- Ch0mpr, on 01/12/2009, -4/+134seriously, what the ***** is wrong with some people?
"...his son came into the room and asked: 'Would you guys close your eyes? I have a surprise for you.'
The father, who recovered from the shooting, testified that he expected a pleasant surprise. Then his head went numb from a gunshot. His wife, Susan, 43, died of gunshot wound to the head." - Conguent, on 01/13/2009, -6/+118Betrayal.
- vbullinger, on 01/13/2009, -4/+97Look, video games, movies, music, etc. do not make you do things like this. I've played more violent video games than anyone I know. I was allowed to watch R rated movies when I wasn't even ten years old. I've never been prevented from listening to any music ever.
How did my life turn out? I have never been in trouble, never done anything wrong in my whole life, waited until I was 21 to drink, which I almost never do anyway, I've never done an illegal narcotic in my life, waited until marriage, have a 4-year computer science degree from a great school out east (Worcester Polytechnic Institute) and I have a good career as a computer programmer.
Video games, movies and music have never influenced me. If someone copies a game, movie scene or song lyric, it's only because they were messed up in the first place: the art only gave them an idea of how to channel their psychosis. Feel free to say "he wouldn't have done it without that game!" but, in reality, he would've just done something else like become a rapist, drug dealer or pedophile. - sockpuppets, on 01/13/2009, -3/+91He was sentenced 25 years to respawn.
- hawkspur, on 01/12/2009, -3/+77He deserves it. Unstable people like this give people like Jack Thompson the ammunition they need.
- IvenomI, on 01/12/2009, -4/+68Game over.
- feignNU, on 01/13/2009, -0/+55yeah that's some cold blooded ***** right there.
- Trollbane, on 01/13/2009, -0/+38Over Halo 3?
...Really? - MarianaPeyton, on 01/12/2009, -3/+36The weirdest thing is that he could of bought another Halo 3 for less than 50 bucks. Heck, this guy is really ***** up.
- vbullinger, on 01/13/2009, -1/+31Anybody with half a brain.
- immatellyouwhat, on 01/13/2009, -1/+26I'll bet he will get a lot of energy swords in prison. ***** Loser.
- Betrayal, on 01/13/2009, -0/+23You called me?
- newman8r, on 01/13/2009, -1/+21it was the stupidest thing he could have done - he made it so he could never play the game again in his life, ever.
- inactive, on 01/13/2009, -0/+18Note the article did not report on any pre-existing ***** this kid already had going on, you cannot tell me he was a normal teenager and just suddenly decided to become a cold hearted murderer one day because mom and dad said "no more games today"
- inactive, on 01/13/2009, -2/+19Seriously, I'm female and I find the occasional sexist joke funny. You just come off as socially retarded.
- enantiodromia, on 01/13/2009, -0/+14He will serve out his sentence being brutally tea-bagged over and over while he is glitched into the side of a rock.
- inactive, on 01/13/2009, -8/+21It's good to have guns around the house. Keeps things safe. Who knows how many times that gun saved the family from random armed burglars and gang attacks.
- theragu40, on 01/13/2009, -2/+15If you were going to spring for the sexist comment, you could have done a lot better than that.
- poprocksandsoda, on 01/13/2009, -1/+13Just so you know, the Judge stated had he the option to find him not guilty by reason of insanity he'd done it.
- theragu40, on 01/13/2009, -0/+11Good. What a ***** jackass. It's ***** like this that gives all gamers a bad name and vindicates "LOL BLAME THE VIDEOGAMES" statements from news sources for years to come. Of course the games were not the cause, but you know where this is going to lead. Lock him up forever.
- NuttyVirus, on 01/13/2009, -0/+10Well at least he can tea bag all he wants now that ***** idiot.
- fugazied, on 01/13/2009, -0/+9How will he feel now that he's in prison for Halo 4, 5, 6 and possibly Halo 7!
- NoTiG, on 01/13/2009, -4/+12In my opinion the human soul.. if you can call it that... needs an outlet. As much as we think violence is bad.. as much as we think death and murder are heinous.. In a way we are entertained by it through drama. That is why games need to exist.. because it gives an imaginary outlet to express our psychotic existence rather than a real one.
- lennybird, on 01/13/2009, -0/+8Wow, that kid needs some ***** help.
