- KathyAlbrecht, on 10/12/2007, -0/+53Teller speaks all the time, in all there shows when ever theres voices off stage or not seen or narrations etc.. its usually him.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+53Oh God, now Penn's going to beat me! I'm not the first Teller you know!
- mindsnare, on 10/12/2007, -1/+43funding? right wing? I can only assume you're talking about Penn & Teller's *****. I never found the show to be one sided at all, they pretty much piss off both sides. For example they've done a show on the ***** of family values (pisses off the right wingers) and they've also done a show on the ***** of recycling (pisses off left wingers)
from what do you base your right wing funding claims? - Djerrid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+31Adding to that theme, Teller did a great book review on NPR. The book was a biography of a magician called Chung Ling Soo that never spoke on stage until his final act where in a bullet catching trick he was mortally wounded and cried out "My God, bring down the curtain. Something has happened." http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4750603
There are few times I would describe irony as beautiful, but this is one of them. - Satanael, on 10/12/2007, -1/+31Somehow his voice doesn't surprise me at all. Smooth.
- Protonz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+28They are not 'conservative' or 'liberal'. They are closest to the philosophy of 'libertarianism'.
Essentially, libertarians believe government is the problem.
Both Left & Right wingers believe government is the solution.
South Park also has a libertarian point of view that is sometimes confused with being left or right wing. - magicmarc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20I totally relate to what Teller just said.
I have been a magician for around 13 or 14 years, taking it absolutely seriously for around 10 of those.
Being in England, we don't have the Magic Castle, but the Magic Circle, where I go regularly to watch shows and discuss tricks.
For a magician, the best shows I can watch are the shows at the Magic Circle. Any other show I watch on TV now, is just ruined by my knowledge. Its like a "magician's curse" that we can no longer be fooled by magic tricks, that no sense of magic is given to us when watching an illusion, but more a sense of analysis.
When magicians prepare shows for magicians, however, they use these false moves, and ideas that will really fool magicians. It is always great to see something like this. - thcobbs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20@foxymcfox
Don't you think that is the point of their stage persona? The seemingly more intelligent one is quiet and reserved in all his actions while the brutish one is the vocal and physical presence. - xOutlawx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11@ magicmarc
...And I'm assuming you weren't part of the Magician's Alliance either?

/Arrested Development reference - bightchee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8No. It's $85 and in my opinion worth it at least once.

Very kind, very polite. We saw him during CES and had a good 5-10 minute conversation with him.
And yes, if you've never seen their stage show in general, it's well worth the money. They make fun of magic in general, while performing many audience favorites during the show. Often they will demonstrate (although at fast speed) the various techniques for things like the cup and ball and magic wand tricks. - Jolene, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Yes. Teller does speak a lot. He just doesn't speak when acting. Its been his thing for a long time.
How Penn has explained it. When Teller was doing magic, before he met Penn, and he would get heckled. He would just stay quiet and continue his act. Eventually, the heckler would just get turned off cause Teller would give absolutely no reaction to them. Penn on the other hand, would start heckling the heckler back, which is where he has gotten his raspy smoker like voice. - Culled, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"Teller speaks all the time, in all there shows when ever theres voices off stage or not seen or narrations etc.. its usually him."
Yeah but this time you actually see him when he speaks. I was watching a History Channel documentary on Houdini; Teller was one of the commentators but he was blacked out so that you couldn't see him. - digitalruse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I have been to their show twice now. (A very big fan of theirs both magic and politically)
After every show they go out into the lobby and talk with anyone who want to come up and talk. They are both class acts, and great people to boot.
-DR - commonsence21, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This was from "Penn and Teller's Magic and Mystery Tour" tv series, its on DVD. Rent it, its very interesting, I found it at my local blockbuster.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/*****!#Global_warming - dvgraphics, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Back in 1995, Penn and Teller did a TV special called "Penn & Teller Phobophilia: The Love of Fear"...during one part of the show, Teller "speaks", but you cannot see his face...and the voice that comes out is Billy West's (Futurama, etc)- The only way I could tell at the time was because the voice is essentially a dead-on Stimpy.
Cast list from IMDb: http://imdb.com/title/tt0259504/ - doctechnical, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you can't get enough of Teller talking, see if you can snag a copy of the movie "Penn and Teller Get Killed". Not only is it a decent movie (with a good payotf) but Teller delivers pretty much a soliliquy at the end.
- kpmailman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3The left (yes, I'm assuming here, I know) usually does hate Gilette. He has the huevos to speak in completely non PC terms. I disagree with him on some things, but love his way of speaking REAL truth to idiots.
- shaun1018, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1You can also hear Teller talk on an NPR segment.
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=1114511 - aspectratio314, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I saw "Egyptian magician" in the description and all I could think of was The Jerky Boys.
"Yes, and then I torment audience with mountain cat!" - foxymcfox, on 10/12/2007, -10/+7When you get to know him, it is really surprising that he has chosen to go the route of taking on a silent persona. He is probably one of the most naturally intelligent people I have ever had the good fortune to meet. Not only that, but he also has such a natural inclination towards learned knowledge that he has no problem expressing that natural intelligent in finely crafted ways.
...Penn on the other hand really is a bit heavy handed in everything he does, language included...I'm much more a fan of the former, rather than the latter. - lewikee, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Is it really $100 to see their nightly Vegas show?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2Why can't Penn be the quiet one?
- blackflagtent, on 10/12/2007, -12/+2you can actually hear teller talk every night if you really want.
According to Penn Jillette, during most tricks Teller will talk under his breath, and even to audience members who come on stage.
so all you have to do is go to vegas, pay $100 to see the show, and hope you get picked to be on stage, then maybe you'll get to hear teller talk to YOU. - sparks2, on 10/12/2007, -16/+4I love it how no one else reacts and he's having such a good time, the others are like "wtf noob" :p
- xerus, on 10/12/2007, -29/+5lol politics
- fakemoonlanding, on 10/12/2007, -47/+6I listened to that book review on NPR too, he's very well spoken. Charming fellow. Too bad their show gets their ideas and funding from right wing think tanks :T
- farmboymdp, on 10/12/2007, -69/+17Wow, it only took a minute and a half for me to like him more than his ***** partner Penn Gilette. Now that's magic!
