Where can I vote? - kent1146, on 10/12/2007, -9/+110He's in politics. His job *IS* to be the biggest media whore he can be.
- jdb252, on 10/12/2007, -7/+84Listen, Barack will run. Right now he's picking up all the free media he can because it's the smart thing to do. He will announce in January and get another month of free media. Political strategy.
- Koopa, on 10/12/2007, -22/+83"I believe a simple fact remainds clear. The country is spiraling to the left. This is the order of things, the next president will be democrat, it won't matter who, hillary, obama, whomever is the democratic candidate they will win."
By "spiraling to the left," do you mean "returning to sanity?" - ClassicJBC, on 10/12/2007, -11/+67Are you nuts? I'm not saying that the next president won't be a Democrat (which I'm hoping), but Mccain and Giuliani aren't exactly lightweights.
Whether it's Mccain, Giuliani, Clinton, or Obama, one fact remains clear; it'll be a hell of a lot better than what we have now. - sonmi451, on 10/12/2007, -1/+50Not every team.
- indicas, on 10/12/2007, -8/+48Me too; He would get my vote.
Unfortunately, I see problems with his run because he is African-American and his middle name is Hussein. I find it unfortunate people can't see past ***** like this; I don't think America is ready for an African-American president.
I sure as hell am. Go Obama :) - haastyle, on 10/12/2007, -10/+49man i hope he runs
- Wamzlee, on 10/12/2007, -8/+46Oh man...what a ***** tease....
err...well, there really isn't a better way to describe it. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+47OBAMA '08!!!!!!!!!!!
He makes you proud to be an American.
Bush has never made Americans look so bad. I cannot stress this enough. - kavery, on 10/12/2007, -5/+41I live in Utah, the most Republican right-wing state in the whole country where Democrats are essentially treated as lepers.
That being said, you wouldn't believe how many people around here talk about how Obama would change this country for the better. This guy could turn around eight years of ***** and set this country on the track it needs to be on.
He's got my vote for one reason alone: he's not John McCain or Hillary Clinton. - arunforce, on 10/12/2007, -14/+45I read these comments on YouTube, and it makes me sick.
When does "what religon" a person is, factor into whether they should be a congressman/president? Well, I know that Catholics can't become president because of the Pope, but why does him having a Muslim last name make people think he is a terrorist?
Ignorance. - LarianLeQuella, on 10/12/2007, -2/+30Most of those Democrats that don't want him to run are Hillary supporters. ;) They know he would kick her ass.
- RealHyperX, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23I am a republican, and I would vote for Obama. I think he is extremely smart, and the more I read about him, the more I realize that he is one of the few true supporters of U.S. constitution. All amendments.
- GliTCH82, on 10/12/2007, -5/+26I have confidence in our generation's ability to see past all the *****. We have ***** radar: evolution's answer to the baby boomers' insanity.
- oOLiquidNightOo, on 10/12/2007, -11/+31i know that if i was Obama that MNF would be my platform of choice to announce my candidacy, hell i'd even see if old hank jr could spin it for me:
I got a flag on my lapel, I just waved my hand.
Lord, it’s hard to be a black candidate, man.
I got really good looks, I got an intellect that's keen.
I got ethical ideas that need to be seen.
I gotta get my platform ready, gotta make everything right.
Would you vote Democratic, if I were run for president tonight? - soudak, on 10/12/2007, -6/+25Oh you mean creating terrorists from Iraq! Sorry, I thought you said fighting terrorist in Iraq.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+26*****, all of Digg knows I'm not a democrat but I'd vote for Obama
- Klostrophobic, on 10/12/2007, -8/+22Anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job.
- grazie, on 10/12/2007, -6/+20"Wants to stop fighting terrorists in Iraq:Check."
I love the way this liberal use of the word terrorist is OK when it's relating to the bad guys. You do understand though, that by the dictionary definition of the word terrorist, the Bush administration are also terrorists. By terrorist you're also referring to the people of Iraq who are upset that their country has been invaded and are willing to fight to protect it.
