- AmyVernon, on 07/14/2008, -0/+33Nice (sarcasm)... It's easier and easier to do background checks on people. There's no excuse for this in this day and age....
- Surferess, on 07/14/2008, -1/+21It is so hard to get good help these days!
- alapoet, on 07/14/2008, -9/+29I think everybody needs to get over the Texas bashing and smugly superior attitudes.
We can all agree that it's a horrible thing when abusive people are hired to take care of the elderly. Anywhere. Period. - scoottie, on 07/14/2008, -16/+32well it is Texas
- inactive, on 07/14/2008, -1/+15One word: awful

- Clugenheim, on 07/15/2008, -1/+11Texas, ***** YEAH!
(I'm from Texas btw. It doesn't surprise me.) - inactive, on 07/14/2008, -2/+12yeah, and only in Texas do the "powers that be" allow bad things to happen.
- nblsavage, on 07/15/2008, -2/+12Trig, don't worry. I wouldn't come back if my life depended on it.
- inactive, on 07/14/2008, -4/+13being a Texan, I just wanted to confirm that your statement is true.
we all wear cowboy hats.
we all ride horses to school.
we all carry guns.
we all have texas accents, not to be confused with southern accents.
we all listen to only country.
we all enjoy a good polygamist ranch here and there. - Stavrosian, on 07/15/2008, -1/+9Digg has hired Candlejack to write its headli
- inactive, on 07/14/2008, -17/+25Disgusting. Not too shocked that this came from Texas though.
- AussieCynic, on 07/14/2008, -0/+7shocking.. and shameful
- Cate320, on 07/15/2008, -1/+8Unfortunately you might find it is impossible. It is a wonderful sentiment, but not always plausible to take care of an elderly parent. My aunt took care of my grandmother for years, but as her parkinson's got worse and worse, she started falling more and more often, and it was no longer safe to leave her alone. Since my aunt couldn't be by her side 24/7 (she still had to work/sleep), it became necessary to put her in a nursing home. They aren't all bad. You just have to search around for a good one and never hesitate to be on top of things and complain if necessary.
- revjustin2, on 07/15/2008, -1/+8Hey Texas bashers - ***** off. Every state I have ever lived in has it's fair share of idiots, hicks and ***** (PA, NY, WA, TX). You hear about Texas more than other states because it's one of the most populous states in the country (with two of the countries largest cities in it). It is also the one state in the union that people everywhere pretend to be experts on when they have never stepped foot in it.
- inactive, on 07/15/2008, -1/+8If this happened in a progressive country like Norway or Sweden, many of you guys would be singing a different tune. You'd probably say "it's good that they are helping these people get a second chance instead of sweeping them into the gutter".
- sk11, on 07/15/2008, -2/+8And then Americans wonder why they get bashed by smug Europeans.
- inactive, on 07/15/2008, -1/+7Texas is not alone. The problem is finding anyone to work these under payed crappy jobs.
- Cate320, on 07/15/2008, -0/+5Reminds me of this story that happened recently: http://www.stuff.co.nz/4602774a20475.html
Everyone with an elderly family member (especially ones with failing mental faculties) in a nursing home should install a nanny cam in the room. - ironhide, on 07/15/2008, -3/+8Ah yes, Texas - It's like a whole other third-world country.
- inactive, on 07/15/2008, -0/+5terrible!
- mlvassallo, on 07/15/2008, -1/+6If by Texas you mean Connecticut, then sure.
- soupdawg30, on 07/15/2008, -0/+4Because nursing homes have such great records everywhere else. I really think stricter laws need to be in place for people who abuse the disabled and elderly.
- geekdw, on 07/15/2008, -1/+5Being a Texas resident, I wouldn't mind living somewhere else, but the stereotypes don't apply to all of us.
- MavRevMatt, on 07/15/2008, -0/+3That's because the governors a ***** dumbass and has seriously ***** up the education system.
- inactive, on 07/15/2008, -0/+3No? That's all false... There might be some hicks around eastern parts of Texas, but in the more urban parts it's mostly Hispanics and Blacks... Us minorities are driving the hicks up your way. ;-)
- pintomp3, on 07/15/2008, -1/+4like the james byrd lynching?
- leerayIG88, on 07/15/2008, -0/+3yeah...this happens everyday...very sad. This is one of the reasons why I don't want to get old...
