- crushfan, on 12/26/2008, -78/+828Aww, heart warming.
Yeah, don't divorce them; divorce church and state! - PrairieDoggin, on 12/27/2008, -52/+631Well that was gay...
(ducks) - solstice21, on 12/26/2008, -60/+505I hate how I keep reading "majority rules, get over it" like we were voting on something like what ice sculptures go on the courthouse lawn during the New Year.
What if the majority voted to make it illegal to marry someone with the same eye color?
What if the majority voted to take away your guns?
What if the majority voted to round up an ethnic minority and impose a "final solution" to the "problem"?
An essential component of democracy is protecting the interests of individuals who are not in the majority. Not everything is "fair" or right, for that matter, just because 50.1% thinks a certain way. - Zervaman, on 12/27/2008, -57/+453Against gay marriage? Then don't have one and shut the ***** up.
Why anyone would try to ban something that has zero effect on their lives is beyond me. I'm not gay, but if gay marriage lets people live happier lives, then I'm all for it.
GTFO of my government, religion. We don't need another dark age. - DickyT83, on 12/27/2008, -11/+249I think it was around the 4th or 5th slide that I finally realized they were all gay couples.
- CynicSight, on 12/27/2008, -52/+237***** Prop 8, the Pope, and the people in Cali who voted for this *****.
And to the people fighting back, who want to maintain their families... Do just that. Fight and keep at it. You got supporters to the left and to the right, from state to state.
- Rikkochet, on 12/27/2008, -24/+146All of those children are clearly being abused and being brainwashed with no hope of avoiding hell. OBVIOUSLY this needs to be stopped so they can be put into a nice, safe, normal family where the man works and beats his wife and mom spends all day doing the simple things that women are capable of.
RESIST CHANGE! IT MIGHT FORCE YOU TO THINK! - Nodaki, on 12/26/2008, -19/+138Reminds me of the quote "Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on whats for dinner."
We live in a quasi-Constitutional Republic which attempts to grants certain rights that cannot be easily removed by a legislative body or the people.
I am no fan of direct democracy (ballot initiatives) but the law is the law. Unless you can get the Supreme Court of the United States to overturn this on 14th Amendment grounds it sounds like the next course of action is to try to take it up in the next election.
If the LGBT activists examined who is truly standing up for liberty and justice in this country they would be shown the path of the Libertarian party and not the Democratic party in which they support blindly.
I am a supporter of being married to a box of crayons if that is your wish. What you marry does not harm me or anyone else so I have no business telling you what the definition of marriage is. - johnwastaken, on 12/27/2008, -11/+119See what i mean?!? This ***** is gold?!?
- captainpugwash, on 12/26/2008, -52/+143sweet and effective
- johnwastaken, on 12/27/2008, -10/+100Am I the only one who enjoys coming into gay/lesbian threads to read all the buried comments?
As an example, see Pecheckler two comments below...
With that said, reverse prop 8. - rhkenji, on 12/27/2008, -32/+115I cried.. is that wrong?
Imagine being separated to the one you love because the majority of people are ignorant of what real love is.
regardless of sexuality, dont separate people who are in love. We live to love. To forcefully separate people who are in love is the same as taking away the reason why they live. I know that its just a piece of paper or a form of formality, marriage, but sometimes thats what matters most to some people.
Im straight and I approve gay marriages. - donut2099, on 12/27/2008, -4/+84Yeah, theres no reason a woman can't beat her wife just as good as a man can.
- Zervaman, on 12/27/2008, -2/+70to highlight the fact that just because an issue doesn't directly affect me doesnt mean that I have no opinion on it.
- TrevorBelmont, on 12/27/2008, -5/+72Call me a bigot if you want to but I condemn human/crayon marriage.
- pinata, on 12/27/2008, -6/+72Obviously gay parents will only raise gay children.
You know, since straight parents only raise straight children. - Zervaman, on 12/27/2008, -2/+66lol. funny but not the same. obviously animals cannot consent to marriage.
- AFelsinger, on 12/27/2008, -19/+83if you're not familiar with something you should probably abstain from having an opinion on it.
- dcxoffender, on 12/27/2008, -5/+58Divorce the state and marrage.
- Chompy, on 12/27/2008, -6/+58"The majority is always right, no matter what" is how a 5 year old views democracy. When you're ready to speak and think like a grown-up, do yourself a favor and google up "tyranny of the majority".
- angryrabbit, on 12/27/2008, -3/+53it all makes sense now, my parents must have been gay for me to be gay
- inactive, on 12/27/2008, -3/+53Then a few straight couples found their way in, but I finally noticed there was no "us" on their signs...
- mjbk24, on 12/27/2008, -4/+51Then they might start gay armies and take over the world...
- costumemaker, on 12/27/2008, -3/+50we dont live in a democracy, we live in a democratic republic. The majority doesn't always rule and you are absolutely right. This 'law' didnt go through the proper channels to become a law.
- Zervaman, on 12/27/2008, -7/+53So I assume that you support taking kids away from single parents?
