- ChristNewsWatch, on 09/21/2008, -0/+16For the unsaved, death is often horrible.... but for us who are saved, death is only a portal to the real true life we were created for!
For the flesh is a slave to sin, but our spirit is the REAL us... and if we be in Christ, our spirit is finally able to escape the trap of sin, which is our fleshly body!
Hallelujah to Jesus who has given life to our spirit and destroys the sin which our body likes to do - The price is paid to redeem our spirits, if we will only receive the awesome gift of grace through Jesus Christ! - inactive, on 09/21/2008, -1/+16"`Be about your Father's business,´ he said, `because you do not know the day that your Lord will come f/you.´"

- scroogereport, on 09/22/2008, -0/+14Look closer...it turns into the best story!
- inactive, on 09/22/2008, -0/+12This story is indeed, the message of our time. We are each APPOINTED a time to be born and a time to die. An appointment with God WILL be kept. But, ALL shall NOT die. Those whom have BELIEVED and accepted forgiveness provided by the FATHER through The Son, Jesus Christ WILL live for eternity.
Many do not believe the Promise of God. Why? Is it pride? Arrogance? Or is it lack of knowledge? If physical death came to me this moment, I am confident that I would step over the invisible line into an eternal life with Him. If you died this moment...where would you be? It is a legitimate question to ask oneself. Why would one take the chance of being WRONG? What would you have to loose? It's ONLY your soul. Right? - scroogereport, on 09/22/2008, -0/+9Another winner....reland1!

- oldhick, on 09/22/2008, -0/+6Why take the chance of being wrong? This is an interesting question that if I'm not mistaken, CS Lewis (among others) also asked. It's interesting to me because it seems to be tossed out by those with faith to be answered by those without faith. However, can we not ask ourselves the same question and answer it?
What if we're wrong and God is an illusion or a hopeful wish? What would we have to loose by believing the illusion? Kind of a pointless game to play right? How many of us are really going to play games with faith and science and life and death.
Shoot, its hard for me to imagine a world in which God doesn't exist and I'm not sure I even want to. So it is because of this knowledge (that I don't play the game) that I don't ask the question of those without faith. For what would faith be worth if it was simply based on the desire to not be wrong or the fear of eternal damnation. Faith out of fear seems like no faith at all.
I also disagree that this is the "story of our time". While tragic, this is the story for everyone's time. Those of us with faith have used the tragic deaths of those around us all too often to motivate others to be mindful of their faith. I'm almost ashamed to do so anymore. "Be alert. Be watchful. Be ready." I understand full well that these are motivational terms designed to invoke a diligence towards ones faith. But aren't there FAR better ways for people to be motivated?
Do you really think God wants you to keep the faith, to be alert and to be ready because of some "appointment he's going to keep".
He wants us to love him. He wants us to be alert and be ready because we love living right here and right now. He wants us to wake up and be excited to step outside tomorrow into THIS life. THIS mortal life that we have right now that is full of sin and temptation. Wake up and love God and love serving him. Wake up and love him for creating this world around us and giving us a chance to live in it and to change it. He didn't put us here so that we could struggle through to the afterlife. He put us here to love him and love each other.
Just my two cents. Great article though and THANK YOU so much for posting it and commenting. I hope that my comment is received in the spirit which it was meant, which was simply to provide another view and spur discussion. Let me know your thoughts. - Literaturfan, on 09/21/2008, -2/+7What a horrible story! Sometimes I think that there's no justice in our world.

- USCooper, on 09/26/2008, -0/+3Paul was my uncle. The memorial service was amazing. Around 2000 people came and just seeing the amount of people Paul influenced throughout his life was comforting and astounding as well. Here are a few links I uploaded to youtube. One is local news coverage and my aunt talking about it, the other is a video Paul's church made and was played at his church and the memorial service. I love that it was done with his own words from sermon recordings.
