- thinkingserious, on 12/10/2007, -7/+59Ouch @ the dude on the fire hydrant.
- gbarberi, on 12/10/2007, -3/+45There's no other place to sit. And it's really not that bad.
- whymanwhy, on 12/10/2007, -0/+13I sit on them if need be, not bad.
- LostinService, on 12/10/2007, -1/+46It's actually not a fire hydrant. It's a siamese water-pipe. It's flat at the top, unlike a fire hydrant. Tho from the initial appearance it does look like he's got a foot high dome with a thick tip up his ass.
- Shawn4168, on 12/10/2007, -5/+5I'm thinking that picture was taken in San Francisco?
- themastersb, on 12/10/2007, -0/+4I sit on them and they're actually quite pleasureful.
- nighthawk8713, on 12/11/2007, -0/+1It's probably the only spot he can get a good Wi Fi connection.
- shiftt, on 12/11/2007, -0/+1For the record, they've started installing spikes around those things to prevent people from sitting on them - that photo is obsolete ;)

- rossnyc, on 12/10/2007, -0/+11I'm on 34th/7th...just today a white guy about 25-30 yrs old, who appeared to be on acid, was walking down the sidewalk in a bath robe singing and I think I was the only one who noticed or thought it was strange.
- gbarberi, on 12/11/2007, -1/+2Dude... It's New York. What did you expect? If we turned around every time we saw something strange, our heads would fall off before we hit 30.

- MrMinit, on 12/10/2007, -0/+76The fire hydrant guy is surely cracking some WEP-networks.
- Urusai, on 12/10/2007, -3/+3Crack? More often than not you can find yourself an open network.
- TomTruelle, on 12/11/2007, -0/+3shouldve left it at "crack?"

- Urusai, on 12/10/2007, -3/+3Crack? More often than not you can find yourself an open network.
- Coven, on 12/10/2007, -1/+60Whats up with the "Wait for Green Light" sign? Those are all over the country, and indicate that there is a delay from the time the cross street gets their red light to the street you're on getting the green light (either to facilitate a turning lane or allow pedestrians to cross). That picture is hardly indicative of "Only in New York". Not to mention the fact that NOWHERE in New York City will you find anything other than a yellow painted traffic light.
Now...the two jackasses who just *had* to get through the toll booth before the other guy. THAT just screams "New York City driver"- PolarBearFire, on 12/10/2007, -2/+17I live in NYC and I'm thinking that the "wait for green light signs" are for out of towners who try to do right turns on reds. This is illegal in NYC but legal in New York State and most every else.
- Dubbsacc, on 12/10/2007, -1/+6No wonder no one drives their own car.
- Sabarok, on 12/10/2007, -0/+1Montreal is the same thing. It's illegal to turn right on a red, and there are signs that say "wait for the green light". There are lots of jokes here about burning reds by going through the yellow. When you go through a yellow, you always look up to see if the light turns red while you're pasing under it, and when it does, for a moment you feel a bit of guilt, but then look behind you and see that 2 cars followed you through.
- wazzie, on 12/10/2007, -0/+0That's how we do it in New Orleans. It is bad when you wait a second at a green light to make sure everyone has stopped.
- rezist, on 12/11/2007, -0/+2and then you get a photo three weeks later of your car in the middle of the intersection with a $150 dollar fine.
- Coven, on 12/10/2007, -0/+7No the "Wait For Green Light" signs are usually there when the green light gets delayed by a turning signal on the cross street, turning vehicles coming in from the other direction, or pedestrians being given a chance to cross before vehicular traffic gets the go ahead. It has nothing to do with out of towners making right turns on red.
- cyberwiz01, on 12/10/2007, -2/+13In California, we have signs that say "NO TURN ON RED" I think that makes a lot more sense than "wait for green light"
- binnis, on 12/11/2007, -1/+1There's only no turn on red in Brooklyn. It doesn't apply to the other boroughs unless there are signs.
- Coven, on 12/11/2007, -0/+3You go ahead and try to make a right turn on red in any of the other four boroughs. Enjoy the nice little moving violation you'll find yourself in possession of.

- Coven, on 12/11/2007, -0/+3You go ahead and try to make a right turn on red in any of the other four boroughs. Enjoy the nice little moving violation you'll find yourself in possession of.
- SheaGK, on 12/11/2007, -0/+1Wait for green isn't the same as no turn on red. Wait for green implies that there's a delay between the other direction turning red and you turning green, not that you can't turn on red.
Though, it might be state specific. What I just said definitely applies for PA though.
- xfirei, on 12/10/2007, -3/+2That sign "wait for green is not in NYC. it might be from an intersection in White Plains. just another way of saying no turn on red really.
- LordKaT, on 12/10/2007, -1/+1It IS in New York City. Check out most of the intersections on 6th. Staten Island is also ripe with them, as well as North Bronx.
- Coven, on 12/10/2007, -0/+2It is NOT in NYC. All traffic lights in NYC are painted yellow. The ones pictured are green.
- Coven, on 12/10/2007, -0/+3In White Plains, right turns are permitted on red. If it is one of those rare intersections where you cannot make the turn, it will say "No right turn permitted on red", not "Wait for green light"
- xfirei, on 12/11/2007, -0/+3intersection of Knollwood rd(100a) and Tarrytown rd (119). right off of 287 "wait for green light" sign is hanging there
- Coven, on 12/11/2007, -0/+1But "Wait for green" is an instruction to the vehicles going straight. You can still make the right turn on red. Unless there is a sign specifically stating "No right turn on red", you can make that right.
- xfirei, on 12/11/2007, -0/+3intersection of Knollwood rd(100a) and Tarrytown rd (119). right off of 287 "wait for green light" sign is hanging there

