- rpi22, on 05/30/2008, -10/+725Hey, so... that's a pretty reasonable reaction, huh? And i love how the officer waits until the guy starts putting the camera away, and probably thinks its off, before he lunges at the guy.
Why are cops always afraid of being filmed? If they've got nothing to hide, what are they hiding? Here's the thing, the 6th amendment guarantees your right to collect evidence for you defense in a fair trial. That means you must be allowed to record/document all of your encounters with the police. And the 1st amendment guarantees freedom of the press, to post this on youtube. - CoolHandLuke70, on 05/30/2008, -10/+492Cops like this should be sent to jail with the people they have sent to jail. This is disgusting, against the law, and unbelievable under our system of law and the U.S. Constitution!
- inactive, on 05/30/2008, -8/+411He circled him like a jackal. The cop had the look of a predator right before he went for him.
- Jorrin, on 05/31/2008, -3/+316What a childish reaction, he acted like a passive aggressive teenager, people like this should not be in law enforcement.
- Waskonator, on 05/31/2008, -34/+321I bet that cop has a tiny dick.
- iancgi, on 05/30/2008, -19/+278Illegal! our law enforcement is becoming criminal. This type of thing is happening every other day.
Cops are becoming more corrupt because our govt is becoming overtly corrupt. Along with that they are giving law enforcement power that severely compromises our bill of rights and constitution. - chicoer2001, on 05/31/2008, -3/+249So the cop attacks a reporter because he cant take a smart ass comment. The DA charge the cop in jail, because if he inst charged, it's given the people of Albuquerque the message that it's ok to assault people. Imagine if the situation was reversed and a citizen attacked a cop because of a smart ass comment. I doubt they'd be taken so long to arrest the guy.
- inactive, on 05/31/2008, -5/+250I bet if he didn't have the camera the cop would have tazed him.
- diskit, on 05/31/2008, -2/+221I hope the photographer has pressed charges.
- marcusgfunk, on 05/31/2008, -7/+205Lawsuit!
- inactive, on 05/31/2008, -24/+181Police officer behave this way because they tend to have very small genitals.
I had many good friends who worked in emergency medicine... while attending one party, someone brought up the "race and penis size" issue. After some discussion about race and penis, one woman brought up something i had never heard form any of them before - she mentioned something about police officers almost always having very small penises. Several people mentioned personal anecdotes about treating police officers, and how they almost always had a very small penis. Apparently this is some sort of running inside joke in the medical professions. I asked them if they were serious, and they said yes, it is common knowledge that police officers usually have very small penises and testes.
I think this may help explain the behavior we see caught on tape from time to time. - ANT1138, on 05/31/2008, -5/+153I hate cops like this soo much. Sadly, it's seems like most of them act this way. It makes me afraid to ask a cop for help even though I've met a couple good cops. Throw that ***** off the force. He doesn't deserve any respect or power. He belongs in a zoo.
- allowners, on 05/30/2008, -4/+151>> Why are cops always afraid of being filmed? If they've got nothing to hide, what are they hiding?
I would humbly add that the same principle applies to governments. - zephc, on 05/31/2008, -8/+142The cop will get a free, paid vacation :(
- hawarkarem, on 05/31/2008, -1/+134I love how geeky this place is. lol. This guy is clearly beaten by a cop for no reason but we wanna know the specs of the camera.
- BoboTheHobo, on 05/31/2008, -7/+120Don't call me "dude".
- Princeamor, on 05/31/2008, -20/+132***** pigs don't even care about the law! They just want to enforce it and believe they don't have to follow it! WTF?? WELCOME TO THE NEW AGE OF AMERICA! The cop probably thought that he would destroy the tape so nobody would find out about the incident! He tactically tried to move in out of camera range so that it would look as if the camera man attacked him first! Do these people think that no one can question them? As if camera's are illegal!!!
- Devotia, on 05/31/2008, -1/+109I liked the bit about not putting the camera down because it was the only thing protecting him. It's sad, but if this whole thing wasn't on film, the photog would probably be in prison for assaulting an officer.
- hfxadv, on 05/31/2008, -3/+103I've said it before and i'll say it again, where is the digg douche-bag cop section?
- DigDugDigger, on 05/31/2008, -0/+94It's perfectly OK for the police to film us with their dashcam. Yet it doesn't seem to work the other way around.
- sidewinderaim9x, on 05/31/2008, -3/+87AM I BEING DETAINED? Unfortunately, yes.
The cop overstepped his authority and needs to be disciplined. - inactive, on 05/31/2008, -2/+80My comment has been buried by a police officer with small genitalia
- nickert0n, on 05/31/2008, -5/+79Oh thats ***** *****, I hope he loses his job, just think about situations where these pricks arent on camera,
also we do have to remember that not all cops are bad some are good, but hey good cops dont make it to diggs front page right? - Phatlip012, on 05/31/2008, -1/+70If I punched a cop every time he/she mouthed off to me my ass would be in jail and not posting this comment right now. What makes it ok for a cop to do just that and get a slap on the wrist (if that)?
