- spookyttws, on 02/11/2009, -2/+36I'm sure us Diggers have a huge amount of incite into the ins and outs of gang life. It will certainly be revealed in the comments. I'm sure.
- sockpuppets, on 02/11/2009, -2/+35I was in a gang of puppets as a youth. I was nearly dethreaded and lost a button eye.
COTTON 4 LIFE - JackpotCity, on 02/10/2009, -0/+30I think that this is a pretty accurate statement: "Getting out of a street gang in L.A. is about like getting a tattoo removed: slow, painful and scarring."
I would imagine that it's more difficult to leave alive than to leave. - P1um, on 02/11/2009, -0/+26***** gang culture with all their RESPECT RESPECT RESPECT. I feel sorry for kids who have to grow up around that.
- 6oo63D, on 02/11/2009, -0/+23Aaah, the challenges of leaving Digg... just when I thought I was out, your comment logged me back in.
- s0m31john, on 02/10/2009, -8/+31Protip: Don't join a street gang in the first place.
- inactive, on 02/11/2009, -1/+17I'm of the opinion that American society isn't responsible enough to handle an outright legalization (deregulation of guns, I assume?) of those things.
Walk down the street and ask how someone how many articles are in the Constitution, or what amendment provides them with protection from "excessive bail," and sadly, most wouldn't be able to tell you.
American society is particularly lazy, in the sense that people are born into, what theoretically is a "free society" without having to understanding their obligations to other people in that society. Some political scientists have said that America is great in this regard, that people can choose to be inattentive to the actions of government or apolitical, but I think this is a detriment in the long run.
People are far too focused on their own personal gain, rather than the good of the whole. It permeates every part of our society, from our over glorified entertainment industry, to the criminal bankers on Wall Street -- many people, particularly those in power, put their own self-interest above anything else.
We have an obligation to each other to know our rights by heart. A crime against one is a breech of justice to us all -- and not too many Americans show that in their behaviors and actions.
With what you suggested, we would end up with "Lord of the Flies" -- people going ***** nuts because they are so undereducated on their basic rights, history, and obligations. - inactive, on 02/11/2009, -0/+15See all these thumbs down tattooed on my arm, next to a Rose for Kevin and that ***** linux penguin? I get a new one every time I bury a guy in the yard. You wanna get frontpaged? you gotta work yo way up and earn that RESPECT, preferably by shanking a macfag, or doing tricks for the Babyman.
- Harboggles, on 02/11/2009, -6/+19Legalize guns, drugs, alcohol, and prostitution. Tax the ***** out of it. The gangs lose their sources of illegal income. The gangbangers would get hired to produce said guns, drugs, and some prostitution.
Government != Moral Police - louiebaur, on 02/10/2009, -2/+15Spider. Nice nickname homey
- sloppychris, on 02/11/2009, -2/+14I hear Cesar from GTA San Andreas speaking every quote in this article.
- moothemagiccow, on 02/11/2009, -3/+15why not do the obvious and not join something as homoerotic and ridiculous as a gang in the first place
- capnawesome, on 02/11/2009, -4/+15Yeah, of course, and why doesn't everyone go to college and get a good job? Cause it's that easy, right?
- elfprince13, on 02/11/2009, -0/+10answer: move out of L.A. and don't come back.
- inactive, on 02/11/2009, -0/+7Would the Digg Community be classified as a gang?
- TheTruthHurts, on 02/11/2009, -1/+8glorification of gangs from hollywood and others isn't helping neither
- inactive, on 02/11/2009, -0/+6Just when I thought I was out...they pull me back in.
- FactorVIII, on 02/11/2009, -2/+8It's probably hard for a lot of people on here to think about this, but the lifestyle is addicting. drugs, women, tons of cash, guns, respect from your homeboys. Most of these guys come from poor families with no chance of going to college. or ever doing anything, So they take the easy way and risk death or prison.
- inactive, on 02/11/2009, -0/+6ROFL, you had me at thumbs down tats...
- ohplease, on 02/11/2009, -2/+7
Waaah it's so hard to not be a criminal - lanzemurdok, on 02/11/2009, -1/+6i was in a gang a long time ago. We were cal-I
- inactive, on 02/11/2009, -0/+4What are we inciting?
- Animental, on 02/11/2009, -1/+5I believe it's spelled "RESPECK".
- GoKings, on 02/11/2009, -4/+8Don't get in one, and you won't have to worry about getting out.
- paulmer2003, on 02/11/2009, -1/+5I know it's easy as a typical digger to make a lame comment like, "Oh really? Just move out."
