- bs0l, on 10/12/2007, -1/+38A great example of when half the title of the digg story should be the description.
- barrelroll, on 10/12/2007, -5/+39The blackbox was never found.
I've talked to the coroner and he said there were no traces of blood. Not one drop.
Government cover up, hoooooooooo! - theblooms, on 10/12/2007, -1/+30The video says it was $35,000. It was actually £35,000. Or roughly $60,000.
More info on the plane here:
http://www.stukastudios.se/b52.htm - iomegaboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23Seemed like a pretty damned windy day to be flying a model plane. But that's just me.
- Wavey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21It's Britain. That's the only weather they have. :)
- jkleinfeld, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20i especially enjoyed it when the time on the camcorder says "12:34:56"
- rm999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17Video says "crashes in a down wind turn"
My guess is the pilot was somewhat inexperienced, and the downwind made it very challenging to keep up. - Urusai, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18It really is hard to tell from a real plane, even when it crashes. He probably even had tiny terrorists with X-Acto blades in the cockpit.
- Spirork13, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19Kind of reminds me of this video.

except that one was real. - klawz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16For those interested, this is a much better quality video, but no tragic ending http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=1017616054778149447&q=model+b-52
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14the only thing that was missing is the commentator yelling "oh, bollocks" when it goes down
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12I'm just pissed that there was no footage of the actual crash site/wreckage.
- gotamd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12I also highly doubt the pilot was inexperienced. You don't fly a $60,000 model airplane in front of a crowd with an announcer unless you know what you're doing.
- SlowOnTheUptake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Just like they do on the real thing.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11I love the way the announcer goes completely silent when it crashes..
- karn, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Does anyone see any miniature bodies?
http://www.stukastudios.se/eldb52/build/cra3.jpg - CatalystGhost, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10@strictlybogart
Yeah, sure... if it's 1 frame per second... dumbass. - nottidredd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10£35,000, read the first comment
- groo68, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Money well spent.
- karn, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12Haha, I really wanna see the guys face who was flying this thing
O_O
Now that woulda made my day - salinemist, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7All hobbies are expensive. :-)
- daldredge, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Why?
It isn't exactly normal to take pleasure when others lose over 60,000 USD.
Are you a psychopath? - Lane, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Picture of the crash
http://www.stukastudios.se/bilder.htm# - bombcar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4A downwind turn is not a turn in a wind going down, downwind refers to the part of the airport pattern that is parallel to the runway.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airport_traffic_pattern#Layout
Probably crashed on the turn from downwind to base. - dtmfdan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5"crashes in a down wind turn", come on now, we all really know what brought that plane down.........snakes, *****' snakes!
- Mipmap, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Damn, even the smoke plume from the crash was realistically to scale. Though I doubt they planned it that way.
- Terc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"My guess is the pilot was somewhat inexperienced, and the downwind made it very challenging to keep up."
I doubt it was due to inexperience. More likely is that the flight characteristics of this model are certaintly quite different from any other model flown. 8!? turbine engines? Wow. - wwwdot1jesdotus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Maybe it's just me but it really, really bugs me that the camera is handheld and shaky the whole time there is a nice tripod in te shot. eeeeek!
- Lane, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3can you insure an R/C plane? for their sake, i hope so
- aphonik, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Wow, any idea what cause it to crash? Pilot error?
- nottidredd, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6i would probably shoot myself after that
- thirtysixbelow, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3That's an awesome device. Hats off to that guy. It sucks that it had to crash though. It did look pretty unstable for some reason, even in the successful flight.
- theblooms, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It was actually 8 engines. But yeah, if it would have hit people, it would have gotten real ugly, real fast.
- daldredge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Companies exist that will insure anything - but some of the premiums can be nearly as expensive as what is being insured.
- Zuggy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22 things
1. I would have rather boguht my Porche Carrera 911 for the price of that plane (read first comment)
2. WTF it didn't even explode, although the smoke billow was pretty cool. - b0wl0fud0n, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Here are some other RC planes:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-249543113340075448
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npwDYeCe_Xw - hodyoaten, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'm glad not to have to read a bunch of "MUHAHAHA"s in this thread. This video is like watching someone's personal workshop getting vandalized.
- obrysii, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It looked like it was a poor day to be flying one of those anyway. Such an aircraft is terribly difficult to fly, and it was very windy out.
- trev0006, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1That looks like one expensive RC plane, there is more RC plane crashes here. http://www.dpccars.com/rcvideos/rc-car-plane-video ...
- doctechnical, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Emphatically not the coolest RC plane I've seen. Much better is the RC B-29.
Which didn't crash.
But *did* launch a rocket-powered RC X1. Which also landed safely.
Plus the B-29 ejected it's pilots.
Now THAT is cool: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GtIL_VjBUGo - pmcall221, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2For $60K he could buy AND learn to fly a REAL plane.
- elliotm01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That plane looked so cool.
Watching it crash broke my heart. :( - lodravah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Do you get kites that are that expensive?
- mcottier, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The guy who was flying it was an idiot! He was careless, and I am sure he got an earful from the owner. Unless he owned it, then he probably just felt like an idiot.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"Kind of reminds me of this video.
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8403766138145210108
except that one was real."
that pilot was without a doubt an idiot for making a steep turn on such a heavy plane. You just dont make steep banks on an airplane that has long wings... its comon sinse, obviously they made the wings longer to provide better lift, i guess the idiot didn't read the planes load factor and failed to realized that the plane will stall if it reaches an acute bank angle.... im just in shock that an airforce pilot could make such a stupid mistake. - Alumman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Seeing it crash makes the video all that much better.
- rowlodge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0you could hear the wind in the camera mic. it would of been better to fly kites instead.
- PRlME, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@ hodyoaten
i'm so sorry to have to do this..Ah HA AH AH A HA HA HA
yo that was funny lol what an idiot lol every one got mad quite when it crashed ah ha ha
d!ck!!!! - verstohlen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I used to fly a remote control glider here at Torrey Pines glider port and the place where I did required I had AMA $1 million dollar insurance in case someone was hurt or killed. The insurance was cheap though.
