- Electric_Sheep, on 10/12/2007, -14/+105You're right Pabster, nobody buys his ***** movies anyway...
Fahrenheit 911 grossed nearly $120 million in U.S. box office, and over $220 million worldwide, an unprecedented amount for a political documentary; Sony reported first-day DVD sales of two million copies, again a new record for the genre. The film has grossed a further $99 million overseas.
Yeah. Nobody. - fifalover, on 10/12/2007, -4/+80I'm not surprised. I think you'd get that answer from most documentary film makers.
- Diggtatorship, on 10/12/2007, -41/+112I'm torn.
Do I digg it because its Pro-P2P or do I bury it because its Michael Moore? - ClassicJBC, on 10/12/2007, -7/+62Now that the majority of the country agrees that the Iraq War is a huge debacle, why is Michael Moore still villified for making a documentary on said war? How quick people are to forget the transgressions of our political leaders, but grudges against celebrities last forever.
- Providence, on 10/12/2007, -4/+40Kudos to him (though I still don't like the man)
He has a good point too. Sharing over the internet is basically the same as handing a copy to a friend. - Rosco, on 10/12/2007, -6/+38You know, I live near the guy and even though I may not agree with some of his ideas I admire his conviction and am glad to see he is on board with file sharing. Don't judge Mr. Moore for the things you only hear about in the press, he really is a nice guy.

http://news.com.com/Fahrenheit+94711+sparks+file-sharing+flare-up/2100-1026_3-5255240.html - eatingbrb, on 10/12/2007, -6/+32Handing a DVD over to a friend isn't the same as duplicating it.
Still, I agree that copyright laws are far too strict and antiquated. - nikebud, on 10/12/2007, -4/+27So... let me get this straight. If you don't like what he has to say, it's because he's fat?
Grow up. - Electric_Sheep, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21LazzyRussian, "because he can't get laid."
He has a better chance of getting laid than you. He's married to the producer Kathleen Glynn, has millions and oh yeah, he has a child. - brutalentropy, on 10/12/2007, -5/+20@Electric_Sheep:
Don't bother responding to pabster, he's a troll. If you don't believe me, look at his posting history... he makes incendiary statements and then never replies to any of the responses. - Sedako, on 10/12/2007, -18/+31I guess he hasn't heard that you can't download free burritos.
- oxyrubber, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16He is very left/liberal. He sees problems with the world (and the way this country is). He wants change so he brings the problems he sees to light.
There's nothing terrible about that. Without people like him (trying to change the status quo), the country would have fallen into apathy long before Bush Jr. got into office. - duality, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13"It's a loose, loose situation."
As opposed to a "tight, tight" situation?
Edit: Darn it, ScottMaximus beat me to the joke. Never mind. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+18That's Lose
You ***** Uneducated *****. I hope you eat ***** and die. - IHateScreenName, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11You guys should reread Providence's post, it said "handing a COPY to a friend" (emphasis added), it didn't say anything about the original.
- ragnorok999, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11I wish all artists (music, graphic, or otherwise) would take the same viewpoint..
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12theOther:
What is your point, exactly? You didn't contradict anything electric_sheep said.
And, you're looking at US figures, not worldwide. - xenoploid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9The analogy of online file sharing and the traditional sharing of physical copies is just ridiculous. The problem lies with the online business model of media distributors. Copyright holders need to offer cheap, non-DRM, convenient high-quality content. Charging $15 dollars for a virtual copy of an album or dvd is also ridiculous. There's no packaging or physical disc, and ***** unpopular content is basically the same price as popular content. It's the model that doesn't make sense. The overhead of digital distribution is so low, and the manufacturing cost is virtually zero, so they should be offering cheap content (like allofmp3.com), and tiered pricing based on popularity of sales. Lower retail costs will create MORE people buying MORE content.
- Rosco, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14@ ZenMojo
No, he hires people, all kinds. He is an equal opportunity employer. He doesn't see colors in people, what he does see is their personality and worth as an individual. - foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9"It's a loose, loose situation."
Dammit, its not "loose". Its "lose"
When will people learn?
"loose" is a adjective. "lose" is a verb.
Two completely different things.
Dammit. duality2 got here before me.
And I didn't get ScottMaximum's comment. - TheDiggMan, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12Kinda off topic, but look at this video clip from Family Guy (It has to do with Michael Moore). It's hilarious:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qCMCWx747dQ - oxyrubber, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9He is not the only one with rights to his movies. The distributors, the investors, and other parties all make money when a DVD sells. Each party has a vested interest in seeing that this movie isn't copied. Moore may not prosecute you, but that doesn't mean the other investors and copyright holders won't.
If he invested every cent, directred, produced, and distributed it himself then this might mean something. This question was just about one person's opinion on the situation of sharing movies (mostly his movie in particular). - drizek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7He was asked if he felt that f911 should be distributed freely and he said yes. He never told anyone to go download britney spears latest album.
- tastypastry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Doesn't really matter. Your favorite band can say "download all of our albums off the net for free" but its the record labels that are going to say "hey if you download any of this bands albums you are committing a crime and will be prosecuted."