- inactive, on 05/31/2008, -2/+64I realize that this is a popular idea on Digg, but cops were corrupt long before the Internet was invented and people put these videos online.
Just because you're only seeing it now doesn't mean it never happened before. - warlokaz2004, on 05/31/2008, -2/+64"Your honor that guy kept bashing his face against my fists! I couldn't stop him!"
- RSS14, on 05/31/2008, -4/+65Bad cops, bad cops
Whatcha gonna do, whatcha gonna do
When they video tape you . . .
. . . Breaking the law - Jerky1312, on 05/31/2008, -2/+63Cops don't like to be talked back to. It's a power trip they have. The second you give them attitude or lip, you are in trouble. They want you to listen to them and do as they say. Even a minor refusal of a suggestion can and probably will flip them off.
- inactive, on 05/31/2008, -2/+61Because they are High Definition? Maybe they are better for live signal transmission than the $5000 Sony camcorders?
- Ghoztt, on 05/31/2008, -20/+78WELCOME TO FASCISM, AMERIKA!
- AlienMushroom, on 05/31/2008, -4/+62Nowadays, we need some drug lords and gangs to make sure the cops won't break our civil rights.
- DucoNihilum, on 05/31/2008, -0/+55He moved back, and was clearly not interfering with the police. He has a right to shoot so long as he doesn't get in their way. He asked the cop for his badge number, and the cop swung at him. You have to follow all lawful orders by police, this wasn't a lawful order.
- Zootex, on 05/31/2008, -2/+55Big man with a badge and a gun.
This vid like most other similar ones always remind of the Stanford prison experiment.
It's easy to say ***** the police but of course society needs some authority figures to keep the peace to so to speak, it's just really unfortunate that alot of meat heads seem to be the ones in these positions. - kday, on 05/31/2008, -2/+54Because they are professional cameras.....
The ones in the 5,000 range are considered prosumer cameras.
That being said, nowadays are now a lot of "prosumer" cameras used in the professional world. For an example, many Discovery shows utilize the Sony Z1U/Z7U (About a $5000 cameras). The HD isn't as good as an uncompressed HDCAM, but it still looks great. - inactive, on 05/31/2008, -3/+50***** that cop and any other officer who would act in a similar way in that situation. What the hell are they doing with out tax dollars hiring thugs like that?
- stizz, on 05/31/2008, -1/+47If you are entrusted with power by the populace, you lose your right to privacy. Meanwhile us peons enjoy the right of privacy from those we have trusted with power.
If you value your privacy, don't try to rule people. - Someguy101, on 02/19/2009, -0/+45"to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor"
That looks pretty clear to me. What better witness could you have than an actual video of the crime? - NSResponder, on 05/31/2008, -5/+47"Why are cops always afraid of being filmed?"
Always?
Cops aren't afraid of being filmed when they're doing what they're supposed to be doing. They worry about it when they're in the process of making a career-ending mistake like this one just did.
-jcr - MrKrinkleDude, on 05/31/2008, -8/+49To be perfectly honest, I would have exercised my right to self defense with my CCW. As someone who used to train CA POST graduates I believe that officer committed an unwarranted illegal attack on that cameraman. At which point he was no longer acting with the authority of a Peace Officer. You would be legally justified in using deadly force to defend yourself in that circumstance, however the other Officers there would have killed you anyway.
- ICasualty, on 05/31/2008, -1/+41Well played good Sir.
I do have to agree though, the officer was way out of line. He should prosecuted for assault, we'll see where it all leads I guess. - buckrogers1965, on 05/31/2008, -0/+39They need to bring FBI agents in under cover then, and mouth off to various cops and if any cop gets out of line arrest the cop for violating peoples civil rights.
- Lagger, on 05/31/2008, -29/+68Why do those cameras cost so much?
- rpdillon, on 05/31/2008, -0/+38I expect its mainly the lens. The glass in pro cameras is very expensive and is somewhat of a niche industry.
- Jacolyte, on 05/31/2008, -9/+46Stock up on automatic weapons.
The Police State has arrived. - Someguy101, on 02/19/2009, -0/+36Most of these professional level cameras are in the 25,000 to 50,000 range. Considering he's with a news organization he's probably got the top of the line model.
Check out www.bhphotovideo.com for yourself under the video professional cameras. - DucoNihilum, on 05/31/2008, -0/+35No. What gives the police the authority to prevent somebody from taking photos or video? Not everything an officer says or does is 'lawful', even if it is an order.
- callinthelaw69, on 05/31/2008, -1/+35***** a lawsuit. Assault charges.
- DucoNihilum, on 05/31/2008, -0/+33There is no privacy in public.
- CaptainCumshot, on 05/31/2008, -2/+34Yes. Small genitalia is the root of all the world's problems.
