Congratulations. - Carbamide, on 07/05/2009, -5/+26Did a 5 year old write this article? It told me absolutely nothing.
- primatage, on 07/05/2009, -2/+18i see what you did there...outSTANDING warrant...
- TugOSpiegel, on 07/05/2009, -1/+14that was lame...
- noirbass, on 07/05/2009, -1/+13Now he can walk up to his wife to beat her then? I say good riddance.
- twiztidsinz, on 07/05/2009, -0/+11Déjà vu... Didn't this happen a few months ago?
- undervalued, on 07/05/2009, -0/+10this is what spiderman would have really been like
- SystemicThought, on 07/05/2009, -0/+10Goddamn I'm sick of hearing this "medical miracle spider bite" crap.
The guy was "paralyzed." He suffered severe nerve damage, spinal if I believe, but they weren't completely destroyed, and began to heal. He was hospitalized for a spider bite, and the doctors noticed completely unrelated nerve activity in his paralyzed extremities. They put him through rehab to further the nerve recovery and make him functional. The only thing the spider bite did was get doctors to look at him to notice his nerves were active. It could have been a drug overdose, a car accident, the swine flu, a concussion from wheelchair rugby, anything that happened to get him under a doctor's observation. It just happened that it was a spider bite. It never should have been news in the first place. - thundacatblue, on 07/05/2009, -0/+8With great power...
- eric1071, on 07/05/2009, -0/+7you sir, offended 5 year old's around the world will that backhanded comment.
- kolobcreek, on 07/05/2009, -0/+7He probably couldn't get there because he COULDN'T WALK
Besides how domestically abusive could you be if you're in a wheel chair?
he was probably like "Bitch..... get me my colostomy bag!" "don't make me roll over there" - DanielFaraday, on 07/05/2009, -0/+6The story was so happy until the last 2 lines.
Oh look a miracle man, he was saved by something that might have killed another, oh wow, he gets to walk his kids down the aisle, oh look he hits his wife.
Downer.... - AmyVernon, on 07/05/2009, -1/+7I'm so confused. Should I be happy or sad that he can walk again?
- pingpants, on 07/05/2009, -0/+6Was he still wheelchair bound when he was arrested on domestic abuse charges? Or did he use his miraculous new found mobility to start beating the crap out of loved ones.
- Pinkertinkle, on 07/05/2009, -0/+5His whole wheelchair bound thing was probably a scam to get benefits and easy parking.
- michelsonmorley, on 07/05/2009, -0/+4That bites..
- Mordanthanus, on 07/05/2009, -0/+4Well, the article doesn't give any info other than it was an outstanding warrant for a domestic abuse issue. Did he assault someone while he was in a wheelchair? Or was it before that? If before (like 21 years), couldn't the police have found him before now? I mean, he has to have been seeing a doctor. It's not hard to find someone when they aren't hiding. I know, jumping into the news didn't help, but still...
- skylicious, on 07/05/2009, -1/+5He probably used some of his super powers on his wife, just for testing purposes you know?
- Briones07, on 07/05/2009, -0/+3It's funny how the whole reason for this article is the last sentence; with no explanation.
- Presbyterian, on 07/05/2009, -0/+3.....Or in the case of the British, imperial domination
- Whackly, on 07/05/2009, -0/+3Or the spider bite was real but didn't have anything to do with the "miracle" and he's only walking now because a sharp physical therapist noticed something that shouldn't happen to a paraplegic and decided to test him to see if, perhaps, his nervous system had been repairing itself slowly over the years.
- rhinofinger, on 07/05/2009, -1/+4Comes great responsibility.
- Presbyterian, on 07/05/2009, -0/+3Who doesn't hit their wife....
- gangsterunicorn, on 07/05/2009, -0/+2best.troll.ever.
- arkaycee, on 07/05/2009, -0/+2Peter Parker is *such* a dick.
- EllisSpice, on 07/05/2009, -0/+2If he tries it again, this time she can break his legs to stop him...
- zuiquan, on 07/05/2009, -0/+2Holy ***** that was awesome! I'll dig you just for that.
- satanherself, on 07/05/2009, -0/+2Yeah, we know, this was on the front page months ago.....
- inactive, on 07/05/2009, -0/+2It does sound possible that he was malingering the whole time, as you say muscle wastage after 20 years of genuine immobility would make him weaker than a new-born calf if he tried to stand, months of physiotherapy would be required to enable him to walk just a few steps. Being able to walk after mere days? I don't think so. Maybe he eventually got fed up of the charade, so he used the spider as a convenient excuse to become mobile again.
- SirCharge, on 07/05/2009, -0/+2Borat?
- xngk, on 07/05/2009, -0/+2I'm sad, his wife is no longer safe upstairs.
- Whackly, on 07/05/2009, -0/+2Wow. Go get 'em, tiger.
- cjw10, on 07/05/2009, -0/+1FTA: "Then the spider bite. A Brown Recluse sent him to the hospital, then to rehab for eight months." 5th Paragraph.
- youannoyme, on 07/05/2009, -0/+1blame the digg poster for that. The actual title is:
Paraplegic Man Suffers Spider Bite, Walks Again
Update: David Blancarte Arrested On Outstanding Warrant
The arrest was neither the point nor the motivation for the article. - RiperSnifle, on 07/05/2009, -0/+1Apparently Spider-man beat up someone.
....Venom? - Trcoolguy, on 07/05/2009, -0/+1"Oops! I.. I can't walk anymore! Eh guys?"
- Brian5475E, on 07/05/2009, -3/+4I call ***** on the walking story. 20 years in a wheelchair, then 5 days after being bitten he was walking around. I'm sorry but your muscles would not be able to support you after not using them for 20 years. It would take take to recondition your muscles to be able to support you.
- SoCalCove, on 07/05/2009, -0/+1Well at least the research folks can look into this and maybe it might help others with the spider venom if they uncover anything.
Sad though, I want to be happy for him but the abuse thing is a big deal. You dont have a warrant for abuse for just a bad word or such, he is probably did something pretty bad (without reading too far into the article) - kwansolo, on 07/05/2009, -0/+1POW
- skunkman62, on 07/05/2009, -0/+1i think he didnt know he had spider super powers and accidentally hurt his wife
- specialbuddy1, on 07/05/2009, -0/+1So there is a chance of becoming a super hero from a spider bite.
- killerhammy, on 07/05/2009, -0/+1wait....why was he arrested?
- inactive, on 07/05/2009, -0/+1buried for "dugg down".
- zeth006, on 07/05/2009, -0/+1This article was posted on Digg a few months back. Buried.
- Prodigy1990, on 07/05/2009, -0/+1dugg down for digging down.
- inactive, on 07/05/2009, -0/+1Walk the line now.
- Gusbob, on 07/05/2009, -0/+1You sound like House
- RiperSnifle, on 07/05/2009, -0/+1Booya brother. You're absolutely right.
@Gusbob: I would take that as a compliment. - RiperSnifle, on 07/05/2009, -0/+1Notice how the fact that he was arrested wasn't mentioned until the LAST SENTENCE of the article.
- mcmurch, on 07/05/2009, -0/+1Wow, that final paragraph kinda puts a damper on things. Doesn't it?