- Justin6512, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12have some respect loser
- PatrickFisher, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10So, does that mean I won't get sued if I download one of his movies?
- Namco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Michael Moore presents a point of view. It may be unpopular to some. If you don't agree with him, just move along and STFU.
I had a similar opinion about him that he was a fat *****, full of BS, but I actually watched his documentaries. I found that the point of view he presents is extremely valuable. For example, in F91, he calls into question many aspects about the war, the possible motivations behind it, just other points of view that I hadn't thought of. He brings to light the possiblity and the realization of how we as a country can be gamed by a Texas oilman, his hawkish cronies, and the partisan accomplices in the house and senate. Doesn't mean it's true, it just makes you think. It is the American way to challenge and call into question the motivation of your leaders. It is unamerican to sit by and let an administration ruin the country.
Also this is a great bunch of comments because it exposes ignorant trolls like shinta and theother1 so I can block them :) - oMeSSiaHo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Is this what we do when someone says something we dont agree with, we call them fat pigs and wish them death?! WTF is wrong with you people? If you dont agree with someone point out what you dont agree with and say why. What do you have to gain by mouthing off and insulting someone?
On topic, a friend let me watch "The Royal Tannenbaums" and because I liked it so much I bought it. Because I watched his copy the company made money, win-win. - michaelbeckham, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Finally a sane person, people are always still going to buy the movies its always a minority pirating them. I totally agree with him.
- reed311, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11Whats up with all the Michael Moore hatred? You should read some of his older books. He criticized Clinton just as much as he did Bush. It turns out he was RIGHT about the Iraq war the entire time, before some of you started jumping on the anti-war bandwagon. You've broken the man down to lame stereotypes of him being overweight and him lying (which he never has in his projects).
- omnithought, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I'm curious, given the mixture of beliefs on digg, who is "you guys" and who said that Moore was their hero?
The submitter certainly didn't offer any bias whatsoever in his post. He just said "Hey, here's Michael Moore and here's what he said about file sharing." Everything else is all in your head. - phoenix3200, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I detest everything Michael Moore stands for. Michael Moore defends file sharing. Therefore, I now hate file sharing.
Wait...what??? Nooooooooooo....... - Shinta, on 10/12/2007, -11/+14WTF he has a child? God save us
- michaelbeckham, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Michael, learn to spell.
- blackkbot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Really?? I was just thinking about buying it. Thanks. I will look there.
- ZombieNinja, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Everyone is entiteld to there own opinion. I agree with Mr. Moore. and Wish him to ROCK ON m/(>.
- Osjpr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"lol -- wow, like "having a child" is some major accomplishment."
Read the ***** referred quote (ie "he can't get laid"). - omnithought, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I bet, if he was quoted directly and not named, then hardly anyone would have found anything wrong with it. Amazing how many ignorant people will digg down very valid ideas just because they don't like the guy who shared them.
All those who dislike Moore would have had no problem with the very same words coming out of the mouth of someone on their side. This is why partisanship is just retarded. - drizek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Thats very true. I just watched Iraq For Sale by robert greenwald. Its a very good movie and really helps you understand whats going on over there. At the end of the movie he says to organize a screening.
To that end, http://www.mininova.org/tor/441881 - alwaysmc2, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6I must admit.
I clicked on the link to the video expecting to be angered by his raving bantering, but I was pleasantly surprised by his frank and sincere tone.
Now, I don't quite agree with him fully (because what about those artists who don't want there work shared freely), but I do respect his opinion. - hectazee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I live in a country where the only movies you get are hollywood. So any other movie has a really low chance of being shown on the theaters or even be bought in a local store. When I like a DVD I usually have to order it from companies like Amazon that ship overseas. So, if it wasn't for file sharing theres a bunch of movies I could not have watched (Oldboy, A scanner darkly, Donnie Darko are on the top of my mind.) Still, when I download the movie and like it alot, I'll buy the DVD, overseas, from Amazon. So if it wasn't for file sharing, there's a lot of movies I would not have seen.
- neszis, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7Yes. Yes it does.
- cantoral, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Richard Stallman comes to mind.
http://www.stallman.org/
He started the Open Source movement. Moore, Eric Raymond, and Stallman, are freedom fighters; long live the revolution. - thunderl, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3you are douche, because your mind is not open for other points of view.
- neszis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I'm saying that there are already films out there being distributed for free, but people aren't watching them. The reason is that the film's free distribution also mean that they can't pay for advertising for the film, and no one goes out of their way to see it.
- maxdamage, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2As far as copyright laws are concerned, it is the same.
- maehem, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Who is this Micheal Moore guy? I guess I'll have to torrent his movies now to find out what he's all about.
- InfamousX241, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I agree 100% with what he just said.
- johnny23, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I think the problem with the large media corporations is that they don't ever see a return on investment with actually giving something away.
After downloading Bowling for Columbine from Usenet, I bought the DVD...then bought a couple of his books, then bought Fahrenheit 9/11 DVD.
I don't blindly agree with everything he says, but I do find him quite entertaining...and I do agree with him on this issue. -
