Expensive....? - Caboose101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+25Jet + [vehicle of choice] = dugg
- piesforyou, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26Er, what are you guys talking about? The measurement on the sign? That's a speed limit sign. How can you possibly conclude it bears any relationship to the actual speed of the bike?
- interiot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22http://www.jetcatusa.com/ is one place. They're pretty friggin' expensive though due to the tight machine tolerances required. Usually these sorts of engines are used in RC planes and helicopters.
Here's an impressive way to lose a lot of cash: http://youtube.com/watch?v=ENcIZVx-o9c - SamsLembas, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18Unless they used a high speed camera for the video and then slowed the video down, there is no way he was going anywhere near 70. Anyway, I doubt the bike would stay in one piece for that ;)
EDIT: Actually, since that video is German, the measurement on the sign is in kilometers per hour. That is about 43 mph. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15sounds like a fair equation to me
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15yeah, i wanna ride around on an aluminum frame with a few gallons of rocket fuel under my balls and flames coming out under my ass. looks very wyl e. coyote, if you ask me.
- answr42, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12those engines alone cost $4000+ a piece... that is one expensive crotch-rocket!
- ReaperUnreal, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14Wait... was he actually going 70? That's pretty impressive, and hideously dangerous on such a bike.
- Yashu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Where do you get mini jet engines!??!
I have seen these before on other "strap a jet engine to something" video... but where do you go buy a mini jet engine?
I mean... they are pretty damn cool... is there a dealer somewheres or something? - schoofman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9as a youtuber said: "What about the brakes?"
normal bicycle brakes wouldn't do much for you when you really need them.
but i really like how fire comes out of both engines.... reminds me of the '50s bat bike - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Yes you could buy a ducati for the same price and it would be much faster... but i have to admit, having the sound of 2 jet engines pushing you along would be pretty cool.
- vexter, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9This is great. Digg++
- banderbe, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10That can't be environmentally friendly!
I'm calling Algore!!!! - thebudgie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Put fuel with a wide explosive range in air inside a metal tank that will produce no end of sparks the moment it comes in contact with the road and inevitably bursts?
Just checking. - arcangelgabriel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Wow.
- kokorhekkus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Wonder what the people in the cars behind him thought when he zipped uphill without pedalling. I'd like to hear their commentary.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6@culbeda. did you see him accelerate, i dont think there was any torque on the frame... and as for tyres and wheels, the engines arent powering the wheels, it is powering directly onto the air from the rear. so there wouldnt really be any extra wear on the tyres unless he is going over about 70-80kp/h
but still, point noted, there are a fair few other things might need to be looked into before doing that - culbeda, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6"What about the brakes?"
What about the tires, wheels, torque on the frame, etc.?
Even if you never had to stop that contraption, there are still any number of ways in which you could kill yourself on that thing.
I'd be wearing Evil Kenevil padding to ride that thing! - zephc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Not as cool as http://www.bird-man.com/?n=windtunnel&nose=20 and http://www.bird-man.com/?n=windtunnel&nose=6
- banderbe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Get two guys each on one of those and revive the lost sport of jousting!
- iNunchuk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This belongs in the Canadian Military, perfect replacement to our aging F-16's
- YourTechSupport, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Or buy a Ducati, and mount a dozen of those things on it.

- whisk3rs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3apachet2: bike fall apart? ...tell that to the cross country bikers who travel 50+ mph down hills and ***** and do that for hours on end.
I bet their bikes aren't purple.
/Points in the direction of Bobby Root doing 65+ mph manuals:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6JA0tW1V1p8 - there, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"this seemed like some dude on a motorcycle with a jet's noise superimposed........."
As crazy as it sounds... no. That's actually an turbine engine on a motorcycle.
I've never been quite sure how it became street legal since noise is a big issue with that 230 MPH badboy. (theoretically capable of 400+ kph with alternate gear ratios). I've pictures of Leno driving around LA in one. - marinist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Cool, still I have to wonder for the cost of those jet turbines, could you buy yourself a Ducati?
- perkonis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"What else to say?"
Hey y'all watch this. - wvannus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2A friend of mine that has turbine RC planes uses biodiesel. Plastic tanks are lighter and more puncture resistant.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Most likely jet fuel : | ...im sure that the plastic tub is resistant to the fuel though.
- apache2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3bike fall apart? ...tell that to the cross country bikers who travel 50+ mph down hills and ***** and do that for hours on end.
- rtbenson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The pro European sprinters can go that fast without turbo jets.
- culbeda, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"did you see him accelerate, i dont think there was any torque on the frame... and as for tyres and wheels, the engines arent powering the wheels, it is powering directly onto the air from the rear. so there wouldnt really be any extra wear on the tyres unless he is going over about 70-80kp/h"
At the speed he was traveling, there wasn't much torque of any kind. But they didn't exactly strike me as the time to calculate everything out in advance. The wrong fuel mixture and/or miscalculation of thrust could equal disaster in any number of ways, not the least of which is having your bike rolling end over end with the rider holding on for dear life. - jmack111, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Where do I buy mine??
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Looking at this just makes me cringe after a bike accident I had in the summer that resulted in a broken elbow.. the idea of a jet engine bike prior to that would have been cool, but now it scares me.
- StarCrusher, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Putting a jet on a motorcycle is for wussies! How about 237 kph on a bicycle?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0sy4wfl38tg&NR - n1f7y, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1that otta pick up chicks ;)
- SonofMaug, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What I'm trying to figure out is that he put $8,000 worth of jet enigine on about $8.00 worth of plywood and calls it a day, what a schmuck! He would totally deserve to be man-rammed by one of the engines with that setup.

- Fascist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I say a DIY hoverboard is safer, more fun, and cheaper.
http://www.makezine.com/blog/archive/2006/02/diy_hoverboard.html - clipper453, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm just thinking how funny it will be when one of those engines breaks off that cheap piece of plywood an hits the guy right in the nuts.
- Mattman1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1only you can prevent forest fires!
- Comatose51, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1A decent road bike is easily capable of going 60+ MPH without falling apart. You can hit that fairly easily going downhill.
- skyhighrockets, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2My dad has a Ducati.
- adml_shake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1In a partnership with Pratt & Whitney
- shotmenot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1jet powered dildos? thats a new one
- zonk3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That bike may not be the most expensive bike but add the jet engines to it and the value goes waaay up. Model airplane jet engines are ridiculously expensive and they are smaller than the ones he's using...
- hotdrop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1how dose he stoP?
