- 7m7uf, on 02/03/2009, -25/+241... and?
50+% of marriages end in divorce - a statistic that's often quoted. Why would a lesbian/Gay couple be no different? - Falldog, on 02/04/2009, -11/+179What a predicament. How will the lawyers function when there's no guy to screw over?
- atomicpoet, on 02/03/2009, -5/+141Be careful of what you wish for -- you might just get it!
- casuallyevil, on 02/05/2009, -8/+109Not surprising... any marriage with twice the nagging is doomed.
- jcharak58, on 02/04/2009, -9/+104except that is a skewed fact. People who get divorced tend to get divorced multiple times
- jdogg67, on 02/03/2009, -40/+118oh the irony
- Ninh, on 02/04/2009, -8/+82Just adds to the fact that homosexual couples are not any different from heterosexual ones.
- inactive, on 02/03/2009, -26/+100I agree with 7m7uf above. What's the big deal about this? Divorce has, especially in the U.S., become practically a natural part of marriage anyway. 8,100 same-sex couples have been married so far, and according to this article 7 are filing for divorce. That makes the current same-sex divorce rate less than 0.1%, which means that heterosexual couples have a divorce rate 500 times higher than their same-sex counterparts.
I suppose I can see the irony of a couple that ardently fought for gay marriage rights getting divorced, but at the same time, so what? The right to marry includes the right to get divorced. We shouldn't be making a big deal out of this. - Bartboy919, on 02/05/2009, -9/+70We already banned gay marriage in California, we should now ban divorce, because, you know, the bible says its bad.
- fred02472, on 02/05/2009, -4/+43Wow, this really devalues the true meaning of divorce.
- inactive, on 02/05/2009, -24/+62It's not ironic in the least. Gay people have every right to get married and just as much right to get divorced. Happens half the time in any marriage.
I think ANYONE getting married is retarded, but that doesn't mean I would deny anyone the right to do so. Stupid though it may be. - Amerijapoxicano, on 02/05/2009, -1/+32Congrats to the homosexuals. They, too, can now be just as miserable as the rest of the country.
- choopie911, on 02/05/2009, -1/+28I read that as mass lesbian couple... hmm
- Yambag, on 02/05/2009, -0/+27That's cuz when they got married they held their hands up and yelled "FIRST!! LOL"
- LiquidSpark, on 02/04/2009, -4/+27Exactly.
- twistedwriter, on 02/05/2009, -11/+33Actually I can confirm this to be ironic. My english major has to be good for *something*, afterall. What's really great though is the fact that your being wrong about something not being ironic is, in itself, ironic.
- tehsuck1, on 02/05/2009, -0/+19The headline is worded so confusingly I thought it meant that they fought for gay right to divorce. I was thinking... they can't divorce now either?
- inactive, on 02/05/2009, -5/+23could you explain how its not ironic? Do you know what irony is? Noone is saying that this means they shouldn't be allowed to marry, but even if they were, it would have nothing to do with whether or not this is ironic. It is, period.
Like, if someone was being denied the right to an education, and they fought for it, but then they dropped out of school... that's ironic. Doesn't mean they didn't deserve the right to learn, its just ironic. - representDLV, on 02/05/2009, -2/+18And the strap on?
- PrintScrn12, on 02/05/2009, -1/+17Actually dog and monkey social relationships differ greatly from humans. In fact within the same groupings relationships can differ immensely. For example the mating and social structure of bonobos are extremely different orangutans.
Hence heterosexual and homosexual relationships, between the partners and with society at large, do not differ as significantly as between species.
I hope this has been educational for you. - djvchris, on 02/05/2009, -1/+17And the most logically-flawed argument against an argument award goes to...RAPNGRANNY.
- cards, on 02/05/2009, -0/+16Divorce rate is a completely misunderstood statistic. Divorce rate = # of divorces in a year / # of marriages in a year. The problem is, the pool of people eligible for divorce (married people) may have gotten married anywhere between yesterday and 75 years ago, whereas the people getting married are only counted if they're getting married the year you're taking the statistic.
...and if that doesn't convince you, just follow your instincts. Think about all the people you know who are or have been married. Would you estimate 50% of them have been divorced? No? That's because it's a ***** statistic. - inactive, on 02/05/2009, -5/+21The ironing is delicious.
- ScottyAnimal, on 02/05/2009, -8/+23How is it a skewed fact? 50% of all marriages end in divorce. It doesn't matter if it is the same person getting another divorce. Now if you want you could look up how many first time marriages end in divorce and look up how many second, third, fourth, marriages end in divorce and compare the stats.
- Remelox, on 02/05/2009, -0/+154th time ends in death.
- inactive, on 02/05/2009, -3/+17I heard they got a divorce lickedy-split...
- slvrbullet87, on 02/05/2009, -2/+15Straight couples dont have to fight for years in the legal system to get married.
- inactive, on 02/05/2009, -0/+12So apparently 4th time's the charm, not 3rd.
- agentinfinite, on 02/04/2009, -2/+14Who gets the house?
- markgl, on 02/05/2009, -5/+17I guess till death do you part doesn't really matter to anyone anymore.
- Horonto, on 02/05/2009, -5/+17I think gay people should be just as unhappy and stupid as straight people.
- spritom, on 02/05/2009, -0/+12Depends on the stat. In AZ, the stats are broken down:
1st marriage - 50% end in divorce
2nd marriage - 60%
3rd marriage - 75%
4th marriage - 25% - mikey2dope, on 02/05/2009, -4/+15I've spoken in the favor of gays marrying, and this statement is in no way against it, BUT - why does it seem like this couple is more about being the the first to do it, more than doing it because they want to? Meh.
- BenLilly, on 02/05/2009, -0/+11Cause Knowledge is Power!
- davidg11, on 02/05/2009, -2/+13No you don't.
- XandraX, on 02/05/2009, -0/+11You obviously have not opened a bible then.
- jcannonb, on 02/05/2009, -1/+12Time to change the carpet :)
- darwinwins, on 02/05/2009, -6/+16marriage. ruining relationships since the adam and eve.
- representDLV, on 02/05/2009, -0/+10It does talk about divorce in the Bible
- djvchris, on 02/05/2009, -0/+10Wow. Politically Incorrect Score x 2 (women AND lesbians) ---- Double Bonus!
Hilarious nonetheless. - redled, on 02/05/2009, -2/+12Divorce is a sacred institution meant for a MAN AND A WOMAN. First they made my marriage meaningless, now this!
- stillmilking, on 02/05/2009, -0/+9i hate you
- ccarrlaw, on 02/05/2009, -0/+9Oh god ... I needed that! LOL!
- Velvolver, on 02/05/2009, -4/+13Irony, they had a good thing.
Enjoy losing half your ***** - rolf, on 02/05/2009, -1/+10Sometimes a couple is united through an outside struggle more than anything - just like a girlfriend may like you more since her parents hate you. Since they won the good fight, perhaps that was the death of the relationship as well. I'm just speculatin' though.
- ladygator, on 02/05/2009, -1/+10What a cunning linguist you are. ;)
- ZeitHeld, on 02/05/2009, -7/+15See? They're just like us. They fall in love. They fall out of love. They have just as much right to be wrong as the rest of us. Give them the chance, let them marry.
- hmoore9, on 02/05/2009, -2/+10Well *****.
- bigsteve, on 02/05/2009, -1/+9I think they're still lesbians. They just broke up, like half of hetero marriages.
- Gizza, on 02/05/2009, -0/+8"I say no to gay marriage. It'll end up leading to gay divorce, and that'll be bitchy." - Jimmy Carr
