      Epic Fail

      I was a natural hurdle-jumper. I took to it like a fish in water. I have long legs and I could just step over the hurdles. My coach was knocked over the first time he saw me run hurdles.
      But I couldn't compete! I totally lost it in competition. My timing was off, my footing was completely scrambled so I would end up at the hurdle too far or too short. My coach tried everything but I just couldn't compete. It was too nerverwracking for me. Finally he dropped me. When people saw me in practice I would see my coach pointing at me and dropping his head in his hands. I just couldn't compete.

  • cleanideas, on 02/22/2008, -2/+3It's OK to fail at something, and it's OK to quit due to that failure. It doesn't make you less of a person, it just means that there is something else out their that you will succeed at, something that will bring you more enjoyment, you just need to figure out what that is. It's also OK to play it safe. Taking calculated risk is fine, but if you constantly throw caution to the wind and fail, and do not quit to try something else, not only will you have missed an opportunity to succeed at something else, you'll end up in one of the following states: extreme debt, depression, injured, or dead. If you're under 30 you don't yet have the life experience as older people to know life can't be lived by some motivational speech of "Never give up". Certain things you do, you WILL fail at. You WILL need to give up, or life will kick your ass even more so and cute little pictures of hurdle jumping will be of no use.