Dugg, because its just so true.
Thats actually one of the reasons I like visiting NYC. Driving on Broadway during rush hour is like a fight to the death.- vdubski, on 12/10/2007, -0/+4That picture is actually from Buffalo, NY. I drove by it the day that happened, never saw so many people with the WTF look on their faces.
- norman619, on 12/10/2007, -0/+8I spent a week in NYC visiting my sister. Her husband thought I drove too timid for NYC. I actually obey the traffic laws and drive defensively. He told me I gotta learn to drive more offensively if I plan on moving to NYC. I always thought traffic lights and signs were meant to be obeyed. Silly me.
- IglooBurner, on 12/10/2007, -0/+3hahah little do u know... here's an advice for u... stay away from taxi drivers on the right lane.
- badjoke, on 12/11/2007, -0/+1Here's advice for you, spell out your words. It's not a race.
- Coven, on 12/10/2007, -0/+8He is absolutely right. A timid driver in NYC will never get to where they are going. He is not telling you to run red lights or run over pedestrians. He is telling you to be aggressive, use your horn, and stop being a pushover behind the wheel. No offense to you of course.
- IglooBurner, on 12/10/2007, -0/+3hahah little do u know... here's an advice for u... stay away from taxi drivers on the right lane.
- IglooBurner, on 12/10/2007, -4/+4actually nyc drivers are probably some of the best drivers in the country... it takes skills to drive in this city.. what u see in the toll booth are probably jersey drivers... or upstate new yorkers.
- MCMLXXXII, on 12/10/2007, -2/+5NYC drivers have no idea how to drive on the highways. They will be going 60 in the left lane when all other lanes are empty. Move to the right Dumbass.
- Coven, on 12/10/2007, -0/+2I have to disagree, Igloo. While NYC tends to breed some excellent drivers, most of the people who drive around here are complete idiots. I have to agree with MCMLXXXII and point out the Belt Parkway and the Grand Central.
- phoephus, on 12/11/2007, -0/+4Most NYC drivers are from Pakistan.
- shuaigex, on 12/11/2007, -0/+2The two jerks in the toll booth are in Buffalo, on the other side of NY. That's right on the waterfront. Those toll booths are actually not even there anymore. NT!

- jetboyterp, on 12/10/2007, -2/+7Best city in the world NYC! Naked Cowboy hangs out (no pun intended) in Times Square...where no real NYer ever dares venture. I drive back and forth from the city to Conn. often...you'd be amazed how many times I've seen 2 cars try to go in one to lane...people weave back and forth for the fast lane.
- dinostabOMG, on 12/11/2007, -1/+1It's funny that the people who will claim that New York is the best city in the world can't come up with any reasons other than how awful it is.
- techlyc, on 12/11/2007, -0/+0oh no?! weaving back and forth for the fast lane?! may the FSM help you should you ever try to drive in southern california.
- juventusc, on 12/10/2007, -10/+4one more thing that was on reddit YESTERDAY!!! its getting really sad, most of the front page was actually reddit-24-hours-ago

- erkokite, on 12/10/2007, -0/+3Nothing to see here. Move along.
- tendonut, on 12/10/2007, -0/+5Hah, I remember the toll both incident. That happened not 1 mile from where I am sitting right now. I-190 South heading to downtown Buffalo....love it. They finally took out those damn toll boths. Now my daily commute costs half what it used to....until the Grand Island toll goes up again this month.
- tendonut, on 12/10/2007, -0/+3Just to note, the toll booth incident did not occur in NYC, but the complete opposite side of the state in Buffalo. Thats right on Lake Erie/Niagara River for those who failed geography.
- Chubs879, on 12/11/2007, -0/+2The entire concept of toll booths is beyond me. You're paying for your own car, your own gas, why do you have to pay to use certain sections of roads?

- SeekerDarksteel, on 12/11/2007, -0/+0The naked cowboy travels all over. He's made a showing at Taste of Cincinnati a couple years running.
- marksism, on 12/10/2007, -0/+5The first one is actually in Buffalo, NY just a couple miles from the Peace Bridge. So, still New York, but everyone in the world seems to forget there's a whole ***** state attached to that city.
- Gndoab, on 12/10/2007, -1/+4there is?
- seldon452, on 12/10/2007, -4/+13This is why I love living in New York City. Best city in the world.

- Shawn4168, on 12/10/2007, -1/+2The crazy stuff you've seen in other countries is crazy because you don't live there. It's normal to them. Most of us live in the U.S., and this is crazy stuff happening in our own country.
- dinostabOMG, on 12/11/2007, -1/+1That's because New Yorkers have their heads too far up their asses to go anywhere else. They don't realize what a pile of ***** their city is and how much better and more interesting other places can be.

- danthek54, on 12/10/2007, -0/+2HAD? we still have one-Bloomberg, its just that we try to stray from neo-cons...and like in britain, a campaign based on god almost always fails in nyc. And no, Guliani was not a neo-con when he was the mayor of nyc, he was just a democrat running on a republican ticket, and its the same reason why he'll lose nyc badly. We all know how much of a douche he is
- freakk123, on 12/10/2007, -0/+2Bloomberg is an independent now. And he was never truly republican - look at the mans social policies, they're considerably to the left.
I mean, the biggest difference is that even when Bloomberg was a republican he was (in my opinion) an outstanding mayor, as he continues to be.
Contrast that to Giuliani, who is just, well, a total scumbag who likes to take credit for things he didn't do even more than other politicians.
