- BritishGolgo13, on 10/11/2007, -25/+279The anchorwoman is hot as hell and the kid is a douche.
What? - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -27/+267lmfao this guy sounds like he's braindead
- Wisgary, on 10/11/2007, -6/+229Subway promotion = FAIL
- rhinopig, on 11/11/2007, -20/+206He probably isn't 'normal' (biologically) but he is right. How the hell are you supposed to correctly spell a word you've never heard if the person mispronounces it?
- jayfarer, on 10/11/2007, -2/+163BOY.
This is uncomfortable to watch. - Sandwiches_Time, on 10/11/2007, -14/+175He's autistic.
- BuzzLightyear, on 10/11/2007, -4/+155Form a posy? Why would he want flowers?
Posse: P-O-S-S-E - Tr33fiddy, on 10/11/2007, -7/+156Am I the only one who thinks this presenter is incredible?!
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -17/+155This boy's behavior is not a result of homeschooling or being an "*****", his fixation on things being absolutely correct and inability to play along with the interviewers banter are symptoms of his neurological condition. He will always be this way because this is how is brain is wired, no amount of beating or name calling will change this. The saddest part is that he will go through life being rejected by society and will never understand why.
- L3on, on 10/11/2007, -9/+128I am in no way a qualified medical professional, but it seems that this kid has some form of Autism, perhaps High-Functioning Autism such as Asperger's Syndrome. Or he could just be very socially inept from being home schooled.
- flamingmb, on 10/11/2007, -8/+118wow that was tough to watch. That kids needs to get a sense of humor and get some social skills, ***** that was terrible. Sure he can spell *****, but I would hate to see him in a job interview.
- DarthTurducken, on 10/11/2007, -7/+101Can you see this guy on his first date?
SPELL MY NAME! SPELL MY NAME! - anonatron, on 10/11/2007, -2/+93At my last job we had a 14 year old "prodigy" as an intern, he was a pain in the ass to work with because he could never handle being wrong. One of the guys was asked to build a server with him, he decided to quit instead.
- rnelsonee, on 10/11/2007, -40/+123He may sound a little less lively that most, but that's just because he probably doesn't hear kids like him talk all day like publicly schooled kids do. He's pretty smart, despite how he soiunds - I watched the Bee when he won, and they had one of those stupid 'get to know you' type pieces. He does excellent in school, and is apparently very good at science and math (typical studies of young prodigies).
Apparently spelling isn't even really one of his passions - even right after he won, he was saying how boring spelling bees were - that they were "just a bunch of memorization". So, good for him - he happens to be the highest-rated person at something, and it's not even something he cares about. Chances are he'll be an excellent professor at some Ivy-league school in 50 years, with a long list of publications. - shaun1018, on 10/11/2007, -6/+89When he spelled the word wrong it looks like his entire world just collapsed... how ***** sad.
Its right at 2:50 - pinkgreenblue, on 11/01/2007, -1/+73"What did your mom say when you finally won?"
"I don't know what my mom said… you better ask my mom if you want the answer to that question."
Haha pwned! - PBMainiac3, on 10/11/2007, -4/+75I am no fan of CNN, but this lady has my sympathy for this one. Of course she can't suggest he go to a private school, but let's not get in to that right now.
The kid is inert. - OatmealBatman2, on 10/11/2007, -7/+63I know a guy just like this only he's 24 years old. He's pretty smart and really awkward.
- vulgate, on 10/11/2007, -7/+63That was painful to watch. Here's his awkward social future and never moving out of his parents house. Hopefully sex, drugs, and/or alcohol will permeate the bubble in which he lives one day to give him a shot at relating to others.
- chalkboy, on 10/11/2007, -4/+49@bdurkin
I don't know about you but where I went to college the professors were not sociable at all. Most professors can not teach. Of course my view may be a little off considering I majored in CS.
This guy would fit right in with the alot of the CS professors. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -15/+59lol. He's socially retarded.
Lord of the Rings action figures 50: Friends Zero, - Huitz, on 10/11/2007, -4/+40This is not homeschools fault.. I know hundreds of perfectly normal homeschooled folks (Not homeschooled myself). It appears that he might be autistic.
- quomen, on 10/11/2007, -12/+47..or... Maybe he's a kid. And not everyone is trained to be on camera giving an interview like that. He may have autism, or he may just suck at national interviews. I really dont think i'd be giving better answers at that age anyway so you guys should lay off this boy a little.
- dbz253, on 10/11/2007, -3/+37i think he'll just have to settle for drugs and alcohol for a good long while.
- jasoncz1, on 10/11/2007, -3/+34The TV Anchor did her job well. The kid didn't really have an attitude, he just responded to her questions the way he thought was appropriate. The article title is harsh. Give him a break.
- succubuskiller, on 10/11/2007, -3/+33They actually had an episode of South Park about this almost. These 2 home schooled kids won the spelling bee, but did not know how to really interact with the other kids their age. I am not really against home schooling, but not having social interaction is not going to help him later on in life.
