- upick, on 09/18/2008, -9/+73That's a lot of people to ban maybe there should be a petition?
- DebsW, on 09/18/2008, -7/+68Oh boy - do we know why? there are several of my friends on that list..
- defaultfilter, on 09/18/2008, -2/+62Inconceivable!
- inactive, on 09/18/2008, -2/+49It seems many have had a visit to Digg's electric chair!
- diabetic, on 09/18/2008, -3/+48I was wondering why things were so quiet this morning. Why were they banned?
- inactive, on 09/18/2008, -6/+45Getsmartgal & Misantherope Both in one day? Brutal. Then to lose that ***** Deathwish808 was devastating. Why Kloop10 though? He shouts Fvcking shoes for Pete's sake. I mean that's just Wong! Sorry Amy, I would shout this but after yesterday my friend's list is as about as active as Bernie Mac.
- dbldn, on 09/18/2008, -7/+45Some indication why would have been nice. /Glares/ at the new digg communications director...
- 4cdawgs, on 09/18/2008, -2/+40wow. That is a real shame. Good thing I don't use those scripts.
- w0lfh0und, on 09/18/2008, -1/+39FROM THE DIGG BLOG: Digg monitors for script/bot activity globally across all our site pages. In addition to that, our development team has completed some improvements that will be rolled out this week. These changes will be more transparent, warning and preventing the users from using these scripts/bots.
I trust then, that as stated, all these people were issued warnings prior to the ban. Or maybe not. - WordsnCollision, on 09/18/2008, -6/+43There are a lot of scripts being used and Digg needs to state clearly which ones are allowed and which are not. The convoluted legal lingo in the TOU is anything but clear. If using ANY script is illegal, just say so!
- imreal, on 09/18/2008, -2/+36it's not like it was totally out of the blue tho, their most recent blog post says that scripts violate the tou. wake up people
- darkchild82, on 09/18/2008, -7/+41A lot of them submitted good content and were friends of mine. I hope they get their accounts back because I'm pretty sure they won't use scripts again (well most of them, I don't know all 60 of them).
- inactive, on 09/18/2008, -2/+33This is akpwnz - I got banned :<
PS - If anyone uses the checkfriends script (you know the one that lets you see who diggs you and only shouts to people who havent dugg stories)
They said that was illegal to in an email to me. - POTPOLITICS, on 09/18/2008, -3/+34They should also knock off all the people that want diggs and never digg anyone but themselves;)
- inactive, on 09/18/2008, -2/+31I do not think finger pointing or name calling will solve this issue.
I do think that this was a "Firing Ned Yost" move and someone felt pressure from somewhere.
There are some names on that list that do not make sense - and some that are missing.
But the easiest thing to do is if this bothers you - just stop using digg and stop digging.
If we can boycott other ***** - just boycott this too...
I do not think that anyone should have been banned - or - whatever you want to call it, without a little "official" email going out to all the members... Maybe they could have shouted it??
Someone who has been warned and banned - well they probably deserve it (Sorry Brian)
But others who were either clueless or never told anything... well -
OK OK OK I will stop...
(does this mean I can't vote for bennygreenberg for president now?)
LL - psud0, on 09/18/2008, -1/+30Here is some more info ... It seems they got banned for using third-party scripts, but it seems some of them have been amnestied.
http://digg.com/tech_news/Heads_are_rolling_on_Dig ... - T00NY, on 09/18/2008, -3/+28It was good knowing you Benny!
- ks136, on 09/18/2008, -5/+29Why in the hell would they ban bennygreenberg? All he ever shouted was positive, funny stuff. And if they're banning people, then I noticed some really glaring omissions on that name list.
- WordsnCollision, on 09/18/2008, -0/+24If i read Brian Cuban's article correctly, he was warned first and banned next. Am i wrong or did "bcuban" get special treatment?
- inactive, on 09/18/2008, -9/+33That's insane.
Digg needs to stop with the shoot first and don't ask questions, at all approach. While it's their site and they are allowed to do whatever they like, there are a lot of good, solid users who are getting the needle in the arm. - RegularJohn, on 09/18/2008, -2/+25Outrageous stuff. A lot of great diggers out there. Real shame...
