Sci-Fi Satire Fuels Fanboy’s Funny Star Wars Videos

wired.com — After crafting two dazzling fan films that land Star Wars characters in everyday San Francisco, Mike Horn has proven that he has a gift not only for CGI, but also for sci-fi satire. He spent about 50 hours on his recent clip, he says, using Mocha for motion tracking, After Effects for compositing and Final Cut Pro for editing, sound, and mixing.

  • bitterbug, on 05/14/2009, -0/+3Yeah, excellent compositing. Most of the masking work was really well done, only a couple minor misses. But the explosions weren't up to par with the rest.
  • PixelMagic, on 05/14/2009, -0/+2Fan productions can be very fun and rewarding. They are also fine grounds to learn new filmmaking techniques and refine CGI and editing skills. I created my own Star Trek reboot teaser trailer a few weeks ago. Fun stuff. (Shameless plug)

Megor ya beat me to it... as soon as I read "dazzling fan films that land Star Wars characters in everyday San Francisco" I was thinking of Pirk, Dwarf, and Info getting stranded in the modern day. I agree, though, by comparison, these cute little shorts seem more like something your nephew shows you he just did when you visit than "Fan Films"....