- WhiteMike87, on 12/27/2008, -3/+48So they DO want to get divorced?
- Frankyfan3, on 12/27/2008, -8/+52I especially loved the pictures of the veterans of our Vietnam, Korean, Iraq and Afghanistani wars proclaiming their love.
After all they sacrificed and risked to serve their country, we respond by saying their civil and secular marriage isn't valid and their relationship is evil... this is ridiculous, and I'm downright ashamed that my country has stood up for the right of religious persecution of consenting adults to mandate the law... and somehow say that is what "family values" is about.
Family values are about love, community, and treating each other based on the golden rule rather than hateful dogma. - jpete71chevmal, on 12/27/2008, -7/+50Studies show marriage is the leading cause of divorce.
That said, everyone should have the right to get married then hire a divorce lawyer. - asguardian, on 12/27/2008, -0/+42@jp
Wow, I think that joke broke Mach 5 flying over your head. - solstice21, on 12/27/2008, -6/+47Cause living in a house with two men kissing each other is way more neglectful of an environment than living in a home where your single mom is always gone
or where your dad beats your mom in front of you and calls it love
or where your parents don't even talk to each other in a humane fashion because they're not in love, because one of them is secretly gay and afraid to say it - askantik, on 12/27/2008, -6/+47The United States is not a democracy.
- MrRogers, on 12/27/2008, -2/+42I am partial to the pink crayon myself. Only a mormom would marry the entire box.
- fred0204, on 12/27/2008, -4/+44no, that's called empathy/sympathy. not everyone has it, so count yourself lucky.
- Blindlabel, on 12/27/2008, -11/+49It took me a few pictures to realize it was about gay marriage.
- diggduggjoe, on 12/27/2008, -1/+38It should be that way. Marriage is a civil contract, treat it as such. No special benefits from the state for being married.
No marriage licenses, either. If, every couple had to get a lawyer to create a union, they may put enough thought into being married to do it right.
I have seen couples get a waiver when one is in the military and about to ship out. Everyone bends over to get them hitched ASAP. Years later, a bitter legal brawl needs to take place to separate them. Maybe the bar needs to be raised on the front end of the civil union stuff. - silophysis, on 12/27/2008, -10/+46. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . _________

Those fighting against prop 8 need to do more to reach those who disagree with them. Displays like this are touching, but I'm willing to bet that 99 percent of people who watch all the way through the photos are already LGQTB friendly. I don't need any more convincing; we need to start finding better ways to target those who are going to go out and vote in favour of asinine proposals like prop 8. Those are the people that activists need to reach.
- Teegtahn, on 12/27/2008, -2/+37It's amazing that after each battle of tolerance is won, there's another to be fought. How long is it going to be before people realize that everyone else around them is exactly that: a person. No more or less than anyone else.
- JohnsonGotOwned, on 12/27/2008, -2/+35Dodging that shoe, eh?
- Scr4tchFury, on 12/27/2008, -3/+36Are you saying that marriages should be treated like civil unions in the eyes of the state no matter who it is?
- pintomp3, on 12/27/2008, -2/+35elfprince: were you ok with banning interracial marriage when the majority was against it? the constitution is a check on democracy. it protects the rights of the minority from the tyranny of the majority.
- freakk123, on 12/27/2008, -6/+37You are a moron and this is my opinion
- Humptydank, on 12/27/2008, -3/+34I think that's the point. When it comes to love and family, "gay" marriage doesn't look any different.
- jftitan, on 12/27/2008, -3/+33"being gay is a choice, and a disease and it is a sin in the bible." -fundie
"oh, so if its a choice, then you at one time or another thought about being gay?" -smarty
"no, I've never thought about being gay, I've always been straight" -fundie
"but, you said it is a choice, and thus if you choose to be straight, then at one point in your life you must have considered being gay!" -smarty
"no, thats... " *head explodes
*using the catholic interpretation = if you thought it, its a sin!* - Frankyfan3, on 12/27/2008, -2/+32I assume oboshoe is a hypocrite.
- diothar, on 12/27/2008, -8/+38It doesn't matter if I support same-sex marriage or not, I wholeheartedly believe the government should not be able to deny two adults with the ability to consent their right of marriage.
Laws should be in place only when the absence of said laws will bring harm to the rights, privileges, and health of the general public.
I fail to see how allowing same-sex marriages is a detriment to society. If a church wants to disallow it, they are within their right because of the separation of church and state, but the opportunity of a civil union should still exist. - themourningsun, on 12/27/2008, -10/+40looks like the signs were edited in
- hidetheice, on 12/27/2008, -1/+30My mom has been openly gay since I was 5... I have no interest in the same sex (i'm female) and so far neither do either of my two sisters (age 16) or my brother (21). If anything, being raised by a lesbian mom has made me more open and accepting of many aspects of life... I have never felt remotely pressured to follow in her footsteps.
- lsloany, on 12/27/2008, -3/+31That's what she said.