But honestly, there's obviously much more to it than that. You need to understand their situation. You need to realize that these guys come from a very poor background. Chances are they'll spend their entire life working and sweating for ***** pay, never working any worthwhile job.
Their other choice is the ganglife. A community. Respect. Drugs. Fast women, cars and money. All of that *****.
Take a step back guys and try to look at things from their perspective. - inactive, on 02/11/2009, -1/+5I had trouble getting out of a gang called The Small Weenie Mafia.
- Barackalypse, on 02/11/2009, -4/+7Move. Problem solved. Of course anyone weak willed and stupid enough to join a gang probably is too weak willed and stupid to pick up and leave and not come back.
- anderzole, on 02/11/2009, -3/+6Vatos Locos.."Blood in Blood Out" - great movie worth checkin out
- byronm, on 02/11/2009, -0/+3Do you even know what MSM media is? I mean, give me a break. Capitalism is a form of economics and if a free market system your allowed to buy or make whatever you want. Are you saying you don't believe in socialism but you do believe in fascism where people aren't free to write things that you may disagree with? Which way do you want it buddy?
People like you make me laugh. YOU have *NO* Clue and can't even GET OVER YOURSELF. - MYarms, on 02/11/2009, -1/+4dugg for the use of "G'd up" with the quotes and the explanation. lol old white people are funny.
- Med_Dude, on 02/11/2009, -0/+3Da **** you say!?
- inactive, on 02/11/2009, -2/+4YEAH GANG CULTURE REPRESENT!
What do they represent? The further downfall of a culture. Yay for impersonating people who aren't privileged to go to classes. - pacman122, on 02/11/2009, -1/+3"The hooligans are loose" - Bill Hicks
- Harboggles, on 02/11/2009, -0/+2You all have very skewed perceptions of human behavior and the role of government.
- Methyst, on 02/11/2009, -1/+3Most of the gang crack dealers earn less than McEmployees.
Fact - dustblaaze, on 02/11/2009, -0/+2I've joined three gangs so far. I started two, which are good, I started the "kitties" and the "grape slushies", we're getting some respect.. its taken us a while.
- byronm, on 02/11/2009, -0/+2They sure as ***** aren't real men.
- Surgeon62, on 02/11/2009, -0/+2There are a lot of cultural factors that come into play with this. It's not always as simple as everyone makes it sound. Not joining a gang in the first place sounds like the obvious answer to us but the results of this search:
google.com/search?hl=en&q=%22forced+to+join+a+gang%22&btnG=Search
show how the choice to join or not is not as easy as we might think.
Although in some cases it is very difficult, moving from a neighborhood where kids promote gang culture may be the best solution. Get kids away from a situation where they have friends and schoolmates that are already involved in it. - MainManMoni, on 02/12/2009, -0/+2Since, ya know, gangs aren't national or anything.
Since, ya know, people's siblings don't get killed while they're in prison as retribution.
Since, ya know, people under Witness Protection don't get murdered.
I'm not saying that's how all gangs are, and it might not be the case for the guys in this article, but everyone here is acting like gang members are just wussies or something. A lot of them are totally ignorant, mentally weak people, yes. But for some, the options are you either get beat up by these dudes daily or you join them. - sjmulder, on 02/11/2009, -0/+2What's his spider tatoo valued at?
- toxicshok, on 02/11/2009, -0/+2but they do it for a chance to move up into higher levels in the gang, where they will make lots of money, something a McEmployee could never do. Not justifying what they do, just explaining why

Bad use of commas (F- see me after class) - DAILYCROW, on 07/27/2009, -0/+1Dick Cheney would be akin to the highest achievement of gang leadership. He doesn't want to leave his life style.
By the way: He doesn't spend time in jails, he invests in them.
It all about control. - Saitekc, on 02/12/2009, -0/+1Haha I was about to say the same thing, it's so stereotypical!
- Icetype, on 02/12/2009, -0/+1I could solve this all with a space-laser.
- NegativeDigg, on 02/11/2009, -2/+3blood in blood out...
- inactive, on 02/11/2009, -0/+1Incorrect sir
- byronm, on 02/11/2009, -0/+1Hate to break it to you but you don't need to be a gangbanger to have drugs, women, cash, guns and respect.
- inactive, on 02/11/2009, -0/+1This is a good idea on paper, but i have a feeling it leads to richer people getting drugs and guns...
- MadHarvey, on 02/11/2009, -0/+1I once knew a former Crip.
He quit the gang, went to college, and became one of the better engineers I knew.
I always think of that when people say they are unable to change their circumstances in life... - MYarms, on 02/11/2009, -0/+1Oh and because these people are poor its acceptable to join a gang? That's a pretty pathetic argument.