- CherrySmith123, on 07/15/2008, -0/+3thats sad this ***** is being allowed
- inactive, on 07/15/2008, -0/+3This does not happen only in Texas this happens all over the country if you have a disabled family member do a background check on the nurse.
- veriix, on 07/15/2008, -0/+3Yup, just like everyone from california is a smug *****.
- inactive, on 07/15/2008, -2/+5LOL
You think the right wing will EVER even listen to that?
They block their ears and scream "nyah nyah nyah" when anyone points out Bush is a criminal.
Oh, right, the rightards only think WE should follow the law, not them. - timethief, on 10/30/2008, -0/+3Shocking and utterly appalling.
- vkiperman, on 07/15/2008, -0/+2The truth is getting old in this country is not anything pleasant to look forward to. As a society we look down on the aged. We do not respect or cherish them or their contribution to our society. That is one bad thing about our society.
- inactive, on 07/15/2008, -1/+3stevo i was being sarcastic obviously. i live in Houston, and I enjoy the company
of you minorities despite the fact that I have white skin. I mean come on, this isn't 1963. - sapphire9488, on 07/15/2008, -0/+2What a ***** disgrace.
This is just one more reason that I will never place my parents into a nursing home. I've been reassuring them for a couple of years that I will happily take care of them should they ever want or need help... it's the least I can do! You never know what kind of people will be working at these homes! - klick37, on 07/15/2008, -0/+2Well, the Austin Strangler IS known for his sensitivity on the subject of disabled people...
- rearlgrant, on 07/15/2008, -0/+2But Whitewater, now that was serious.
- Eezyville, on 07/15/2008, -3/+5Yeah like where they broke into this ranch and stole about 500 kids to be auctioned off. What part of the country was that in?
- diskit, on 07/15/2008, -0/+2LOOK AT ALL MY STUFF!!!!!!!!!!!!
THIS IS MY HOUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!
THIS IS MY TRUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!
THIS IS MY GUN!!!!!!!!!!!!
THIS IS MY DOG!!!!!!!!!!!!
THIS IS MY WIFE- BITCH, I DIDN'T SAY YOU CAN LEAVE THE KITCHEN!!!!!!!!!!!! GET BACK IN THERE AND MAKE ME A SANDWICH!!!!!!!!!!!!
[/stereotype] - Rocketman1882, on 07/15/2008, -0/+2I only take my wagon on Sundays to church!
- diskit, on 07/15/2008, -1/+3Well it was either that or some illegals! (sarcasm)
Seriously though, that's messed up. - MavRevMatt, on 07/15/2008, -0/+1Oh, and we all love our Texan President.
That bastard. - Olfster, on 07/15/2008, -0/+1It is the unfettered untouched advertising of background checks online that continue to allow for this to happen. People often think they are getting something they really are not. Let's say, I have a database of criminal records you pay me $6.99 and I will let you run a name against it. I claim I have millions of records, although most are the same record with only slight differneces or address from a old phone book listing with just the name, but I do have millions. Or for all you know I only have say 1000 records, but you pay me anyway to see if your person is in there. If but some rare chance I have something, say an address with that name, but no other identifiers, I return the name and ask you to purchase some other services to rack up your costs. It is the same game repeated over and over by the online background check companies. All to the detriment of the general public. Want a background check call a licensed PI save your money.
- diggnationfan87, on 07/15/2008, -0/+1"Do you feel you have been rehabilitated?"
- rearlgrant, on 07/15/2008, -0/+1LOL
- vkiperman, on 07/15/2008, -0/+1Florida has been doing that within childcare for decades.
- CarolineAttack, on 07/15/2008, -0/+1Yeah, but go ahead and speculate that we "most likely have the lowest I.Q.'s"
- Olfster, on 07/15/2008, -0/+1I bet these were checks were conducted through an online instant results backgroudnd check company. People do not seem to understand that there is no such thing as an adequate background check online. The only way to perform an accurate up to date 100% FCRA compliant background check is at the county level. I would take a guess that these people used intelicrap or some other online database touting accurate criminal records. Even state kept repositories, Texas among the notorious, are grossly erroneous as to having a complete or accurate criminal data. If you want a true background check you need a skilled private investigator preferably state licensed (for accountability) to conduct the background check at the county level, and only after doing a preliminary investigation as to the applicants where abouts during the previous 7-10 years. Anything else is just like giving money away.
- MavRevMatt, on 07/15/2008, -0/+1***** you.
