- gvoakes, on 05/24/2009, -14/+577It's a shame there are so many homeless veterans. They deserve better.
- SanDiablo78, on 05/25/2009, -32/+476So he was faking all along?
- mspink, on 05/25/2009, -28/+351Oddly enough, my husband was at the grocers today and he said Happy Memorial Day to the cashier and her reply was "I don't celebrate Memorial Day". All he could say was "Uh ...What?" What a shame.
- onClipEvent, on 05/25/2009, -11/+313why would it be a "Happy" day in the first place?
- geoboy, on 05/25/2009, -14/+288"Happy 9/11, everybody!"
- inactive, on 05/25/2009, -6/+220Yeah, the people sitting would also be fiddling with their cellphones today. A property owner might tell the guy to sit down so he doesn't fall and risk a lawsuit.
- GayImam, on 05/25/2009, -3/+195On Memorial Day we salute those who answered the final call - it's not meant for the living.
For Our current military and living Veterans we honor them on Veterans Day. - xDynaBlade, on 05/25/2009, -13/+181Caption should read: "In this very small section of parade-goers, the only person standing is the man in a wheelchair."
- xcvbn, on 05/25/2009, -11/+169yea but that pic was taken like 30years ago, things are much different now, right?
- chadsmith729, on 05/25/2009, -11/+138Happy Memorial Day everyone!
- Tracker, on 05/24/2009, -102/+226USA! USA! USA!
- wickensworth, on 05/25/2009, -6/+125The only person not wearing a hideous vest ... is the man in a wheelchair
- AmazingSteve, on 05/25/2009, -8/+91Semper Fi old man.
- r00t3r, on 05/25/2009, -16/+98The reason he is standing is to show respect for the Flag. You should always stand (if you can) when the colors are presented.
- MargotCross, on 05/25/2009, -16/+96this is just depressing.
- WiscoAngel, on 05/25/2009, -2/+75According to the National Survey of Homeless Assistance Providers and Clients (U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness and the Urban Institute, 1999), veterans account for 23% of all homeless people in America. The VA estimates that 154,000 veterans are homeless on any given night. And approximately twice that many experience homelessness over the course of a year.
The least we can do for our veterans is help them to have a roof over their head. There is no reason that they should be homeless. - Chicken, on 05/25/2009, -0/+71Probably because she doesn't get to take the day off that day.
- GumGuts, on 05/25/2009, -6/+76My brother's an Iraq war veteran with severe PTSD... He was a medic in the 172nd Styker Brigade, he served in both Mosul and Baghdad. Many of his comrades died in combat, and he wears the bracelet of PFC Raymond L. Henry.
- Armor1901, on 05/25/2009, -40/+104Republican, Democrat...whatever the hell you are, and no matter what problems the US has, I will love her until the day I die. God Bless the USA
- m0tbaillie, on 05/25/2009, -4/+66Unfortunately, if you attend any public sporting event you'll quickly notice that symbolic actions like the hand on the heart, taking off hats, emptying your hands, and even shutting the hell up during the National Anthem are lost on most people..
Sad, but very true. - brownsound00, on 05/25/2009, -2/+60what
- Yazilliclick, on 05/25/2009, -1/+57You'll quickly notice that most diggers don't understand the different between the national anthem, the pledge of alegiance and just the flag being around with regards to what is appropriate and what isn't.
- TeeBaagz, on 05/25/2009, -6/+60*****. I understand the point of that picture is to provoke patriotic sentiment. But don't do it by lying. There's only 5 other people in that tightly cropped photograph. I'm sure that man wasn't the only one standing.

Books - fuzzybeard, on 05/25/2009, -5/+50I can't speak for anyone other than myself; but please tell him "Thank you for your service" from Dave Lindsey (aka Fuzzybeard).
Yeah, I used my RL name; this is how strongly I feel about honoring those who serve. These people have served this country honorably. The motivations and reasoning for putting them in harm's way is what needs to be criticized; not the people who served! - peestandingup, on 05/25/2009, -14/+59Yes, the only one standing out of the 6 people shown.
