- AmyVernon, on 06/24/2008, -0/+14that's a shame. i enjoyed checking out the fun stuff you linked to. it was a cool way to find interesting submissions on digg. :-(
- inactive, on 07/21/2008, -0/+12You know, I've been thinking about this since I first saw this post, and I decided I should say something - for a long time I've been biting my tongue about all the hate crews on digg and all their covert hate-ops, and their petty hate-minions. It's beyond me as to who's really behind it all - be it the mythical bury brigade, the digg team, or just your run-of-the-mill, petty, 13yo haters. Still, I wrote it off, waiting for the time to pick my battle - and I choose now.
Lew, what a shame. This shouldn't have happened. Your blog was a unique forum on digg, about digg, and was very creative in that respect. Not tolerating spam is one thing, but your blog wasn't spam, and what happened to it was censorship of something creative, which should never be tolerated. You helped in creating a niche for you and people in your network, and I thought it was interesting - you guys are like digg community 2.0. You’re tight, and you support each other, and help each other make FP. I just think maybe you were too much 2.0 for many 1.0 haters (whom are so last week).
I believe it was Abbie Hoffman who said something to the effect of, “If there’s a police officer living inside your head, kill it.” So, I wanna call out all the digg cops who rat people out in threads for spelling errors, and all the digg nazis who rat people out in threads for their subs being ‘old news,’ and all the digg haters who bury decent content and popular blogs because they have no friends, and they’re just pouting b/c Lew P does.
If anybody feels the same way, and wants to protest censorship, I ask that they remain vigilant of any digg narcs or cops, or what-have-you - and when the time comes, pick your battle and say something, even at the risk of being buried or banned yourself. - life38, on 06/24/2008, -1/+10I did not find your posts to be spam and I specifically used the posts to identify other readings I wanted. I find their stance pretty amazing since when you look at all of the posts on Digg, there are a large number of posts that are from many different sites. Some it awful and I ignore, others bad taste and others useful. It is about taste. The spam and bury feature allows others to manipulate what the rest of us can read. As a mutual friend if I did not like your material I could turn off the mutual friend feature for you. When I look at some comments people leave on peoples posts I am like why are you even reading it. The posts clearly was not intended for that persons taste.
So Digg needs to improve upon this area because what I call the "Negative Unhappy Person" is controlling more of Digg then they should. - greytfriend, on 06/24/2008, -0/+8I don't understand the people who feel the need to police, either. If you don't like it, don't digg it. Unless it's outright selling something or such, just let it live. Especially something that gets so much support as the DDD. Sorry, Lew, but still looking forward to your submissions. Don't give up on Digg and your friends here.
- AussieCynic, on 06/24/2008, -2/+10Hey mate.. that suxs...
truly... any way to recover it at all...???? - ConradDanger, on 06/24/2008, -1/+8It's just digg. Self promotion is a no-no. But I would not give up yet LewP, I still have the ponyexpress bookmarked as would all of your digg friends. Isn't that right guys?
- loupdargent, on 06/24/2008, -0/+5My main blog has been "banned" quite a while ago (on the 1st of April, actually)...
After that, and a few other underhanded tactics I found out, I couldn't but conclude that Digg was a no-go area for blogs...
Why are new bloggers still being advised by so-called probloggers to use Digg is beyond me. I mean, it's well known now that this place is anti-bloggers... and they don't even try to hide it, for Pete's sake! So, why, oh why, oh why, still encouraging new bloggers to join Digg? Some A-Listed bloggers having a twisted sense of humour, perhaps?! :-(
Fortunately, I've found that there was life after Digg...
So I'm not too bothered about what the bury brigade thinks or doesn't think.
And I'm rather happy to give them the virtual finger whenever I can. ;-)
It was sad though to find out about your blog while on a one of my, now rare, visits to Digg.
As one of the commenters said: "that suxs..." - Surferess, on 06/24/2008, -0/+4I am so bad I never even read the TOS. That is the first time I have seen any of it. All these rules take away from my digging time. Personally, I wish digg would leave Lew alone and concentrate on fixing the tech problems, i.e. submissions broken, my diggs number always says 296 diggs no matter what I do, and and and.
- inactive, on 06/24/2008, -0/+4A shame. I always read the DDD an enjoyed it.
- inactive, on 06/24/2008, -0/+4Thanks for all the great comments.
- westbay1, on 06/24/2008, -0/+4Quality content banned... yup, sounds like Digg. Seems as if the policing is getting out of control. The blog is in no way spam... heck, there's not even any Adsense advertising... now that's unique! Don't stop writing... your blog has a following!
- manzplan, on 06/24/2008, -0/+4I agree with banning certain content (kiddie porn, stuff like that) BUT all else should be open.. if people dont like it.. they wont digg it.. simple as that.
glad you at least got an answer.. even if it sucked.
As far as self promotion goes - if you dont promote yourself.. who will? - inactive, on 06/24/2008, -0/+3hey bro, dugg. sorry to hear that.
- loupdargent, on 06/24/2008, -0/+2The thing is, I would have been ready to change my blog format and even my submitting "habits" if they had had the decency to talk to me first before making my main blog un-diggable.
But, hey... Not only it's a blog, but it's also a blogspot.com one, so why would they waste their "valuable" time trying to help its owner becoming a "proper" Digger? ;-) - inactive, on 06/24/2008, -0/+2Actually Digg does allow self promotion of blogs as long as your blog is not simply relaying(they call it a conduit) news from another original source. Since they do allow this, they should also have published standards on where they draw the line between simple self-promotion and spam. There are several sites that have published guidelines on how many times within a week you can submit from your own blog or say that you can not do it at all. I believe propeller even sends you an email if they believe you are self-promoting too much. Digg needs to clarify these guidelines.
- inactive, on 06/24/2008, -1/+3Thanks Aussie.
I've thought about the possibility of continuing the DDD, but I couldn't ever submit it to Digg. So in essence, I could technically continue to write the DDD, but would get no Diggs for it as I wouldn't be able to submit it to digg. So what payback would I get for the DDD? I hope that makes sense. It makes me sound like a greedy bastard doesn't it?
I have had problems with Digg about it all week. First, they didn't like my commenting "Dugg and submitted to today's DDD". They actually banned me for 6 hours for that last week. And then they had the great idea of just not accepting any URL's from the Pony Express blog. So really, I guess i can take the hint they don't want the DDD anywhere around Digg. Of course now I'm thining of doing it to piss em off..LOL
I dunno Aussie, I just don't understand why the big deal against the DDD. - inactive, on 06/24/2008, -1/+3I know I get buried a lot because I write my own blog content. I am sure I get reported as well. That is why I keep my submissions at a modest level. I thought it was a great "up yours" to all the "blog haters" on Digg when one of my posts was picked up by the NYT and ESPN. It does show that Digg can work for bloggers and even the haters can not get you buried if you strike a cord with the community.
- inactive, on 06/24/2008, -1/+2Thanks Life, and I agree 100%!
- ConradDanger, on 06/25/2008, -0/+1Agreed.
- inactive, on 06/24/2008, -1/+2Thanks Amy...maybe we can start a petition?
- agisten, on 06/25/2008, -1/+1Go ahead and bury me, But I've had enough with the motherfarking DDD rants on the motherfarking Digg!
Go ride your pony home!

What is Digg?
