- michaelpinto, on 01/13/2009, -1/+9Almost too scary to be true: "The 18-year-old, named in reports as Ben Smith, was challenged on the Jeremy Kyle chat show over his claim to have fathered a fourth child. The outspoken presenter accused him of irresponsibility, asking whether he could even spell the word father. He drew mocking laughter from the audience as he responded: "F-a-r-t-h-e-r." The teenage girl next to him on stage covered her mouth as he added the superfluous "R" but he appeared unaware of his mistake."
- DeVayne, on 01/13/2009, -1/+9Yes, lets all laugh at the poor sap because he can't spell a simple word, laughing at him will surely give him the proper motivation needed to learn. oh how superior we are.
- scooterbaga, on 01/14/2009, -0/+2Perhaps in his shame he'll stop making babies?

- Calcularius, on 01/14/2009, -0/+1Illiteracy and the ability to be a responsible father are in no way related.
- scooterbaga, on 01/15/2009, -0/+1I see your point. You're correct in thinking that some illiterate men can be good fathers. I think I had the most trouble with the use of 'responsible'. But I suppose that depends on why the person is illiterate in the first place. In some cases it could be considered irresponsible to be illiterate and choose to bring up a child. In some cases illiteracy is sort of a choice.
The reason I'm inclined to ridicule that person is his attitude. I imagine more are inclined to point at the freak. However feeling shame and embarrassment is a personal choice and a confidence issue. - scooterbaga, on 01/14/2009, -0/+1Wow, in context it's much better. He may have even thought the audience was on his side?
- Calcularius, on 01/14/2009, -0/+1No, it's just like there are a whole bunch of ***** fathers who can read and write quite fine, and just like there are illiterate people who love their children and support them. Obviously, this guy is illiterate AND a ***** father, but it does a disservice to all of the otherwise good people out there who happen to be illiterate. They will feel more shame and embarrassment because the idea of, "oh, you're illiterate, you must be a horrible person" is perpetuated by this kind of ridiculing of someone.
- scooterbaga, on 01/14/2009, -0/+1Just like having a basic education and schooling a child are in no way related?
- joshcollie, on 01/13/2009, -1/+1Jeremy Kyle is the *****.
- joshcollie, on 01/13/2009, -2/+2It's exactly these kind of people in the UK that do not want to learn and yet more taxpayers' money is thrown down the drain to give them cash incentives to stay on.