"Endorses abortion on demand:Check."
Aborting Iraqis is fine though! As long as we can call them terrorists first!
"Been in national politics for less than 2 years:Check."
I don't care about Obama and don't know enough to care. But maybe this is a good thing. There's nothing worse than a career politician in my opinion. The longer they're there, the more they tend to play the game. - Whateveragain, on 10/12/2007, -7/+19I doesn't matter one bit whether he is qualified or not. Look at Dubya. Can you imagine someone less qualified than that douche bag. Two Terms!! Presentation is everything in America. His mistake will be to wear everyone out with stupid bits like that Monday Night Football crap. I was a little embarrassed, to be completely honest. Of course I'd still vote for him. Who else would I vote for? If only Foghorn Leghorn would make a go of it....He would bring some sense to Washington.
- bctmark, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15The Senate is a tough place to establish a good voting record. Senators need to vote down good bills in order to get a rewrite done so it will be a better bill. Look what happened to old stumble-words. "First I voted against it, then I voted for it." Most Americans don't know how the Senate works so this practice makes politicians look bad.
The Senate's a dead end, Obama should definitely run sooner rather than later. - LarianLeQuella, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14I'm generally conservative (fiscally at least) and I like Obama. :O
- tdowling, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Those who do know about Obama will likely back up the theory that yes, he's rock solid. The only thing that can hurt him is his relative lack of political experience or some deep dark secret that no one knows about. He's a brilliant guy.
- gophernut, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Would race play a part in Obama's presidential career. I know it's 2006 and all, but I can imagine a lot of people finding an excuse for not voting for him because he's black.
- dlichteman, on 10/12/2007, -7/+16Well, now I DEFINITELY know who I'm voting for in '08
- LarianLeQuella, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13I saw it on AFN here and it was cool. Sometimes AFN cuts out the fluff from broadcasts and just play the game, and then we get commercials about OPSEC, MOPP, Quitting Smoking, etc. I know that Senator Obama is a well spoken, dynamic, and intelligent man. Hopefully he will at least get people straigntend out enough to run a campaign on issues instead of mudslinging. Just the prospect of him running is good IMHO.
- mulling, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10The republicans can't wait to run against Hillary. She would be the best possible candidate for them. Obama, on the other hand, forces them to (among other things) face their race-baiting past and they're terrified of that. He would own the black vote, too, which means if he runs Hillary doesn't have a prayer of making it through the primaries.
So I hope he runs. - kavery, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12Maybe it's because Obama seems like the type of person who would actually sit down, drink a beer and watch a game with you instead of someone who shakes your hand and immediately has an aide squirt hand sanitizer in his hand afterwards (true story about Bush from his book).
Unlike the laundry list of politicians that the parties trot out every four years, Obama didn't grow up with a silver spoon up his ass. Broken home, living on different continents, not the road most traveled.
I know his daddy didn't have no oil fields or baseball teams for him to live off of. - buuch, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Barack Obama will be the greatest president since JF ***** K.
- whoaohh, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13i don't believe his race bars him from winning the presidential election. the voters who would typically vote against an african american are people who probably wouldn't vote democrat anyway.
- treecha02, on 10/12/2007, -7/+14I want to preface this by saying that I love Mr. Obama and think he would make an excellent president.
However, I think it would be a big mistake for him to run in 2008, as do many of the people (all Democrats, all Obama supporters) I've spoken to about this issue. He is a freshman Senator who has the potential to do amazing things for this country. If he runs and is defeated, which he probably would be, that would ruin his Senate career as well as future chances of running for office when he actually might win.
I think it'd be in everyone's best interest if he hung out in the Senate for a while and waited on the presidential run. - DyDx, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11You are right in one way -- most people just like him because of his charisma and not necessarily because of his ideas.
However, I'm sure that many people have read his books (at least one of the two was a bestseller) and can get a feel for his attitudes and beliefs from them.