- Frozo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+31This kid is DEFINITELY autistic, albeit at a higher functioning level than most. He's like rain man with words! He does appear at first glance to be a dick though! lol
- thestorey, on 10/11/2007, -4/+32This kid needs to be kidnapped and taken on some sort of wild and crazy journey to manhood.
- lothar250, on 10/11/2007, -11/+39What a cocky dumbass hehe...
I love the part where she asks him about what his mother said and he like doesn't say anything for 3 seconds and on the bottom it reads "King of Words" - rladley, on 10/11/2007, -15/+42Three cheers for home schooling!
- timo1023, on 10/11/2007, -2/+26I know how this kid feels. Sometimes you just aren't in the mood for smalltalk. This kid obviously didn't want to be there.
I respect the newswoman for keeping her cool, though. I'm not sure I could have gone through that without bitching out the kid. - danielsan1701, on 10/11/2007, -1/+22Are more kids autistic now, or are there just more types of varying degrees of autism with which to be diagnosed?
- Nero55, on 10/11/2007, -13/+34please spell, vagina... 'err whats that?'
- robertl30, on 10/11/2007, -4/+25The kid clearly has high functioning autism (maybe Aspergers). Better get used to this folks. 1 in 150 schoolage children are now autistic.
Cure Autism Now. http://www.autismspeaks.org/inthenews/cdc_report_coverage.php - Frophauser, on 10/11/2007, -2/+20"What did your mom say when you finally won?"
That's a stupid ass question anyway... I can't think of any answer that would have been more entertaining or informative than his response. - coollettuce, on 10/11/2007, -5/+22@jackbandit (#7041947)
Homeschooling is not the cause of his anti-social behavior. It is probably something along the lines of Autism or Asperger's Syndrome. I myself was home schooled until 4th grade and trust me, I had plenty of socialization. There are home schooling groups where you can meet with other home schoolers a couple times a week and of course you can take part in activities such as Ballet, Chess, Youth Groups and you even have the legal right to play on public school's sports teams. Nothing beats one on one attention that you get from homeschooling. It's not for everyone but I am thankful that my mother decided to home school me for my early years, because without that extra attention I don't know where I would be academically today.
Oh by the way, I'm 15, a freshman in high school. - stormcloud17, on 10/11/2007, -1/+18That kid reminds me of a lot of Asperger's kids I've worked with, he was obsessed with everything being very correct, he seemed very unsure and awkward, his speech was a little odd and about halfway through he does this weird thing with his hands that I have seen quite a few kids do. It's kinda of a bit unfair to label this video as ***** really
- imgeddylee, on 10/11/2007, -9/+25Someone mercy ***** this kid.
- davidlow, on 10/11/2007, -2/+17"Rain Man: The Early Years"
- marnaq, on 10/11/2007, -3/+18Was that Kent Brockman at the end?
- admirabumblebee, on 10/11/2007, -28/+42I dont get how this kid was 'an *****'. He sounded perfectly fine to me...
Then again im HFA.. and I have a feeling he is too :| - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14lmfao! "you like to eat subway"
"no" - praisethelard, on 06/06/2008, -3/+17Professor Frink as a kid?
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/e/eb/Frink.gif - falcon707, on 10/11/2007, -3/+16As a perfectly socialized and educated homeschool student, I am sick of being stereotyped. I get normal grades (maybe a little average... nothing AMAZING but far from pathetic). I get normal socialization with normal people. I play sports in school leagues (or at the park). I have homeschool co-op with hundreds of other kids several times a week (and yes, I have real friends who aren't geeks/nerds). The only thing different in my schedule that's different from yours is that I don't sit in a classroom all day (I do my work at home.)
It may not be for everyone but please don't judge all homeschoolers by one stupid kid (or smart stupid kid in this case). - xL0Sx, on 10/11/2007, -2/+14Posse is spelled wrong but he got rudimentary right.. heh..that gave me a chuckle.
- nite23, on 10/11/2007, -1/+13buried as lame...
he probably has asperger's syndrome... the fact that he lacks "social intelligence" doesn't make him an *****, or dumb, obviously he's otherwise very intelligent person..
for "normal" people rules of communication are very intuitive and they learn them very easily in early age.. but for instance math and physics can be hard for them to grasp... for this kid it's other way around...
if he was in normal school, he'll probably want to kill himself real soon... children can be very cruel...
i know very well what i'm talking about... - protiek, on 10/11/2007, -12/+23Every home schooled child I have ever met has been socially inept.
- nick111, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11I thought he was alright actually - possibly a bit of a geek etc - but anyone that age who hears a word they've never heard before and knows whether to ask whether it's plural, french or latin is probably pretty smart. And I like smart. Smart is ok.
Most of the negative comments here seem to carry this assumption that "the thing that's wrong with him" is that he's a bad communicator - that may be the case, but he's pretty young and he's got a fairly formidable talent with language - wait until he's 20 and see how good he is at communicating then. - cr4ft, on 10/11/2007, -6/+16I don't think it's right to call this kid an *****, as many have suggested it's pretty apparent he has some kind of neurological disorder...and considering he's home-schooled (which I would suggest against) really adds insult to injury.
I still respect him very much, he's a good kid and just isn't socially adapt as most -
