometimes I feel small.
- Duggan360, on 04/09/2009, -0/+3Cool Story, Bro
- shinkou, on 04/09/2009, -0/+3Can he ride the roller coaster?
- TrentDeux, on 04/09/2009, -0/+3But can they dunk?
- GiantDunk, on 04/09/2009, -2/+5I'm 6'9 and I love it. Great ice breaker when meeting new people.
- nelsonuwp, on 04/09/2009, -4/+7Holy teeth!
- p014k, on 04/09/2009, -0/+3Dugg for Peter Crouch reference!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2XBVk3TabME - bk3270, on 04/09/2009, -0/+2It's more than just size which makes you great in the NBA. He might be huge, but if he's a little ***** and doesn't have the strength to box out and out-jump (another important skill), he'd be useless on any team. College basketball would be perfect for him, but the NBA requires more than just a gigantic frame.
- Eurynom0s, on 04/09/2009, -0/+2The UK still uses a lot of old units.
- bkraj, on 04/09/2009, -2/+4"was born a normal 7lb 4oz. At 12 months he was the size of a three year-old. "
Reading comprehension isn't your strong suit is it? - anotherjack, on 04/10/2009, -0/+2These are the factors I see affecting diets and height in my lower-class immigrant neighborhood. You can see the difference between the US diet and other countries most clearly in the children of immigrants. I cannot count how many short Chinese-American or Indian or Thai or Mexican couples I have spotted wandering through the supermarkets with their six foot linebacker sons in tow.
1. plentiful food - kids dont really starve in the USA anymore...we have food stamps and any number of programs, plus places where you can eat for 3$ plus get a toy...and yes it's "junk food" but junk food has more nutrients than actual starvation!
2. better nutrition - lots of parents know to feed their kids something healthy at least some of the time, whereas my fathers generation ate butter and sugar sandwiches on white bread, moon pies and cokes for breakfast, and other freakish things, and their parents had no idea it was unhealthy.
3. nutrients - added vitamins in every damn thing.
4. meat additives - milk drinkers and meat-eaters get second-hand exposure to hormone stimulants and steroids. - Lazydriver, on 04/09/2009, -0/+2Nah, they just did 100 mph instead of 100 km.
And Americans don't like changing how they measure things. I go by metric, personally. Except miles per hour. When I think of 100, I think of fast, not slow (63mph is slowish). - inactive, on 04/09/2009, -0/+2Besides the two mentioned in the article with physical defects causing the growth, what in the world are people feeding kids these days? For my age group average height was considered pretty good, but 8th graders today are passing me up like I was born in the 1700's or something. I played volleyball last week with a 15 year old who was 6' 4"!
Must be something in the water... - ithejosh, on 04/09/2009, -0/+2Usually kids that tall are too uncoordinated and too easy to be hurt to play basketball.
- OUSooner, on 04/09/2009, -0/+2Hasheem Thabeet is 7ft 3. I think he is 20 but he was that tall at 19.
- crossmr, on 04/09/2009, -0/+2Most kids are uncoordinated.
Your body grows and you need time to adjust. These kids need more time because they're grown so much more.
Adding 2 feet is a bad idea.. adding 6 inches might not hurt properly managed. - phishneslo, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1they like inches. then invented them. something about a thumb... between the tip and the first joint. those limey bastards thought of it first... i think tom thumb was an inch tall (and don't think that the inch was measured based on his thumb, because then we would have a millimeter...)
- phishneslo, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1bST... duh.
- peteyb1313, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1whatever, better than being normal height and ugly, at least he could potentially be in the NBA and make a ton of money, if i was that tall all i would do is practice basketball, if you are that tall you dont even need to be that good.
- inactive, on 04/10/2009, -0/+1Oh my god....the good thing is he has a girl friend....
- hypocriticizer, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1That's what happens when you use digg as a excuse to not get work done. I am sorry to have pissed you off sir, but I was skimming the article.
- tod07, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1I've seen Brenden Adams while visiting my friends at CWU he is ginormous.
- baldycraig, on 04/09/2009, -2/+3Yeah, especially with the name "Crouch". That's like naming a short kid "Jump".
- Charlie117, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1The good news is he can buy all his 12 year old friends beer.
- peteyb1313, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1That's why i said potentially. It wouldnt be hard if he worked at it though... unless he is one of those people who has no hand eye coordination at all
- inactive, on 08/18/2009, -0/+1... because this isn't normal? I mean it's like we're going a legion of basketball players and swimmers that would follow the foot steps of Michael Phelps or not... http://www.reef-one.com/
- MentalRay, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1It's not polite to look down on everyone.
- inactive, on 04/09/2009, -1/+1Bean??
- Ronster23, on 04/09/2009, -2/+1THAT'S ONE HUGE BITCH!
- nemomarlin, on 04/09/2009, -5/+4It's actually sad thing