- maxyRO, on 09/18/2008, -8/+31LEAVE THOSE DIGGERS ALONE!!!!11
- barcelona10, on 09/18/2008, -5/+27... I don't know what to say. half of those people were my friends on this site. Thank you Digg for your clarity in the TOU, you surely know how to destroy your own business.
- BXRWXR, on 09/18/2008, -0/+22Play along to get along. Digg is not a contest.
It's a site to share interesting content. Not to hog, dominate, determine or otherwise influence content, just to share it.
So share, quit treating it like it's some kind of game to win, have fun and you'll be fine. - inactive, on 09/18/2008, -1/+23who the next :(
- kellfinder, on 09/18/2008, -13/+34This is truly BS! Digg is digging themselves right down into the ground. This will eventually backfire on them and no one will bother using the site anymore. They can go over to Reddit, Yahoo Buzz, Searchles.....heck, the list is endless. NOT a smart move on Digg's part. I lost half of my friends here. What is the freaking point anymore???
- AnotherDiggGuy, on 09/18/2008, -0/+21How about this: No scripts allowed. Period.
- inactive, on 09/18/2008, -7/+28It's me, bitches! (DeathWish808) .....Does anyone else have to enter a captcha in for ***** they do now?
- StevenBullen, on 09/18/2008, -3/+24I don't see babyman?
- inactive, on 09/18/2008, -1/+22The Diggboss Firefox script got people banned from digg. It allowed you to open all your shouts and then digg them from the multiple open tabds.
- inactive, on 09/18/2008, -4/+25What concerns me as banning for political views, note the inequity, there is a higher tolerance for abusive trolls on the left, than on the right from digg.
- inactive, on 09/18/2008, -2/+22PERMABANNED!
It looks like bennygreenberg won't be running for president this year....
Is it again Digg TOS to submit content from your own site for ad-profit? At least that's why I think bennygreenberg and bccstu were banned.
Tough cookies dudes. Make a new account and move along with your life. - traceymclain, on 09/18/2008, -2/+22hopefully it won't be me
- inactive, on 09/18/2008, -0/+19The text which describe one of the digg underground scripts circulating around:
http://digg.com/tech_news/Digg_Friends_Automatical ... - BeShirtHappy, on 09/18/2008, -5/+24This is a disgrace! If I understand correctly many of those banned didn't get a warning... just a permanent ban. Shame on you Digg!!!
- 4cdawgs, on 09/18/2008, -2/+20I just hope all those that did get banned come back however they can and join in without using these so-called "scripts" it's about the content after all.
- bstory, on 09/18/2008, -0/+18scripts are bad mmmkay
- inactive, on 09/18/2008, -4/+21?!?!?!?!?!?!
- AmyVernon, on 09/18/2008, -2/+191:30 P.M. NEW YORK TIME: The list has been updated to include more than 80 folks.
- basye, on 09/18/2008, -24/+40The witch hunt needs to stop NOW.
- ascguy, on 09/18/2008, -3/+19Wrong. It needs to continue and users who abuse the system need to be purged.
- Falldog, on 09/18/2008, -2/+16Why not just stop them from submitting stories?
Or incorporate these features into the site so that they wouldn't have to use third party scripts? - CrotchetyOldMan, on 09/18/2008, -0/+14Benny has no ads on his site
- inactive, on 09/18/2008, -1/+15I am willing to bet - no one was warned...
But it is THEIR site... so do they REALLY have to warn? - rdizzle, on 09/18/2008, -0/+13You don't need indication if you're violating the TOS. That's indication enough.
- darthsand, on 09/18/2008, -2/+15Benny Greenberg for president!
- smartcause, on 09/18/2008, -0/+13I just clicked on his name - 404. The Grim Reaper keeps going.
- Burento, on 09/18/2008, -0/+12What kind of logic does that make?
- basye, on 09/18/2008, -2/+14Yes, and there are submission whores who are clearly using scripts which are not on the radar and need to be dealt with too.
If they're going to ban this many at once they should send out a warning that *any* scripts are against the TOU (make it more clear than what's up there presently) and grant amnesty to anyone who fell under the witch hunt. Give them a chance to clean up and return, because Digg has banned some excellent submitters in the process. Why throw out the baby with the bath water? - inactive, on 09/18/2008, -0/+12They used scripts which is a violation of TOS