Myself, I only liked him because he was a smooth-talker. I didn't know WHY I liked him, he just felt like he would be a good President.
Then someone posted this link in another digg article about Obama, and it has shown me that my beliefs were right -- I definitely agree with him on at least 9 out of 10 issues he comments on here: http://www.issues2000.org/Senate/Barack_Obama.htm
He will get my vote if he is the Democratic candidate. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10It would seem to me that he's warming people up to his announcement. I can't see someone who has no intention of running actually doing a piece like this.
There's hype abound regarding Obama, and he really doesn't have to do much of anything in order for that hype to keep raging.
Let's face it, if he ran right now he'd win. That's not going to change because he pokes a bit of fun at all the hype.
He'll surely have my vote when the time comes. - KanosWRX, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10I must say usually I have voted republican, but there's something about him that just makes me think fresh start, and how much we need someone like him in the office. No more Clinton/Bush Monarchy! Down with Hillary.
- chocobomog, on 10/12/2007, -10/+16Don't you want to hear about his stance on issues, learn about his plans for the future and programs, hear him debate his opponents, and actually see if he is qualified? Or are going to mindlessly vote for someone in two years based on a 3 minute video you saw while watching football today?
- soudak, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11There is a difference between people with a political bias and people that think. I've seen plenty of people on digg that obviously just have a political bias. But I've also seen a lot of people who think for themselves...and...well...let's face it, it's hard to combine Bush and "thinking" in the same sentence (at least without the use of a negative). That's not political bias, that's just Bush.
- otheruser, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Awesome.
Someone make this man President, quick. - VicHislop, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Again, it's that reality, liberal, and bias are working together. You should know this by now.
- catfacem3n, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Not voting for Barack because he is black is wrong.
Voting for Barack just because he is black is wrong.
Learn about the person. Don't become what you a revolted by. - MurderMystery, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Dave Chapelle reference? Anyone? Anyone?
- wiggles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5It's a good thing that our constitution assumes that those in power will abuse it. Otherwise, we'd have a monarchy instead of a republic.
- Daunting, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7http://www.issues2000.org/Senate/Barack_Obama.htm
Look him up. I wish more politicians actually did work for their citizens like Barack Obama has done. I enjoy his charisma but I like to consider myself a pragmatist. He has done very good things and his ideology is expressly reasonable. Nobody works with varying politicians like he do. He has my vote, and if he finally says he is running I'll be one of the first ones to rally my district in support of him. - ylph, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6@arunforce
John F Kennedy was a Catholic - Yokohamalion, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6All of you who are so hyped up on this guy cause he's a Bears fan or a 1/2 black man deserve it when you get shallow Madison Ave. created leaders. A dude like Lincoln would never get elected today cause its a big popularity contest. It's more like voting for a president of a high school than a country. Its no wonder why your founding fathers did trust you to elect the president through the popular vote.
- MurderMystery, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Maybe your hanging out with the wrong crowd?
- Jelloyeti, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I wish people, like you, would do a little research before going on digg and trying to act as though they're intelligent. Maybe you're right that charisma has nothing to do with intelligence or wisdom, but this man was elected president of the Harvard law review, before graduating magna cum laude. After some time in private practice he went on to teach Constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School. I have no doubt that you never accomplished anything of the sort. Further, I have no doubt that your apparently vast knowledge of executive powers and responsibilities as delineated in the Constitution pales in comparison to his. Please go ***** yourself.
- aurath, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7With that deep and manly baritone, how could you not vote for him?
- sooperdooper, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8...And we can see the steam coming from Athens all the way over here as Plato, reportedly, is spinning in his grave...
- ChaperonNoir, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I'm not American, but after watching the video and visiting his wikipedia page, i'd vote for the guy.
Like others said, the checklist, is pretty much checked everywhere. But the part that is most important for me is the religion part. Is he a big Jesus loving Idiot like Bush or is he a muslim? If he's any of those 2 , it's no good. A good president would be a guy who's above those things. A guy who's not sold his soul to a religion. -
