- kingmanic, on 04/23/2008, -1/+85Poor guy. Here are some suggestions I have via lots of trial and error:
1- don't choose exceptional ways to ask someone out. It makes a great story but it can be either creepy or induce way too much pressure. Save the grand gestures for anniversaries or misc special events.
2- Do it in person. Nothing says I lack balls like asking someone in such a off line way. Do it in person or at least interactively like via IM.
3- Keep trying. Don't bank too much on one person. There are a lot of people out there. Keep yourself social and keep every opportunity open. You never know when you'll bump into a really significant other.
4- Being friends sucks. If she's your friend, odds are it's too late. Make your intentions known early. Then she can make a decision without having to weigh your friendship as part of it. It's sort of dishonest when you like them romantically but do the friends things to try and get close. It won't work and it puts them in an odd place. If you want a romantic relationship, skip attempts to be friends.
5- The bar you have to measure up to isn't as high as you think. One of my biggest problems as a teen was putting the bar too high. When I realized the biggest problem was my own insecurities I did a lot better. I came form a poorer family so I blamed my lack of wealth, my lack of muscles, my lack of game etc... Turns out the neurosis was more to blame then any of those factors because despite that I kept getting a steady stream of opportunities that I screwed up due to those neurosis. I said ***** it, I am who I am. Take it or leave it and it got better.