And I get pissed at myself for getting a little frustrated with a game... Talk about no self control. - enantiodromia, on 01/13/2009, -2/+10huh, he never even played the game.
his father was a preacher. should we assume that's what drive the kid crazy instead? - deweyhewson, on 01/13/2009, -2/+10Bogus. Heinous. Most non-triumphant.
- Murdats, on 01/13/2009, -1/+9people who realise that they confiscated the game as soon as he bought it home so he didn't have a chance to play it before killing his mother and attempting to kill and frame his father and generally acting like a disturbed sociopath.
- blackCascade, on 01/13/2009, -0/+7:)
Where can I subscribe to your newsletter? - AmICoolNow, on 01/14/2009, -0/+7Have.
- sperin4, on 01/13/2009, -5/+12This kid should know that a team kill can get him kicked.
- Frumbler, on 01/13/2009, -2/+9"Petric may have been addicted, but the evidence also showed he planned the crime for weeks, said Burge, who found the teenager guilty of aggravated murder, attempted aggravated murder and other charges."
He's been planning it for a long time, Halo 3 is a great defense. I'm sure that's what his father wants to believe. The other possibilites he doesn't want to face. - Link740, on 01/13/2009, -0/+7Hopefully with 11 year olds screaming "n00B!!!!11" and "CHEETR!!@11!"?
- rawnzilla, on 01/13/2009, -0/+7I wonder what this kid would have done when LIVE went down during Christmas two years ago.
- Frumbler, on 01/13/2009, -4/+11R movies before 10 years old and waited until marriage.... hmmmmm. After I watched Bo Derrick in 10 there was no way I was waiting :)
- SketchyClown, on 01/13/2009, -0/+6Ahh, these retarded kids and their video game "addictions". Such tabloid wannabe headline fodder. No one will ever believe you, and no rational human being will sympathize with you for not being able to play a stupid video game. Hope Big Bubba drills you a new hole in prison you worthless sack of *****. And then all his friends too.....
- crackerjohn, on 01/13/2009, -1/+7dude you must have planned for the bury.
- DrKarl66, on 01/13/2009, -1/+7He didn't need to. I guarantee this kid had been in trouble in the past. I too was shown R rated movies when I was young, and played doom when I was 7. I didn't wait until I was married, or didn't wait to drink until I was 21 but aside from that I too am about to graduate with a B.S. in Computer Science and have never been in trouble or given my parents (or anyone) ***** about anything. I am responsible for my actions and not some made up world people love to use as a scape goat.
- Intangible360, on 01/13/2009, -0/+6I don't know why I always expect more civility from the internet...
- Spor, on 01/13/2009, -1/+7And there are FAR more cases like yours than his. I was blasting Nazi soldiers in Wolfenstein before I knew what a Nazi was. I've devoted far too many years of my life playing FPS' competitively (mainly CS and H1). Am I deranged and psychotic?
Not as far as I or anyone else can tell. Like you, I have a B.S. in Comp Sci and have been working as software engineer for the last few years. I'll be attending a top15 law school this fall.
So to say that games, videos, music, or whatever is the reason people perform such atrocities is ridiculous. If you are going to shoot your parents in the head, you have issues that run much deeper than a video game can inflict. Face reality people.
/rant (sorry) - fxu1989, on 01/13/2009, -7/+13So is that what everybody says despite really wanting it but can't get it? "waited until marriage"?
- Mujokan, on 01/13/2009, -0/+6I look forward to reading about you in a future submitted article.
- mustang460, on 01/13/2009, -1/+6uhh, I think if they saw this article they would NOT take away your halo 3.
- MattyDienhoff, on 01/13/2009, -0/+5I see that as a bad thing. What if someone competent steps in to lead the 'games are bad' brigade?
- radu79, on 01/13/2009, -1/+6If that's true, then it is ***** up. A judge should never buy ***** excuses like that, especially when it comes to videogames.
- djruden, on 01/13/2009, -1/+6It's never too early to make a joke of this kid.
- inactive, on 01/13/2009, -0/+5we blame the person.
- hawk0168, on 01/13/2009, -0/+5Wow, digg fails the /s realization.
- elmundio87, on 01/13/2009, -0/+5it's hardly "hello kitty"
- trefitch, on 01/13/2009, -0/+5true the gun and the game were in the same area, but the prosecution said he calculated the crime for "weeks", which doesn't sound very impulsive to me.
