- BullHunter, on 01/15/2009, -2/+34She was caught overtaking a snail on the footpath
- cinnie2218, on 01/15/2009, -0/+27lol...erratic at 2.4 mph. I move faster than that on my treadmill.
- tk0680, on 01/16/2009, -2/+25FTA: "Every scooter missing from our premises is a vehicle fewer for our disabled shoppers to use.' "
Disabled and, more commonly, morbidly obese shoppers. - 5fifteen, on 01/16/2009, -0/+22Or worse, she could of caused a multiple scooter pile up.
- Shigglyboo, on 01/15/2009, -2/+24seems a bit harsh for such an innocent crime.
- inactive, on 01/16/2009, -0/+20Driving a scooter drunk, not bad. Stealing a scooter from a grocery store and being abusive to a cop, kinda bad.
- inactive, on 01/15/2009, -0/+14This is how cities are going to make up for the loss of property taxes, ticketing big criminals like this lady. I mean she could have run over some helpless squirrel....lock her up!!
- SpectralSounds, on 01/15/2009, -1/+14Her house was 10 miles away too. It would have taken her a little over 4 hours to get back home.
- vkuuumar, on 01/16/2009, -1/+13A drinking and driving ticket is wrong for what she was doing, but if she was in public and drunk the police can give her a ticket for that.
- Murdats, on 01/16/2009, -1/+13he was doing it for your protection, if you keep being reckless like that you could end up in a wheelchair...
- ohnoerino, on 01/15/2009, -1/+13Um, hilarious.
- PhoenixFlames, on 01/15/2009, -0/+11Well not if she was so drunk she ended up in the path of a car and it crashed, killing someone.
- yomamaisfat, on 01/16/2009, -1/+12Mom?
- 1KrazyKorean, on 01/15/2009, -1/+12I actually LOL'ed
- Hayaru, on 01/16/2009, -1/+10Officers also popped the hood of the scooter to check for illegal motor swaps and high-amperage batteries.
- Cheeselover, on 01/16/2009, -0/+9It's stuff like this that makes me sick.
That old lady was just being reckless! - fightingforair, on 01/16/2009, -1/+10I would love to see a video of this, cops chasing her down on segways. OJ style.
- aey112, on 01/15/2009, -0/+8doesn't she know, "No drinking No driving"
- inactive, on 01/16/2009, -0/+8FTA: An Asda spokesman said after the hearing: 'The scooters, although very practical and robust, are not really designed for road use.'
Love that dry British sense of humor. - catalystmotive, on 01/15/2009, -0/+7haha i bet she was having fun
- inactive, on 01/16/2009, -2/+7I once received a ticket in my wheelchair for exceeding the speed limit. To be fair I was going downhill at an extremely good pace and I don't doubt that I was actually exceeding the speed limit but I also have little doubt that the piglet that gave me the ticket could have found something better to do than harass a 16 year old kid in a manual wheelchair for having a little fun.
- Roxwuff, on 01/16/2009, -0/+5You can get a DUI for operating any motorized vehicle in almost every state. Scooters, mopeds, golf carts... And in a some states you can even DUI for operating non-motorized vehicles, like bicycles and even horses.
- fxu1989, on 01/16/2009, -2/+7I bet you wouldn't be saying that if she had driven to the middle of the street causing a fatal accident.
Publicly drunk driving a vehicle. Should be punished like everybody else. - inactive, on 01/16/2009, -2/+6I actually rented one of those for Bay to Breakers last year and drove it through the streets of San Francisco plastered off my face...fun time out!
- bipolarruledout, on 01/16/2009, -0/+4lol
- yourbrokenoven, on 01/16/2009, -0/+4she should have known better.
- Murdats, on 01/16/2009, -1/+5yes, under the laws that forbid public drunkenness, you can stumble in the middle of the road drunk and cause problems without a vehicle, I think they used the wrong law here.
- GrooTheWanderer, on 01/16/2009, -1/+5What can they do if you keep speeding... revoke your wheelchair licence?
- mmittimm, on 01/16/2009, -1/+5Seriously, I mean most disabled people already have a chair or scooter. I used to work in retail and I never saw a single handicapped person use those. Just very large people.
- mmittimm, on 01/16/2009, -0/+3I just love it when laws make sense.
- theespecialist, on 01/16/2009, -0/+3or else she would have been sitting rest in peace.
- URnotheonly1, on 01/16/2009, -3/+6really? who is the ***** who actually arrest someone for this?
- Frostek, on 01/16/2009, -0/+3She stole a vehicle from the supermarket which stops a person who actually is disabled from using it...
Theft is a crime too, you know. - Nick217, on 01/16/2009, -1/+4scooter speed is 2.4 mph + 2.5 hour drive = best hour she'll have in all 2009.
- CKNave, on 01/16/2009, -0/+3I have to agree with you on that. Additionally, most scooters have lights on it, although this was a supermarket scooter it will likely have somewhat dim orange lights, or at least reflectors. One would think she might actually be safer driving it.
Anyone else note that the cop was off duty who reported her? "spotted 'driving erratically' by an off-duty police officer." common now. - cloudberries, on 01/16/2009, -1/+4Boredom
- hitektwo, on 01/16/2009, -0/+2my hoverwagon can be towed by my remote control hoveround. is that safe?
- inactive, on 01/16/2009, -3/+5that thing has the speed of 2.5 mph. Even a retard driving a car would be capable of avoiding it.
- BigMike, on 01/16/2009, -0/+2Don't drink and Hoveround!
- tafdc, on 01/16/2009, -0/+1Can you say "prosecutorial misconduct"? I knew you could...
- WafflePirate, on 01/16/2009, -3/+4Why would the police even bother pushing this to a court?
- samsonofjohn, on 01/16/2009, -0/+1Yes, very safe
- grafenberg, on 01/16/2009, -1/+2hey ha ha you'd think she'd remember to forget to think.
- cheezygrin, on 01/16/2009, -1/+2There should be tougher laws for these mobility things. I know it sounds silly, but they can be a real menace. if a fat old person with bad eyesight hurtles along the path into you on one of them, it hurts. And if they hit another old person that doesn't happen to be on a scooter it could seriously injure them.
- dobbinmon, on 01/16/2009, -1/+2the fat ones are their best customers so they've got to be kept happy somehow
- chaseacej, on 01/16/2009, -0/+1Im gonna crash my slow mobile!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
- bluetigerbc, on 01/16/2009, -3/+4Now who's gonna buy her cat food. COME ON. This is pretty lame...
Someone PLEASE think of the children!
Overenforcement is really getting out of hand, :( - LKnight, on 10/14/2009, -0/+1For theft of the scooter, or unauthorized use? Sure. For public intoxication? If you say so...
But this is still worth a chuckle months later. - linagee, on 01/16/2009, -0/+1I didn't see in the article where it said she was in the middle of the street and not riding on the sidewalk.
- Testiculese, on 01/16/2009, -0/+1Money, like everything else...