- groof, on 05/25/2009, -4/+48Isn't it inspiring when people who are otherwise disabled go the distance to show their support for something? Give this guy some credit - photo a million years old or not.
- jakereilly, on 05/25/2009, -24/+66To hell with you.
You can criticize the leaders or a war, but not respecting people who are willing to die for this country makes you an ***** who doesn't deserve the freedoms this country offers.
Again, ***** you. - OrangeTide, on 05/25/2009, -6/+48America is a great place, except for the political *****.
- kmb1794, on 05/25/2009, -5/+47"I've seen a lot of spinals dude, and this guy's a fake, a ***** gold bricker!"
- DirtPile, on 05/25/2009, -6/+44Thank you for bringing attention to this issue. It's reprehensible that our nation applauds the uniform...until they come home.
- gwhardyiv, on 05/25/2009, -0/+37Do we know if the man in the picture is either homeless or a veteran?
- stabbity, on 05/25/2009, -15/+50What's the % of veterans in the total population? That doesn't really compare the percent of veterans in the homeless population versus veterans in the overall population. If they make up a higher percentage of the homeless population than their percent in the overall population, then there really is a serious problem.
- ChaosProfessor, on 05/25/2009, -4/+38Bed bath and beyond ***** YEAH
- dontlookleft, on 05/25/2009, -1/+28Thank you.
- Syric, on 05/25/2009, -4/+31Yeah, let's all CELEBRATE the day meant to honor those fallen in battle. WHOO DEAD SOLDIERS PARTY TIME
- inactive, on 05/25/2009, -3/+29I know of a videogame that can prove you wrong, orsenfelt
- Bullislander05, on 05/25/2009, -34/+60Who would digg this down?
Oh yeah, those who despise our economic system, government, or both.
At least give us our day to remember those who fought for our nation, just like all of you others need to remember that your nations weren't built from nothing either. Even with all of our problems and disagreements, one thing that we all agree on is that the men and women who make up our armed services are braver than many of us will ever be, and they deserve recognition for that. - EIEAviv2008, on 05/25/2009, -1/+27everything in life can be summed up with a Big Lebowski quote
- gonorea007, on 05/25/2009, -3/+27Happy Memorial Day?....
As a former combat veteran, I am baffled every time I hear someone say that. It's not supposed to be happy but a sober remembrance of the dead and their sacrifices. That's neither happy or justification for discount matress sales. - ObeseSnake, on 05/25/2009, -2/+26Sad Memorial Day everyone!
- n0t0kayipr0mis3, on 05/25/2009, -1/+25There wouldn't be anyone there.
- inactive, on 05/25/2009, -4/+28you don't need to cite something that is common knowledge. why do you think that organizations like this exist?
http://www.nchv.org/background.cfm - inactive, on 05/25/2009, -5/+28Semper Fi brothers.
- Akira119, on 05/25/2009, -2/+24Wow, glad you think our military is just a bunch of retarded teens...
I have friends in different branches of the military who are not "mentally challenged teenagers" who joined to work in intelligence ,become a mechanic, follow in their father's footsteps, etc.
But, sure, lets just tell ourselves that everyone in the military rapes little girls...
P.S. Obama didn't send our troops to Iraq to hunt for WMDs. He inherited the responsibility of what to do with a country that America destroyed and now occupies. - Bobski, on 05/25/2009, -6/+27Being a ***** with a keyboard doesn't make you a philosopher either.
- OrangeTide, on 05/25/2009, -1/+22I dunno. he can stand if he hands onto the wheel chair, do you think he could walk that well? looks pretty unstable to me. But you're the doctor.
- andyrunner, on 05/25/2009, -4/+25the guy on the far left is actually trying to raise money for the Coast Guard Youth Auxiliary.
- KrayzieKyd, on 05/25/2009, -2/+23@hokie recent veterans? tell that to vietnam vets who lost limbs and CAN'T get jobs.
never forgotten... too bad - OrangeTide, on 05/25/2009, -5/+26Yea that's kind of ***** up.
