- alanocu, on 07/13/2009, -0/+10You know how Sotomayor said: “I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life.” It seemed like a a blatant racial prejudice to me but everyone misspeaks from time to time, so what did she mean to say?
“White men is stupid, y’all! Can I get a HELL YEAH?” or
“Para Espanol, oprima numero dos.” or
“My decisions are based on the plain meaning of the written law. My job as a judge is to set aside my personal biases and make the decision that the law demands. If the politicians don’t like it, they’re free to write a new law, but that’s THEIR job, not mine.” - sneakyness, on 07/13/2009, -0/+4I don't like her one bit.
Any judge that thinks he or she (or it?) is better than any other citizen in the eyes of the law is undeserving of that position. It undermines everything this country is supposed to be about, and it's a damn shame.
I'd also like to say I think we have too many laws. The best sets of laws are the ones that are the shortest, see the Hammurabi code, or the 10 commandments (I'm only using the 10 commandments because it's well known) for example. If you really need that many little additions for every situation, maybe you should re-think the basics.
Take a leaf out of GM's book. We don't need a bunch of complexity and unnecessary *****, we need what works, and we certainly know what doesn't.
Well I've done my share of caring about politics for the month, I'll be back next month.
